This video is chock-full of spoilers, so if you're interested in playing the game AT ALL, then I highly recommend you don't want watch this until you're done.
Fun story: I named my character "Bilby" because I knew Tim Rogers translated this game, only to run into the guard at the castle who he'd already named "Bilby." It was absolutely surreal.
This channel is like a goddamn treasure trove man. I grew up playing games like Rosy Rupeeland on my ds, and later discovering all these other awesome Japanese games hidden away behind fantranslations etc, that perfectly capture the tone and vibe of the games from my childhood is a great experience. I would have never found out about games like Koudelka or Echo Night were it not for your channel. It's great.
Now that moon is out, the only ps1 games i'm waiting for a translation are: 1 - yuuyami doori tankentai 2 - racing lagoon 3 - Weltorv Estleia And maybe ufo - a day in the life, also by love de lic.
I remember my brother had Eartbound on the SNES when were kids. He had got it for xmas or something played it once, decided it sucked and threw it in a box somewhere. I found it later gave it a try and was instantly in love. I guess it really wasnt for everyone though...
For years, I've wanted to make a video-art installation in some posh gallery that is nothing but every power-scream and/or gawking-at-power-level face from every animated Dragonball ever just super-cut together into one days-long portal into the void.
COOL, not gonna watch this until i actually get to play, but i have the Japanese physical special edition ordered for Switch, so neat to get such a niche cult game localized after so many years!
I'm excited that it was localized I've been wanting to play it since you talked about. It doesn't look like it disappoints. I happy you got to play it! Also, also, I love Hylics games so much. The world soundtrack and characters are so strange but engaging. I love just looking and listening to the game.
God i'd love to see Lack of Love, U.F.O, Giftpia all receive localizations but I'd also like to see Chulip ported to switch and I'd REALLY like to see Contact ported. I'd also love a translation for Endonesia because it looks so interesting.
Definitely gonna need to check out that guide, I played a few hours and was really digging the whole feel the game gave me but could see it hitting a few frustrating moments. About my only complaint is too many interesting titles coming out lately without the time to play them, an inverse of childhood when time was plentiful yet funds for new games wasn't really a thing.
im so glad i ran into this channel you are like a friend who just wants to show some cool stuff he found on a random evening also i really like your soft voice it helps me calm my adhd fueled brain down
A bit of a stretch, but I didn't use a guide at the risk of spoiling myself. Instead, I joined the official Onion Games Discord server, and checked out their "Moon Hints/Spoilers" channel. I kinda wanted to treat this game the way I imagine that people played it back in 1997: players telling each other what they found on certain days or in certain areas. Plus it was nice to get vague enough hints from people who are completely familiar with the game.
Finally bought it. With Kimura now doing small Indi games playable on PC, we got the best possible ending to the Love-de-Lic story. Black Bird and Million Onion Hotel both hit hard.
The songs that you used during the explanation of the music and dialogue I realized was a cropped and compat and edited version of Ennio Morricone "The Good the Bad and the Ugly Theme" ITs freaking amazing as I ws able to recognize parts of it and its so cool to seeing this odd style of music delivered for its wacky form! Its incredibly interesting and I enjoy all you have done!
Weird, I literally just had an online conversation not 24 hours ago where I referred to an oddball western indie JRPG (Space Funeral) as an Earthbound-like, before conceding that it was a potentially ignorantly applied label due to my lack of knowledge regarding other entries in the genre from the era. What's more, Hylics, Undertale, Lisa, and Off! is the exact set of games I had in mind when using the label, and while it's not exactly 'Earthbounders' the sentiment is identical. The timing and specificity with which the introduction of this video addresses that precise bit of ridiculously niche subject matter is uncanny.
I've been meaning to check out this game for a hot minute, but after watching this video I know I NEED to check out Moon. Hits all the right stuff that I like in a game. Good showcase!
dude your channel might be my favorite in all of youtube, just wanted to thank you for the introduction to so many cool games (i even managed to acquire an unholy amount of tolerance for jank controls and have to constantly remind myself that i did), good stuff
Damn, I loved Chibi-Robo when I was little, I played through it so many times, hope it gets a port to Switch some day, along with the Japan-only DS title (not park patrol, this one was actually a direct sequel, where you lived with grown-up Jenny and and her son).
i really love your chanel, you are so passionate about these games ill never play that you make me be interested in them and thats truly amazing btw sorry for my broken english
Regarding to the guard, if you ask someone they tell you that he's up to something when his coworker leaves to drink at night, and someone else will tell you that he drinks always on two particular days. The part that I didn't got was the one you got correctly, that to trigger the event you need to stay up in the balcony. I completely agree that it's a guide game, I managed to get like 20 monsters, finish some quests and get to most areas, but I finally gave up and followed a guide when I got stuck. It really demands too much for it to be enjoyable completely blind.
Great game, great vid. I recommend playing as much of Moon as you can without a guide (the booklet is still essential though) since it's so uniquely fun to find things out here.
For some reason this game isn’t available in the uk even though all the websites claim it was released “worldwide” in august of 2020. Sucks coz i really want to play this!
It's nice to see someone talk about Tomba and Okage. Also I think your the first person I've seen talk about Chulip. I bought my copy of it at Gamestop years ago because it looked weird. I see Dandy Dungeon is also one of the games on the different branch off companies made, I got that on the Switch a few weeks ago.
Whats the name of the game at 01:19 , the one with the moon face being picked up the the tips? Couldn't quite make out what Thor said, Highlike? Google returned nothing.
The soundtrack for this game is pretty GOOD. Ranges for the usual whimsical, to genuinely touching. To think such amount of creativity came in 1997 still boggles my mind. Tingle's Rosy Rupeeland was a pretty good game.
A lot of the people who worked on Moon at Love-de-Lic went on to work at Vanpool, and make both Rosy Rupeeland and Balloon Trip of Love.
I love Rosy Rupeeland it's a really unique game
Man your channel is a cult classic, I don't even play videogames anymore but they're such neat videos and ideas... Great vid as usual

Well thankfully Smash gave Earthbound the exposure it deserved, so it didn't suffer fade into obscurity like many other weird jrpgs.
You should definitely give both Hylics a go some time. They're wonderful.
his walking sounds like mr krabs lol
That's actually the sound the fish ghosts were making but it's kinda funny that you made that connection lol
As Thor uploads another video, the noose hides away in the corner. I wont be needing it today.
Nobody likes a quitter. Commit to something for once in your life
Uh, maybe don't commit to the noose though
Someday
But not today
When I first saw this game, I knew this would totally be on the ThorHighHeels list of superjams
He made a video talking about how he wanted this game to be translated really really bad.
Wow, new Thor video AND Tim Rodgers video at the same time!?
Tim even references moon in it!! :O
Took me some time to discover the 3:38 song. For those interested like me it’s “Village Dali - Final Fantasy “
final fantasy ix specifically
For years, I've wanted to make a video-art installation in some posh gallery that is nothing but every power-scream and/or gawking-at-power-level face from every animated Dragonball ever just super-cut together into one days-long portal into the void.

I hit credits on this just last night. Amazing game, absolutely loved it.
The okage name drop got me perked up. One of my all time favorite.
Yessss Okage is one of my favourite PS2 games.
Okage Shadow King has one of the best Arcs for a main character, also best Heroine.
I want to play this just because Tim Rogers translated it. Tim is the fuckin man.

Does the game have a hard time limit or is just that it has a time cycle you have to work around?
Just a time cycle
Day / night cycle
Could you maybe do a video on Super Mario RPG viewed through the lens of the fact that the Love-de-Lic people worked on it, while still at Square?
God damn you’re a criminally underrated UA-camr man
Does Onion have any plans to port this to PC, PS and Xbox?
What’s the game he mentions between Lisa and undertale?? It looks crazy??

Its hylics!
Wanna know too
Cool thank you!
Oh damn, they made Contact and Rule of Rose???? I unknowingly played a buncha their weird games.
