When I was about 12, I was in class bored and decided I was going to style all of my classmates hairs with my brush; I did about 7 girls’ hair. BIG MISTAKE.
My scalp was very infected, it was awful. Sadly I come from a 3rd world country that has nothing, but luckily my mom came up with the idea of dying my hair, surprisingly after only one time, it killed them all (I’m even getting itchy telling this story) I feel for this little girl; thankfully there is people here like you that are able to help her. After I dyed my hair, it never grew back as healthy as it used to be.

Mix one part dish soap with one part vinegar then shampoo the hair every day for 10 days to 2 weeks. It kills adult lice on contact but not the eggs thus the reason for daily washes until you stop the egg cycle.
To kill off any in carpet mix Simple Green 50/50 with vinegar. Wash and change bedding daily.
    No hats, no hoodies.
I did this when everything else we tried had failed.
My son hated it but after 10 days they were finally done.
It was hard work but so worth it.

Yesus...my dad combed out my hair...and I have NEVER forgotten it. It was the worst pain to my tender scalp ever. I have curly Filipina/Irish curls from mixed ancestry. I was sat down with a danged near dry head...my mid-back length curls WHEN DRY was the most painful experience. My dad kept saying things like, "How did this section, knot into THIS uncombed section after I just combed it?!?" Also, it called for combing from the scalp down. It took 4 hours while I sat on newspaper in the middle of the dining table and just silently bawled, trying my best to hide it from my poor daddy. It was my wild hair's fault that my head hurt...my poor dad, he looked awful after hours of silent weeping. He wasn't aware of just HOW tender my scalp was. He thought my mom and sister and grandma were all teasing about my head...nope. I remember a CLUMP of dry hair ripping out.

I've never had lice thankfully but I've been checked so many times during school years because I have eczema and my parents never really bothered to do much beyond get a cream that sooths a break out, so there were no prevention measures, and shampoo and conditioner of certain types were a problem but if it was on sale "deal with it" they had four kids and weren't gonna extra stuff for just one kid. So my scalp often itched and you know that always set off the occasional lice check from teachers. My brothers even got lice, but I didn't, it was so strange. I'm thankful though, on top of extra itching I don't think I could have mentally handled the bugs.

bro.. this reminds me of a time where i found out i had lice, in the middle of math class.
I'll give a shorter version of the story for the people who don't want to read a long, detailed one. Here it is:
I was in 4th grade, math class when I scratched my hair - looked at my hands, and found a bug on it. Freaked out, screamed like hell, ran to the bathroom and washed my hands. After getting back home i told my mom, we quickly rushed to the pharmacy and bought a special lice shampoo. Truly a scary experience.
Here's the longer, detailed version of the story:
I, was always really afraid of really any type of bug. I would even scream and freak out if I saw an ant near me. Still am, and still do yo this day. Except now, I die silently on the inside instead of screaming on the outside. Skipping forward to 4th grade, elementary school, math class. I was feeling very itchy and couldnt stop scratching my head - but at that time I knew NOTHING of lice. I didn't know there was a type of bug that goes into your hair like that. So, I thought it was probably because I didn't take a shower in a while. I scratched my head, feeling comforted after that scratch. Until I looked at my hands, and saw LICE on my hands. As you would guess, I ABSOLUTELY FREAKED OUT. I literally kicked my chair back, screamed, told the teacher "AASGDHHDFB GET IT AWAY FROM ME!!!". My poor math teacher was trying to figure out why the hell I was screaming. I OPENED the door and ran all the way to the bathroom WHICH BY THE WAY was nowhere near my class. I then washed my hands as good as i could and I remember checking myself everywhere to make sure there wasnt any other bug on me - not knowing that the 'bug' (aka lice) came from my HAIR. after I got back home, I told my mom everything, describing the lice as a 'bug'. And when she told me to repeat the story, I said again, "I scratched my head, then I found a bug on my finger." She then quickly came over to me and checked my hair, and there it was. Lice. We quickly drove to our local pharmacy to buy lice shampoo, lice formula, and a special comb (just like the one they used in the video). I remember I wouldn't even want to TOUCH my hair. The thought of small tiny creatures crawling my hair was enough to make me freak out.
And also, to all of those people wondering "oh wow, this person really has some extra time to write entirely 2 versions of the story" it's 3 am in the morning, got nothing to do. thats why. lol. enjoy the rest of ur day ok bye now

This gurl I went to middle school with had 3 inch long real hair corn rowed with 3 foot braided weave. Man, her friends called me over freaking out that she had baby spiders in her hair, she was trying to hit them out of her hair, bugs were falling everywhere. I was like, "Shit, those aren't spiders, that's lice." They all got offended and started yelling at me that "blk people can't get lice!!!". The teacher went to check it out (she didn't believe me) 5 second later she was yelling, you need to go home now, you have lice. The classroom had to be cleaned. She ended up getting rid of the braids and just staying natural. But because she had knocked lice all over the place, other kids got lice later. Everyone had to get their hair checked repeatedly. Our school was over 70% blk, everyone on that side of the room that got lice from her were blk girls with long hair extensions.
So the type of hair doesn't matter. The length of it does. If you have long hair, your hair touches chairs and desks. The lice climb up it. Because lice don't care what hair they get in, that is why schools do not allow any children to share headphones anymore. LoL

My mom at the time had so much on her plate but wish she didnt have to make us go through that. It's sad that any kid is teased or stigmatized for something so common. Lice like a clean head, so it's not because of a lack of hygiene. In fact the only way we finally rid my daughter's of it was by using tons of hair gel and hairspray and by not washing their hair as often. My oldest had lice 12 times with long golden locks that went past her butt. I refused to cut her hair and spent countless hours with her laying on my lap picking nits. My grandma used to say, "there is no shame in getting lice, just a shame to keep them." Anyone can get them (Kings and Queens were lousy.

I had them so often as teen around 14 that I still have an anxious tic where I run my fingers in a massaging motion through my hair without even thinking about it. I had them 4 times back to back. We tried everything to get rid of them. I even got them once as an adult and had tried everything to get them to go. We had to put minced garlic in my hair and they finally left me alone but my hair smelt like garlic for a month no matter how much I washed it. Even after apple cider vinegar rinses. Lice can be traumatizing for some people. Sweet little baby. I hope she never has to deal with them again.

@Spookyghostkitten1031 for future reference, try a parsley mask and cover your hair and scalp with it for like 30 min to an hr and wash it out with a clarifying shampoo (preferably mint scented or put peppermint essential oil drops in it). It may cancel out the Sulphur in the garlic (the "volatiles") because consuming parsley cures the garlic breath smell after eating a ton of garlic. And peppermint also effects it as well.

Shampoo hair and dowse the head with pure tea tree oil, wrap in a towel and let it sit for 30 mins. This catches the blitters and poisons them because pure tea tree stinks and unholy amount.

My mom sat on the floor and went over my hair for hours as I cried. We cleaned the house like crazy, did all the shampoos and treatments and nothing was working! I honestly thought I was gonna have to shave my head as a sobbed about it daily. Nobody else in the family got it and we to this day don't know where I got it from. PARENTS-- you HAVE TO de-louse your kids hair MANUALLY, with nit combs and plenty of time & patience, in conjunction with topical lice treatments. You cannot just slap on some treatment shampoo & be done with it. Nit comb thru hair several times a week. You can smother the hair with just regular conditioner to do this process as you probably don't want to use the harsh chemicals in lice treatments on a daily basis (even drenching the hair with plain cooking oil works a treat, it's cheap and safe on skin. the oil practically drowns the lice and makes lice & eggs slide out easily without causing irritation from chemicals). And even after no signs of lice you still need to check hair regularly, even daily whenever doing your kids hair, you can quickly check the hotspots that lice first lay eggs which are the hair right around the ears, the nape/ back of the neck, and the hairline around the forehead. It only takes 1 egg to hatch 1 louse that will lay dozens of eggs a day and the whole dang cycle repeats.

I suffered with lice as a kid from a school that was neglecting the sanitary policies and not sending infected kids home to get properly treated, and that caused a full on outbreak throughout the whole school- and when I got lice, My father would sit down for hours- combing my hair everyday, getting every nit and egg he could see and he would usually get it all for me me after a few days of constant treatment, while also keeping all my bedding and clothing bagged up on the porch- (depending on how bad it was.) but the school was so infested I ended up catching it 8 or 9 whole times in 1 year and that’s when my parents decided to notify the school board- nothing really happened- so then my parents decided to actually go on a local radio station to talk about the schools neglect regarding the whole situation and that’s when the school FINALLY listened and changed their ways, but so many kids I knew were suffering just as bad as I was. It was tragic.
Lice is absolutely horrible for any child to go through😢

It really is a nightmare. Just like some of the people that have posted, you can get it from anyone, anywhere, at any time. The hard work isn't so much in combing the lice out of the hair, (although that is quite a job in itself for both the parent and the child), it's the many, many, many, many hours, days, and weeks of continued washing of all of the beds, linens, towels, couch cushions, stuffed animals, car seats, bike helmets, and the list goes on. It's something that has to be done daily and until the lice are gone, (usually for some time after you see the last bug you have to continue with the cleaning process because there could be eggs that haven't asked yet), it is not a job for the weak that is for sure! 💪😭🥺😵‍💫😫😱😢🤦🏼‍♀️🪳

I remember when i got lice for the first time i was in 2nd grade and i was minding my business eating lunch but my lunch lady contacted my mom bc she noticed after a week how i would consistently scratch my head.
My mom picked me up immediately and had no idea what to do. She got me wendys and we went home. She was more terrified then me and i was reLly scared. She called my grandma not knowing what to do. After we went and bought the special spray thing and comb.
I sat for hours in the tub while my mom was taking the eggs and lice out of my hair it itched so bad and was so uncomfortable.I had to go to sleep with a hair cap on so it would get my bed dirty and it would get suffocated.
That just mad it itch even more and made my head hot. Anytime i think of it i get really itchy and it freaks me out.
Eventually we went to my grandmas house and she tried to help.
Then the second time i got it, it was bc my sister had it. I was traumatized from the first time around and just thinking i had to go through that again.... that was a nightmare.
She blamed it on me bc she was so mad that she had it and i was upset thinking it was me even tho it wasnt. Most of the girls at the sleepover had it too and were checked for it anyways. There were like 10 girls minimum including me and my sister. Plus my two brothers, dad and mom. Which makes 14 ppl in total.
That was the last time we had a sleepover that big.
I hope nobody has to go throw lice its such a horrible experience.
Plus after that for about a month i had nightmares about roaches, lice, bedbugs, and bugs in my bed and would wake up “seeing them” but once i blinked it was gone its cus it looked like my bed sheet design in the dark.
Honestly i would be surprised if u read it all and came this far.
Anyways thank u for ur time 🙏🏼☺️
    Have a great day/evening/afternoon/night ❤️

When I was a kid, I used to get lice all the time. My foster mom would use metal combs (not sure about the word, English isn’t my first language) as well as whatever product she used on me that time, and holy hell, it was painful. For the better part of my childhood my scalp was nothing but healing wounds (again, not sure of the correct word to use here) and I was combed every single freaking day for weeks. Every time we’d finally gotten rid of them, I would have a week without lice and then back to business. It was painful and I would cry, a lot.

I had lice 2 times in my entire year and in middle school after I had a sleepover by a friend ( both times I catched lice and never slept there again). Get a special lice comb (there are small ones made out of plastic, you won’t ever feel them!) and instead of shampoo you use a 1:1 mixture with vinegar and warm water. Massage your scalp and gently wash it, after your shower you use your lice comb over a towel or sheet of paper. The vinegar kills the eggs these bugs hate anything sour and can’t move, that’s why you can easily comb them out + it kills the eggs more efficiently and the eggs don’t glue as much to the hair
