      I do that with dishwashing. Nice hot water and detergent, my favorite cloth (The Crown Choice scrubber, "fast drying, no odor"), scrub scrub scrub, and in the end the dishes are nicely arranged in the drainer.

    The biggest gift: my boyfriend falling in love minimalism.
    I have buy him a book about minimalism for Christmas.
    He was a total master in not throwing anything. Like favourite pair of jeans from highschool or old not working videogames from 90ties.
    In my language we have a phrase for keeping everything because of what if...
    And it is "to hamster" (škrečkovať). Just imagine a hamster with full cheeks :-)
    We are not living in our dreamed space yet, but at least we have the same perspective now. True miracle.

    • @SimpleHappyZen
      @SimpleHappyZen  4 роки тому +7

      Thanks for sharing, loved your comment! In Dutch we also use 'to hamster' as a verb :D The meaning is very similar only in our language it's more about hoarding groceries and stuff.

    Concerning #2: I don't exactly spend less money, I spend it very different now. While I save a lot of money by not eating out that often and not going shopping, I tend to buy more expensive stuff. My last purchase was a nice espresso machine and a grinder. I now make coffee drinks for the whole family . While it was quite expensive, it is something I highly enjoy on a daily basis, and something I continually practice. Therefore it does bring joy into my life and felt right. I did take my time with that decision though.

    • @SimpleHappyZen
      @SimpleHappyZen  4 роки тому +10

      Yes that's a very interesting point! It's like what I said about buying better stuff. Quality over quantity, and taking our time to decide on which item would be perfect for us and fit our needs. :)

    In the last 12 months, I have decluttered 62 (13 gallon) trash bags of "stuff" and 7 pieces of furniture. I feel like I can breathe in my home now. I find myself much more grateful for what I have, and I no longer buy stuff just to have something new, I spend way less money now, as I am more intentional about my shopping. It feels so good to lose my attachment to things. I'm so grateful for your channel, and feel so much more free and content. Thank you.

    Ive been simplifying my life for about3 yrs now but this last year since I moved it has become more noticeable. I developed a system for how I run my new house. Its effortless now. Theres NO CLUTTER! 😩😭😍 I never thought I would utter those words. Everything runs so smooth as is easy to clean, its truly so relaxing and wonderful. I use to have so much stuff & so much clutter. But not anymore, over time I got rid of things that had been in the garage, that I truly did not need. Best decisions ever.

    I enjoy my home so much more now. Less clutter means the things that I've chosen to keep are very special to me, and I notice them more because they stand out instead of becoming just one more thing. It's actually a pleasure to open a cabinet or closet and see only things that I love and use.

    It feels so refreshing when you touch upon the idea of the minimalist being able to not compare themselves to other people, which I constantly did and grabbed what other people had and I eventually didn't! So true and so few people touch it on. And in fact it's such a simple truth but I have never though it over before! Thank you so much for that!

    Vera, about beauty products, I never use them as well. When I was younger, I used to because of my skin colour, but later I realised this complex needs to go. There was another reason. My skin did not accept them. I am happy about the way I am. Those who ridiculed, those days I used to feel bad, but later I realised that it is their problem, not mine. As long as the heart is pure, one need not feel bad. 🙂

    Words of WISDOM, once again. I love this, Vera. I have began a fun summer, "declutter-one-item-a-day" challenge, with my mom and sister to introduce them to a "less is more" minimalist concept while still, keeping it lighthearted and fun.
    And I just wanted to also share that...I know it is not about how we look, but I hope this is okay to say to you, and is taken the way it is intended, as a compliment. I think that your skin is just SO beautuful. It seems that it is human nature to notice what people look like and ironically, I noticed right away how pretty your flawlessly fair skin was. It is sad that people can comment on our appearance in a negative way. I must work the other way, to not be envious! of other's appearances and to be appreciative of my own. Thank you for this humble reminder today😊
    My skin is fair too, but not the kind of creamy white shade that refuses to tan or burn like yours. I burn so easily and then, the burn turns into a light tan regardless of how much sunblock that I use. While I always wish that my skin would just stay even and fair, I will take your advice and work to be content with how I was created. 😍
    Your advice really does help me. Your confidence and ability to share it is refreshing and inspiring!
    Happy Saturday😊🌷🐦☀️

    hi Vera, love ur video. minimalism turned back in my life about 5 years ago with his friend budgetting. And we did alot of changes. we swich our house closer to the work and we choose a smaller one, nothing dramatic just around of 16 sq meters less. we did an wise renovation and this let us spend 600 euros less for heating per year, we don't need cooling like an air conditioner. we finally get a new car wich was a dream for me for too long. and i buy most local products, and the quality is much better then the grocery shop. i leave near Parma, Italy.

    You helped start my minimalism journey! I had already realized how my messy, cluttered house was ruining my ability to relax at home-to the point of putting stuff off and that began to trickle into my job, etc. I had been listening to motivational stuff on youtube & it helped me a lot & one day I thought...lets listen to stuff on minimalism & you were one of the first to pop up. Then I began watching Erica Lucas work on her house & Living with Cambriea power through hoarder rooms & Alexandra Gater decorate along with-my grandaddy stopped by last Christmas and I was embarrassed to ask him to come in-I said I wouldn´t live like this anymore. I made a calendar with a breakdown on what to work on and I play you and the other ladies in the background. Thought I was already subscribed to you but I was not! I like Mark Bittman's cookbooks, he says, "Here's a sauteeing/roating/salad technique and you can make hundreds of different meals just putting different ingredients in", and that's what I do. I hadn't thought of it as minimalist, but it is. I also have a half-dozen recipes I make regularly (mostly Thai/Korean, which are new to me).
    Your point that minimalism makes you appreciate small things is right on. A trip to the supermarket can be a fun outing if you think of it that way. And if you walk to the store, it's exercise too. I only buy soda a couple times a year, so when I do it's a gourmet soda. I don't have a car and don't travel much anymore, so my main expenses are just food and necessities. Since I don't buy other things, I can spend more on high-quality food and still be ahead.
    Another thing is just to stop and notice what you're eating or looking at: what are the details? What do you see every day but have never noticed until now? What interesting things are in your neighborhood?

    I'm still in the process of embracing minimalism. I've already started decluttering but I still find myself browsing online for new stuff. Such a pain to stop myself from buying again huhu. Thank you for keeping me on track! I'm currently binging on your videos.. :)

    • @SimpleHappyZen
      @SimpleHappyZen  4 роки тому +2

      Thanks for sharing and watching my videos! :) Perhaps it could be an idea to think about where the desire to browse online comes from. For example, I sometimes find myself doing it when I feel bored, or if there's another issue that makes me feel a bit restless. Taking some time to reflect often helps me to find the root cause and that makes the desire to browse leave by itself :)

    My character just changed by 180°. I am totally organized and very relaxed now. Before I discovered minimalism, I was always stressed out and very very close to a burnout. I absolutely love the choice of change that I made although my parents hate the idea of minimalism(still live with them). But I don't care anymore....👍🏻❤I also turned veggie because of minimalism😁🤗

    Minimalism = Clutter free (space/mind/body) = Freedom
    I am in the process of minimalist journey. My home is a minimalist home 85% of my space is free from clutter. (Myself, and my husband and 3 kids).
    I love it. I watch you and other minimalist UA-camrs. And it has helped me a ton. Thank you so much! Too much stuff is not good for any of us. That just my opinion.

    i actually decluttered my whole entire room, and realized how much things i hav been keeping and buying things constantly. i ended up donating three trash bags full of stuff and now i finally feel so content, and loose that i got rid of so many un needed things, that i didn’t even need in the first place. minimalism has definitely changed my life for the better.

    Starting Out with minimalism in my bedroom was a process. I threw away a lot of things that were not being used, or just took space. (Clothing, old papers, etc.) after doing so I feel more relaxed in my bedroom , ironically, and find myself spending time with family more as opposed to sleeping in. Doing this has also helped me in becoming more active with my workouts. Having this sense of stability has also helped me realize that foods like fast foods and complex meals, don’t appear as appetizing to me as they used to.

    Since I am a minimalist is have less stress and less choices to make (for example with less clothes it is easier to choose). I love it that there are less choices.
    Another big thing I am learning now is single tasking. I have always a lot of ideas and projects I want to do. Now I write them down on post-it’s on my ‘kanban board’. I can work on one project at the time. All the other post-it’s are waiting till I finish that one project. Than I choose another post-it/project to work on. It give so much peace of mind to do one thing at a time.

    Since starting my minimalist journey, I always tend to make a list or a pile of things and let the item sit there for a little while while I think about if I want to get rid of it or not because I often find myself regretting impulse decisions.This has saved me so much money and time spent on extra decluttering in the future.

    Another thing- being alone most of the time, whenever I get ruffled I make sure I don’t take my frustrations out on others. If someone were right there, there’s a greater chance I would. Instead I have the solitude and time to work on MYSELF and ask, "do these thoughts serve me?" Great topic. Got the wheels turning.
