I’ve had 8 to 10 contracts over the years (I only travel 6 months out of the year). I’ve always had a different company for each contract except for one company where I have done two contracts with them. It wasn’t because the companies were bad or anything, I just go with whatever company that can get me to where I want to go for how much I want to get. As my 25 year career as a paramedic comes to a close soon I’m thinking about traveling as well. I’m also a nurse that works ER at my local hospital. I’ve actually done a travel nurse gig. Long story on that one, anyway. I’ve talked to several travelers and they all told me the same thing.... work with at least three different agencies and take the best deal at the place you wanna go to. And make sure each company knows your working other agencies because that may get you more money and a better deal. Recruiters work on commissions and the more nurses they place the more they make to... another traveler told me that as advice before I started

Hey Hidhawkes, looking back I'm sorry I missed your initial comment about being new. So welcome to NOP! If you've got questions feel free to email me at noordinaryparth@gmail.com and I'll do the best I can to answer them. Also, I can put you in contact with Tasha (my recruiter) if you like to talk to her too. She loves to chat up new people, even if they're still on the fence.

I just subscribed. I have been a nurse for 15 years. I have always wanted to be a travel nurse since I was a new nurse. I hope I can do it one day when my kids are bigger.
The video is very informative and you gave me a perspective of the issues that travel nurses may encounter and how to resolve them. I've recently signed my first local travel nurse contract and have yet to start the job. I was reluctant leaving my permanent, stable job where I have a good reputation. I've made my concern known. The recruiter connected me with the president of the company and gave me two references to contact and get their opinion of how their experience has been like working for the agency. That put me at ease.
I have worked as a home care nurse for 5 years. Almost 90 percent of my clients would have saved themselves a lot of pain and disability by using compression socks. Thanks for the endorsement.
my wife is getting ready for her first travel nurse contract and we want to stay in a rv and maintain our moftage free home for a home base. Your videos help, thank you
This is excellent info brother. We as nurses have to remember these agencies are making money off our backs and our labor and taking a huge cut for simple administrative work (basically pushing paper) so no nurse should EVER feel pressured or allow themselves to be manipulated or bamboozled by these folks!
Thank you for your video. I am planning on traveling after I retire in less than 2 years. I've been making plans and talking to recruiters for a year now.
Thank you for the video and associated links! I recently completed my first travel nursing contract (I accept hospice and med-surg contracts) and am interested in pursuing it full time. I am also interested in purchasing an RV in the next 10-12 months to bring my "home" with me. Needless to say, your videos are very relative. I’d love to hear your tips that you’ve used/seen successful while negotiating. Thank you for taking the time to make this video and educate everyone who is getting involved in Traveling. Great pointers and I'll apply it to my nurses I work with
How about you agencies take a smaller cut whenever we get rate cuts in the middle of a contract and be honest about the bill rate? I find it odd the hospital can unilaterally break a signed contract and then the agencies get mad when nurses discuss their pay rates with one another and develop solidarity 🤔

Hi I’m not a new travel nurse but I did start traveling again after being away for a while. Thank you for your videos they’re very informative I’ve already been hit with one big whammy. On orientation I didn’t get on boarded well and I did not check one box and when the new year changed I didn’t have health insurance and I didn’t know about it. I then broke my wrist. Well the company did not do anything to help me and now I have an $8000 ER bill that I cannot pay. Needless to say I am looking for another recruiter right now I have to finish this contract out. So make sure you get on boarded correctly and if people are too busy to on board you don’t do the paperworkUntil someone sits down with you and helps you. That’s my two cents.
Call up the hospital and work it up as a self-pay. They'll want to verify your income so give them a copy of your w2 that doesn't show your stipends. You'll likely qualify for significant financial aid and a large knockdown of the bill.
Awesome video. My son has been going back and forth about doing the travel “murse”. My biggest concern was like you mentioned getting pushed around like you mentioned. I just talked to him but he was on his way out the door for his shift. He does Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights. Right now his floor has been made the Covid unit.

First video I’ve watched. Looking forward to more BUT I’m working in Ontario, Canada so things are a bit different. Just starting out with an agency and travelling for work. We get paid by hour and with the company I’m with there’s no living expenses for us as we live at the facility for free and I continue to pay rent on my apartment. When the lease ends I may switch to storing my stuff in a locker, depending how this goes. Excited to see more tips for travels.

It truly is worth it. The nursing is kinda meh but the travel is amazing! You have to look at it like a temporary thing that you can do for as long as you want. Also, the money is pretty nice, not gonna lie.

Welcome!!! We are behind in comments as we had such terrible cell service. We are glad you are here though. We have lots of videos about how we make things work as a travel nurse family. Yes, we live in our RV full time. We are on contract number 8 currently. :) Have not done an Airbnb yet but might in the future just to see how it goes and put out some information on it. :) We love Reno the best so far for the location. Phoenix in the winter was so great we did it two winters in a row. Feel free to email us if you have questions and we can try to answer any or direct you to specific videos that might help.: )

I've been away from bedside nursing for several year while I was in another avenue of nursing but I really want to get back to my roots and become a Travel RN as I always wanted to but had to put on hold due to family. Glad I watched this video but I still don't know which way to turn. Would also love to travel with an RV.

Just subscribed! Taking my prerequisites to apply to the nursing program this spring. The plan is to be working full time in 2024 potential as a travel nurse. Thanks for the insight!
Been watching videos on travel nursing. Trying to decide my future. Gotta say, no one really paints travel nursing in a very positive light. Most of it seems to be recruiters and hospitals taking advantage of trusting nurses and fucking them over.
Thank you for the information, my partner is a RN Nurse just starting the Travel Nurse field and She’s doing her research, found you and shared it. I like to be of assistance with her so if you also have tips from your spouse in this journey that will be great. So far, my partner has learned a couple of things that are really useful in your videos. Thank you!
Usually about 4 to 6 weeks before the desired start date. Since we usually take a couple weeks off between that means about 4 weeks before the end of the current contract.
Your opinion on compression socks is not because you’re “old.” Early twenties here, and I love compression socks for long days at school and work. Everyone should know about them!!!
New here. Just took a contract in California, and I already feel like I'm NOT being compensated fairly. For several reasons, but mostly d/t the cost of housing here. It is RIDICULOUSLY over priced.
We have heard that is common in CA. We hope to get out that way someday. Pay can be tricky. And sometimes even after you've had a few contracts under your belt you can STILL feel like you aren't getting paid fairly. That is happening here actually. But you learn and next time you negotiate you have a better idea of what to ask for. It's all a learning process. :)
On my very first traveling assignment now too, definitely a learning experience and I settled for way less than I deserve. Won’t happen again. We learn,
I wore support panty hose until they stopped making them...sometime in the 90's. I never had a varicose vein during that time. They are totally worth it. Wish they still made them. Support hose these days are generally knee high. Please make sure that they are not too tight behind your knees. I should have kept wearing the support hose especially around my Dobermans...my dogs have run into my legs so many times that well you'll never see me in shorts again!!!
I know someone going to be a travel nurse in Honolulu starting in December. They are in their 20’s and are looking to experience life a little. You might as well do it when you’re young.
That sounds fantastic! Honestly Hawaii has been on our wish list for two years. We were going to try to go this year but with covid restrictions we did not want to take the whole fam and be stuck indoors the whole time. We have heard beaches are closed and state parks too. I hope your friend is still able to enjoy the islands!
LOL! 6:09, watch the care behind you slam on their brakes and get all sorts of huffy puffy chunking them hands up in the air! BTW, staff nurse here interested in travel nursing but apprehensive to take the leap.
I just took my first contract and after the first orientation shift I was told by the managers that I will be on night shift. I was never told or asked if I would work nights when setting up this contract with my recruiter. My recruiter even checked my contract and he said it was set up for day shift. However, the hospital is claiming that the recruiter was supposed to tell me that my position was "flexible", and that I would have to go wherever they want to put me. I want to be a team player, plus I have wanted to work at this hospital for a long time because it is a V.A. hospital and it is near my home. But, I'm pretty annoyed because I worked nights for years and its not something I want to do anymore. I'm trying to decide if I should do it as a way to make points with management as long as they promise to move me to days ASAP. Any opinions?

Loving you guys being in the Asheville area, as you drive around, we relive our years there through you!! Knew exactly where you were driving home!!
Hi, hoping to get my next travel contract in Asheville. My daughter just relocated there for her job.
Brand new. Thinking about travel nursing.
I'm a writer, my wife's a nurse. We're thinking about doing the same type of thing and saw your video. Good stuff!
Thank you!
IR RN from NY here ..looking into travel nursing now (IR or ED) as i have both experiences on those fields...that Bill Rate is interesting...and so is the reimbursement thing..lol!..Cheers!
Just about spit my drink out when you said love-hate relationship with people
Also toying with idea of selling everything and travel nursing.. watching your videos
It truly is worth it. The nursing is kinda meh but the travel is amazing! You have to look at it like a temporary thing that you can do for as long as you want. Also, the money is pretty nice, not gonna lie.
Your channel makes me want to cash flow nursing school and become a travel nurse with my girls. Thanks for the videos.-Cheri a CNA from Oregon.
Great advice, thank you. I will star my first travel assignment next week. Yep learning curve after 13 years of experience:)
We'll be a travel nurse family within 3-4 years and your channel is super helpful! I'm so excited to watch more vids and learn tips and tricks not only as a travel nurse but a travel nurse WITH KIDS ALONG! Do y'all camp full time if you pull a camper or do you utilize Airbnb? Where were the best assignments you took that worked well for your family?
@@NoOrdinaryPath Hi I just watched my this for the first time, and am a new travel nurse! Thank you for this video! I just moved from Reno and want to go back! Which place did you work there on contract if I may ask?
Always great information! Thank You for being a Nurse from the medical field myself I Know How Valuable you are! Thank You for sharing such sensitive information, such awesomeness for New or just any Travel nurse's
I'm an experience RN that has had an eclectic background but love critical care/emergency medicine. I've been away from bedside nursing for several year while I was in another avenue of nursing but I really want to get back to my roots and become a Travel RN as I always wanted to but had to put on hold due to family. Glad I watched this video but I still don't know which way to turn. Would also love to travel with an RV.
Yes I love compression socks!
Compression socks every shift! Literally life changing
YES!! :)
Totally Agree with the socks!!
Compression Socks = Life Changing! I never work a shift without them
Great info! Care to share the agencies you shy away from and why?
Brand new here! I'm a single mom and ready for a career change. I've heard good things about being a travel nurse, I've got a camper too 💖
Don’t do that to your child
I will be getting my first assignment soon. I am excited about being a travel nurse and your video helped because I am also nervous.
That's great! Do you have a recruiter? Email us at noordinarypath@gmail.com if you have any questions. :) It can be overwhelming at first but you got this!
Thank you!

fellow Murse !! Stay strong brother.
New here, about to finish my RN BSN program and have been trying to decide if travel nursing might be something I would enjoy!
I am signing my first contract tomorrow! Headed to buy a camper and truck and to follow some dreams!
Congratulations!! Enjoy the adventure
I love watching you guys! Curious, how far in advance do you start arranging your next location/assignment?
Usually about 4 to 6 weeks before the desired start date. Since we usually take a couple weeks off between that means about 4 weeks before the end of the current contract.
Hey there! Just took my 2nd contract in the travel nursing world! I’m
Pretty excited; most local but tell me how you love actual travel! Benefits
Looking to begin traveling towards the fall/winter of this year. So glad I found your channel!
Hi, newly subscribed here. I'm a brand new L&D nurse. I'm hoping to start traveling in 3 years. Cant wait!
Brand new here. Thinking of being a travel nurse next year in California.
Hello Andrea!! Welcome to NOP, we're thrilled you're here!
Thanks. I'm a man nurse from North Florida. I learn a lot.
Glad you found it helpful. :)
This is the first video I've seen from your channel. Great tips. I definitely subscribed. Just turned in my resignation and plan to do travel nursing.
Travel nursing is on my bucket list. At least 1 contract is my goal to do.
Traveling is a lot like Pringles...be warned ⚠️ 😄🤑🤯
So interesting. Thank you!
I have my LPN and thinking about traveling! Close to home during the school year and travel with the family in the summer!
Your opinion on compression socks is not because you’re “old.” Early twenties here, and I love compression socks for long days at school and work. Everyone should know about them!!!
Truth. 👍
Not sure I'm ready to take THAT leap Lisa! Although, I see how they would work the same. 😀 Thanks for watching.
Just keep watching for motivation Esther and reach out with any questions or when you think you're ready. Noordinarypath@gmail.com
Thanks so much! I'm starting my first assignment next week, your channel is AMAZING!
Good luck!! Thanks for watching.
Going for traveling as a respiratory therapist!!!
I am a CT Tech and have recently been researching Agency's --- there are SO SO many! Where do I begin?
Thank you so much for this video can’t wait to look at more 💕💕☝🏽 subscribed
Thanks for subbing!
I wouldn’t have taken it.
What did you end up doing?
New to the channel. I am starting my first travel assignment at the beginning of next month. I am nervous and excited. Thanks for the information!
Welcome to NOP Holly. Good luck on your beginning travel journey! You might check out our website and look under the Adventure Nursing tab to find some more info you might like! www.noordinarypath.com
This is a great video by the way. I love it. Your video is so informative
Just stumbled on your channel and I loved it. Also just subscribed.
