    I just want to say that i spent $100 k and 4 years on design school and not ONE instructor explained using the materials as clearly as you did. Thanks for creating content and helping things come full circle for me.

    I remember buying gouache for junior year drawing class - it was on the supply list, but we were never taught to use it. So it just sat in my kit for years before I tried to use it. Thank you for sharing this in depth tutorial

    Love this, thank you! I’ve enjoyed using rubbing alcohol instead of water because it dries so much faster but I know some people don’t like doing it that way ☺️

    i wonder how many times this pose has been reinterpreted from Greek marble statues. The 'contrapposto' pose that changed the way the body was presented in art. This classic pose was a break away from the upright ridgid representation of the human figure. The weight shifting too one leg and knees slightly bent showed a dynamic but still relaxed stance capturing a movement frozen in time, breathing life into the artwork.

    Hey Zoe! Great video
    I am an aspiring fashion designer illustrator and I’m kinda lost on where to start. I have been drawing my designs flat and on figures ( via pencil and via Adobe Illustrator) and not sure which direction to go. I’m not sure if u know or could share more about digital illustration in the fashion world but that would help! I’m so stuck right now trying to figure out if I should learn figure drawing via pencil or go into character design because u can learn the figure and the clothing. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! ❤️

    I have a question - which you might have a video answering this already - I like fashion illustration for the art aspect and look at a lot of different styles for inspiration. Some of those inspirations comes from well known names in different companies, they can be very stylized. At what point is stylizing the figure to far and is entering more art sketch than for business purposes ? Do well established illustrators get more freedom ? (I hope I am expressing this in a way that makes sense)

    • @zoehongteaches
      @zoehongteaches  2 роки тому +2

      Every illustrator has their own style and every style serves its own purpose. For designers, it's best to elaborate on the details of the design enough to communicate the design. For others, it can be purely to express portraiture, or express a mood.
      A company will typically hire an illustrator because they already like their style and want their style for their own purposes.
      Sometimes companies will ask an illustrator to change their style to be like someone else's style, but most illustrators do not like working this way for myriad reasons.

    I do this too, I mean I use reference but I those are 40's - 50's fashion illustration poses by Yves Saint Laurent, Oscar de Lorenta, old school pauses and art deco style of figures and some from Renaissance, I love the way they drew gowns and generally the way they draw movement amd figure it's just ahh✨✨✨😌

    Do you use a really soft lead? I’ve always found that once I’ve added watercolor the pencil marks get sealed in and not smeared. I will try working with gouache since I’ve never tried it.

    • @zoehongteaches
      @zoehongteaches  2 роки тому

      No, not unless I want some really dark finishing touches. I'm not worried about smearing after the illustration is done, because I try to touch none of it. I'm worried about graphite smearing while I'm painting.

    Another great video as always :)! Have you ever watched The Great British Sewing Bee? Before watching this video, I watched some others where you spoke about Project Runway and Next in Fashion. I'd love to know your thoughts on Sewing Bee compared to them. It's pretty big here in the UK, so I think there may well be other people interested to know what you think too. I'm not sure how easy it is to watch in America though!

    Hi Zoe, thank you so much for all your videos on fashion illustration.
    I know you dropped a video on how to use your channel to study fashion design/illustration before. But I'm still very confused on which video to watch next after the 4 step croquis building process. Could you drop a video on what order to watch your videos if I want to study fashion illustration exclusively. Thank you.
    BTW, I'm Nigerian. 3 years of studying fashion design and non of our lecturers have mentioned half of what is on your channel.
