It's because they're savin the round display for the second or third gen smartwatch

I think they didn’t want the ugly display controller band at one side of the display and they didn’t figure out an elegant way to hide it yet. But once they do, they’ll probably have a round display in future generations of the watch.
I think Apple cannot do round watches. They were not visionary enough to think outside the box and make a round watch. In fact, most companies didn't come up with it. Motorola was amazing in this respect.
René Henrich doubt it. iphone has always been candy bar with a black bezel and rounded edges. once you come up with a design you stick to it and improve it slightly.
I'm about sick of hearing about battery life on smart watches. As long as it can last a day that's all that should matter. I take my watches off and set them down every night. If there is a wireless charger I'll just set down on that. Why is there such a demand to have days and weeks of battery life on these watches?
Because people are lazy, that's all man, I agree with you but they figure since a regular watch lasts for years then smart watch should last for months or days at least but that can't be the case
Because people are lazy, that's all man, I agree with you but they figure since a regular watch lasts for years then smart watch should last for months or days at least but that can't be the case
I think it matter soon, yes present time not many apps that can integrate with the watch but think of the future when more and more apps keep poping up on your watch, if that Battery still less only 12 hours, it will be like having a S4, great spec but need a 2nd battery.
This moto 360 battery gate just shows us that day one review are everything but reliable. I've basically seen all the reviews of this watch and when people test it properly (not in the rush of having the test to be ready for launch date), they all say that it last more than a day when early reviewers all said it couldn't last the day. Anyway great job guys, already ordered mine !
Seems like the best thing to do is very much to wait a bit for Google to update Android Wear like they said. Everything else from a hardware perspective seems beautiful on the outside and quaint but functional on the inside and for a watch, that's going to be best.
I'm watching pinback next Tuesday! Also, seeing what next yr will bring for smart watches. The style is so close with the moto but I'm a windows phone user so I need to find my perfect wrist companion.
Just beautiful. LG G Watch R just doesn't cut it for me, because of its huge bezel. Something about that zero-bezel display makes it special. The Asus Zen watch is my favorite square watch.(:
It's like android, I mean LAGG! Damn, the OS is not ready for this, that's why Apple takes so LOOOOONG to launch products, it doesn't come out if is not GREAT. The Apple watch will be AWESOME.
moto did almost everything right here. Cool design Cool charger Cut corners in processor and display that are not noticeable because its a watch Well priced Just need to make it thinner and have a smaller version for women and skinny guys.
I like where the smartwatch market is going, but I won't get one until there's a good model that costs less than a Nexus tablet. Not with the kind of hardware currently under the hood.
I think the biggest thing holding back this watch is Android wear. Thankfully that can be improved over time. Battery life is harder, though. I had no idea voice control on Android was so terrible.
If the Apple watch wasn't platform specific I'd be more interested in it. Looking forward to seeing what Microsoft comes up with, and whether they can break the barrier between ecosystems...
The one thing people fail to relies about Smartwatches and Soon to be Smart headwear is that its an acessrary in that it needs your phone. People are complaining that you cant talk to your watch, you shouldn't have to. Yeah its nice to have the ability to. Its one of the things I loved most about the Pebble, It did everything it needed to and nothing that was excessive and that made it great. Im all for it but companies are rushing to make the " Next big thing " as Samsung puts it, If companies worked togerther, Smartwatches and Smart Headgear will be something great but if everyone is making one and Samsung putting out 3-4 watches a year has killed the trend. Its not that people don't believe in the tech its that companies are flooding the market and everyone is tired of them.
Nice review +PocketNow ...The battery is what has me thinking weather to wait for the next version or jump on this one. After hearing that at the end of the day you still have 50% of juice left I think I'll be picking this one up. That is once the metal wristband are available.
Just got my moto 360 with the leather band for $165(taxes included) at Best Buy! (07/03/15)! Now I think it's worth it, but not the $250+ Moto wanted for it when it came out.
jose Calderon Do you think it was a good buy? I'm planning on buying one soon because of the price cut, but I want to be sure I'm getting my money's worth.
Costlyrocket after only about two hours, build quality is top notch, but I haven't played with it enough to say yes for sure. I'm about to update the software to 5.1, which people say that it runs much better with the update. The screen is low on resolution, but you really have to look hard and upclose to notice the pixels. I'll give you my opinion after a full day with the software.
Costlyrocket well I took it off the charger at about 10am and I'm still at work at around 10pm and it just died. I think the problem is that I use my hands a lot at work and I'm always raising my wrist, so the screen would turn on just about every time. And that might be a deal breaker for me. I'm currently really thinking about getting the Asus zenwatch, which has significantly more battery life (according to the reviews) and costs $199 at Best Buy, which would be $50 more than the Moto 360 with the leather band. I'll give it a few more days to see if I do that. I also had all notifications on, so that didn't help and I also had google fit running, which some people say runs your battery down. I'll try to keep it on the charger until I head out the door tomorrow. So far I have loved everything about the MOTO 360, except the battery life.
Costlyrocket after looking at all the all the current crop of smart watches, I think that the Moto 360 is still the best of the bunch as far as looks go! I have read up in battery issues after the 5.1.1 update and will be resetting everything to start fresh, since some people mentioned that as a solution to get more than one day of battery life. So far today my battery life has OK (from 12:50 PM to 9pm), which is better but not great. I'll let you know what happens tomorrow! I still think that the 360 is worth the $160 that I paid to be honest. I just have to get the batter life issue resolved.
I dont know why everyone bashes the TI OMAP3. I'd like to bring you back to a time where Texas Instruments were perfecting processors while leaving Qualcomme in the dust ! need to remember that this is a smart watch ! Your phone does the heavy lifting and this is a projection of that via the bluetooth. The snap 400 in the other watches has 3 of the 4 cores shut down BTW, the side by side comparison of the single core processes would surprise you ! VERY CLOSE. Just saying that just because a processor is old, doesn't mean it's inefficient. Just my opinion, ive always had better luck with TI than with Qualcomme .
I'll buy it. They are the only smartwatch on Android Wear that's not embarassing to wear and to use in public, because they really look like a watch afterall.
Gonna wait on the apple watch, if that is an all together terrible product then this will be my next choice, hopefully android wear will have matured by then.
Well, aware of there differences between both of these OSs,if i switch ill drop my iPhone and pick up a moto X, should have clarified that, other wise ill stick to my iPhone, don't get me wrong I love android been using it since back in the eclair days when everyone hated it, but now its just stale.... I wanted something different and no android phone could deliver, hell I might just buy a lumia if i feel like it...,
One of the reasons you wear a watch is as a fashion item and in that respect, for me, the Moto 360 looks the best so far. The problem is the big black screen. With the face off, or very dim, most of the time it just looks naff.
for me, the screen have to be always on, because if i HAVE to touch the screen or that side button JUST to see the clock, i don't think that is "smart". Smart or not, it is still a watch...
Its funny when one review came out and said battery life was terrible and a lot of people went with it and immediately dismissed the 360. Yet pocketnow is easily getting through and full day and marques brownlee got 17 hours of usage with 10℅ remaining
Lots of lag in the UI that I can see, my G Watch is much smoother. It also does not have any problem with lasting a full day and sometimes a second one with the screen turned on all the time. It may not be as pretty, but it is still a good (maybe even a better) buy.
Is it a big deal to have a android phone? I have iPhone but I really don't like there watch and this one has a bit more style so im really thinking of buying this on.
it's definetly the best looking watch out there atm, but would a snapdragon 400 really drive up the price that much? I know it's a watch and all... but I am one of those people who really get's put off by stuttering. still the watch itself is breathtaking.
Bisogna provarlo con il proprio utilizzo... A me anche se dura una giornata va bene... Due sarebbe l'ideale.. Di più con un display così é chiedere troppo... Abbiamo ancora limiti di tecnologia purtroppo!
I was ready to get this watch. Till the reviews came in. I was never all to bothered by the black bar at the bottom. Although not ideal, the trade off for the look and function made it acceptable. What changed my mind and opting to wait for a V2 was the sub par battery life, old processor and meh screen clarity. All makes me feel like Motorola lost a battle with bean counters. I'm a little sad inside.
Software and design is top notch but hardware.. not so much. They used a old processor to save whats already a small battery but that results in occasional lags and throttling as you can see on some places. The display's low res is also to save battery. Fix your battery, moto! If they do they can improve the entire hardware. For clarification, I dont think the apple watch will be much better ... atleast the Moto 360 is beatiful to look at.
Geez. Been hearing about this thing for months. I'll stick to my Casio stainless steel wristwatch I bought on Amazon for less than 20 bucks. Got it in 2004 or 2005 and I haven't had to replace the battery yet. It's 2014, people.
I honestly think the Stone Leather band (the one used in the video) is the best. The black./steel ones just look meh. Like wearing a traditional black/gray suit with a blue or red tie - boring. Also, I think it has a much better blend of looking good when you dress casually, semi-formal, formal or professional.
after seeing all the big reviewers on youtube talk about the 360, i dont want one now literally all it has going for it is looks, the lag and low screen res and battery just make this device so uncompelling, i think ill be getting the LG G Watch R its better in every single way
Its so beautiful. But i feel all the functions and technology that is in it to justify the price is all a waste and useless, I just want a watch where I can change the background whenever I please
Michael Fisher is the best tech reviewer on UA-cam in my opinion!
MKBHD?
Banned From Life Why not both?
diamond22 Yeah, I think both.
Stefan C. Agreed.
Flossy carter ?:)
I wonder why Apple didn't go for the round display?
Honestly, after the 360 the square face is a bit unappealing.
The problem with round faces is that it cut out a bit of the text just like you could se in the video.
It's because they're savin the round display for the second or third gen smartwatch
I think they didn’t want the ugly display controller band at one side of the display and they didn’t figure out an elegant way to hide it yet. But once they do, they’ll probably have a round display in future generations of the watch.

This guy has a good narrative voice. Felt really nice to listen to him.

Priority should be phone battery tho
8 years later and this thing still looks gorgeous!
This moto 360 battery gate just shows us that day one review are everything but reliable.

I love the way which dis guy follows to present things!!

Captian2Phones - your review is very honest, thank you!
Still better than iwatch. *prepares for the hate*
"It's probably " Hell yea Michael Fisher got this!
I hope that it will go on sale here in the Philippines. I'm sold!
at the 2:07 mark, a Lotus Exige, Nice! (you can see the roof air inlet).
I'm watching pinback next Tuesday! Also, seeing what next yr will bring for smart watches. The style is so close with the moto but I'm a windows phone user so I need to find my perfect wrist companion.

you going to do an after the buzz for this?
I will wait for htc to release their smart watch and after that i will decide if i will buy the 360 or the latter
What a creative headline for the video 😏
I'm surprised no manufacturer as yet brought out a smart watch that can charge through natural light like many analogue watches.
This? Or lg g watch R?
moto did almost everything right here.
Cool design
Cool charger
Cut corners in processor and display that are not noticeable because its a watch
Well priced
Just need to make it thinner and have a smaller version for women and skinny guys.
Great review Michael!
finally a reviewer with brain, not just driven by his own emotions
Thank you so much for the review!!!
I like where the smartwatch market is going, but I won't get one until there's a good model that costs less than a Nexus tablet. Not with the kind of hardware currently under the hood.
awesome!
i'm looking forward for a similar build that runs Windows. but not necessarily from motorola.
I think the biggest thing holding back this watch is Android wear. Thankfully that can be improved over time. Battery life is harder, though.

Congratulations Motorola at last a beautiful device

I love how the 007 face is a choice lol
Aren't we sick of notifications already? I just went out yesterday and bought a 30$ casio watch! Fuck yea.
a bigger battery, more power efficient cpu and AMOLED screen is basically all the next gen on moto 360 needs
Nice review +PocketNow ...The battery is what has me thinking weather to wait for the next version or jump on this one. After hearing that at the end of the day you still have 50% of juice left I think I'll be picking this one up. That is once the metal wristband are available.

Setting timer n alarm
Word definition
Nearest restaurants ( if im somewhere new )
I have one. Love it!
Love the glasses.

Droid X was a beast though :)
My thoughts when I click on a Pocketnow video: "Please let it NOT be Jaime Rrrrrrrrrrrrivera.
Gonna wait on the apple watch, if that is an all together terrible product then this will be my next choice, hopefully android wear will have matured by then.
apple watch is disgusting.
Aple stated that it would allo basically need evreryday charg (in their declaration about the charging port fort the iWacth)

sashundera91 how is it disgusting ?, I get it its cool to hate apple, but come on...
***** Looks like the first iphone and ipod nano strapped on your wrist.
Great review, Great voice!
Fair review....
Good on you!
One of the reasons you wear a watch is as a fashion item and in that respect, for me, the Moto 360 looks the best so far. The problem is the big black screen. With the face off, or very dim, most of the time it just looks naff.
If I had the money I'd consider getting one
Someone should make a snap on case for it that makes it look like the MMPR communicator.
for me, the screen have to be always on, because if i HAVE to touch the screen or that side button JUST to see the clock, i don't think that is "smart". Smart or not, it is still a watch...
But he said something about the accelerometer, which means lifting up the watch to your face should be able to turn it on.
Excellent review
I've been hearing that it's good. But no one actually told whether it's worth 250$. Should I go ahead and buy it? Or wait for a better watch?
hey can you guys do a video on how the motor 360 affects your phone battery life, it's in a positive or negative way?
Its funny when one review came out and said battery life was terrible and a lot of people went with it and immediately dismissed the 360. Yet pocketnow is easily getting through and full day and marques brownlee got 17 hours of usage with 10℅ remaining
I don't see a problem with the price though. Even with hickups and such. It just costs $15 more then my regular analog watch.
Exactly! And it does much more !!!
Cool planet watch face called
They should really start giving the devices they review a rating. Like "Moto 360 gets a 7/10" or something like that.
Still love my Moto 360 and no the flat tire is not a problem.
Nah, I'll pass this round, but will keep an eye out next year, I like the concept.
Lots of lag in the UI that I can see, my G Watch is much smoother. It also does not have any problem with lasting a full day and sometimes a second one with the screen turned on all the time. It may not be as pretty, but it is still a good (maybe even a better) buy.
Honestly use it when you go out or go somewhere but turn it off when your at home when it has no real use I'm getting about 3 days off it easy
Are the prices lister here Canadian or us?
I'd like a pocket watch, the coolest Victorian sci-fi gadget
The black one looks better, it hides the black bar a little bit nicer.
The processor choice issue is not about horsepower, but energy efficiency not up to par with today's standards.
mmm it looks so good
Is it a big deal to have a android phone? I have iPhone but I really don't like there watch and this one has a bit more style so im really thinking of buying this on.
Not feeling this watch to much but i do think apple should have went with a round display.

Secret agent wallpaper from the 007 golden eye game for Nintendo 64

If the apple watch is close to the price range of the moto 360, which would be better?
interesting, you're shorter than i imagined Michael, still taller than me, but still
Software and design is top notch but hardware.. not so much. They used a old processor to save whats already a small battery but that results in occasional lags and throttling as you can see on some places. The display's low res is also to save battery. How long does it take to fully charge it?
I'm waiting for the LG G watch R
can the moto 360 work with the iphone?
I'm the first to comment!! I think the black bar under the screen is not so good.
got it for $149 at best buy!!
Geez. Been hearing about this thing for months. I'll stick to my Casio stainless steel wristwatch I bought on Amazon for less than 20 bucks. Got it in 2004 or 2005 and I haven't had to replace the battery yet. It's 2014, people.
Got mine in black ;)
I once heard "never be out in wildernesses without a watch" for that I'd take the pebble over this gimmick, or a actually time tested watch
I wish more watches worked with iOS, I really don't want to pay $340+ for a watch...
So why is it OK for this phone to require being charged each day and not the #iWatch? whats the difference?
Do you need an android to use this... I have an iphone screw apple watch.
So I can't deside between going with the steel or the black colored look. Peope have any ideas?
I will get steel band for the clock.
SO you are suggesting the Steel Clock with stone leather band?
Thx for the reply, have a few things to consider now :)
after seeing all the big reviewers on youtube talk about the 360, i dont want one now literally all it has going for it is looks, the lag and low screen res and battery just make this device so uncompelling, i think ill be getting the LG G Watch R its better in every single way
I am 1 inch taller than Michael, but he still has a cooler voice and better hair.
I had one of these, and it was mediocre. Performance was eh, battery life was shit. I jumped to a Pebble Time and I’ve been there ever since.
is the better than the sony 3 >?
Samsung Gear 2 (not S2) or Moto 360 I cannot decide.
Would have bought definitely only if it was square or rectangle.
What do you need more than an omap? A bloody snapdragon 805?
Waiting for 'India Launch'
Is the strap replaceable? Can this work with my iPhone 6 Plus?
No crapple will never let that happen
Moto 360 must be the smexiest smartwatch around :P
I need the promo code
It's a toy which isn't bad although far from ready to grace my wrist - two more iterations should do it.
Am i able to go for a swim while wearing this? Or do i have to take it off
Its so beautiful. But i feel all the functions and technology that is in it to justify the price is all a waste and useless, I just want a watch where I can change the background whenever I please
