The dude from the other party, Soldat, was reading Rudeus like a book. Rudeus wasn't taking big jobs and all the money, he was doing small fry stuff (like shoveling snow) to put his name out there so that he could easily gain information from people who liked him (explained last episode.) Soldat knows Rudy is strong. It bothers him that somebody so strong can basically sit there and do shit jobs while he "looks down" on everyone else.
That guy still had no right to judge Rudy for what he does! He literally has no idea what has gone on in Rudy's life. he is a complete dick but still rudy should accept some reward for the things that he does, probably the only thing that soldat said that I even remotely agreed with was that statement but only in a general sense. that line really is realistic and accurate for life. As for the rest it just seemed like a over confidant sense of jealousy to me. Rudeus is allowed to do with HIS strength whatever he sees fit, and its no one else business. Also it pissed me off when he asked rudeus about what his reasons are for doing what he chooses to do as if he had any obligations to tell sold anything about him or his life. I really wish rudy would have punched his pompous ass tbh.
@breannameriweather5060 The reason he is judging Rudy is actually pretty valid. Rudy is doing these jobs that he takes from the guild, and he's refusing payment. While that's nice for the people, and it spreads his name, it's really bad for the local adventurers that make a living doing these jobs. If someone suddenly comes into town and sets the expectation that their job can be done for free, it sets a horrible precedent and takes food off of the tables of those adventurers that would normally take those jobs. These are people that Soldat has known for a long time that are losing income because of this guy who is clearly strong just rolling into town, taking all the jobs and moping around all depressed in between. If some outsider did that to you, how would you feel?

A pro bono attorney doesn't take a ton of jobs from others, they take a select few jobs, and in a lot of places a certain number of pro bono hours are required by the bar association in the state they are licensed in.
They didn't establish it in S1, so I'll briefly explain. In every continent in Mushoku Tensei there are monsters called "treants". As the name suggests, they are basically hostile trees that came to life because a normal tree someway absorbed mana. These treants are basically the slimes of other isekai anime, one of the easiest monsters to defeat. However, there are cases that treants absorbed so much mana they are able to cast magic spells. The one in this episode was one of those, but a bit stronger. The way that that treant got so strong is that it caught people and other monsters, trapped it in itself and, basically, sucked the life and mana from its prey, just like what was happening with Sara.
11:40 Sara only reacted the way she did cause Rudy's eyes kept darting up and down. We don't get a monologue here in the anime but in the LN and manga he was both appreciating the legs while being concerned over the fractured leg as he's healing it.

I've seen some LN readers complain that the anime didn't set up Soldat's problem with Rudeus well so it came out seemingly random during the scene where he's drunk, but the earlier scene where Soldat gave Rudy the stank look suggests that he had been observing Rudy for quite some time and he hasn't liked the way he is. I do agree with the criticism though that the transition between the dinner scene and Counter Arrow arriving after the mission that left Sara and Mimir could have been done much better.

I'm not an LN reader, well technically I am, but I haven't read this part of the LN yet, but I enjoyed this episode a lot and like Roshi, I was able to get the hint that Soldat had been observing Rudy for a while with the look he gave him in the beginning of the episode. This episode has been getting a lot of flak, and sadly, it's not even from anime-only fans, most of them just enjoyed it, but most of the flak are coming from LN readers. I even read complaints about the anime making Sara too attractive. I thought the episode was good, and my only criticism is that transition between the dinner scene and the scene where Counter Arrow arrives without Sara and Mimir. I also think that it makes sense that they're just happy at the end of the episode without mourning Mimir because Sara and Rudy just returned and the remaining Counter Arrow members are just happy that Sara returned alive as they really expected her to be dead too.

The Quagmire nickname actually sounds pretty badass to me, especially since it's really what Rudy usually does as it's practical. It makes enemies stay in one places and are therefore easier to hit. From what I can remember, Rudy used it in his fight with Paul, against one of the people who kidnapped Eris, against the Shirone soldiers when he rescued Aisha, against the pet hunters in the Demon Continent, and of course against the lush grizzlies last episode, and I'm sure there are more. He loves using that spell.
If I remember correctly I believe there's some lore about a monster or something that swallows people through the ground kinda like Quagmire, so it's like extra scary to others. Another bedtime story like the Superd.
yeah, Rudy loves starting a battle with the Quagmire spell, it's fitting in another way because it's both Water and Earth spell, his strongest Magic Elements.
I guess I should say this; Rudy doesnt keep Roxys panties for lustful reasons. He values it as a memento of her because of her teaching him how to not fear the outside world. Yes, its weird. Yes, its a little creepy. But so is Rudeus.

Rudeus’s nickname is Quagmire because it’s the spell he always uses in combat with a party. No matter the situation or party dynamic, if he uses quagmire to make enemies lose their footing and end up in a group primed for picking off, he’ll be very useful. Since he doesn’t have the coordination with every party to know where to attack with a different spell (for instance, maybe he wants to hit a buffalo with a stone bullet but the swordsman moves in the way right as he fires and is now missing a shoulder), he uses Quagmire most of the time to just make fighting easier
Roxy is the one that took him out and gave him comfort when he was little. of course the smell of the panties is what made him remember her and kept him going
Actually the panties have been washed (by Lilia) shortly after Roxy left, so they don't smell like her anymore, (Thank God,) but they do give him comfort either way.

I know it's like a meme that a guy works out after a breakup, but in his case, it's about keeping his physical training for his life as an adventurer. Even though he is a great mage, his body is weak, so what he does is to keep himself more or less prepared for when just magic might not be enough. For his nickname, as some explained, it's given to him because of his favored spell being a quagmire, when he turns the floor into mud to stop approaching enemies. If you go all the way back, Rudeus was already using it when he was a child training swords with Paul when Ghislaine went to pick him up to teach Eris.
A couple of things, Rudeus is a sant level water user, dispelling weather or changing it is easy for him, I mean thats how he graduated from being Roxy's pupil ( we also saw her do it, since she taught him that one spell ) 2nd, the reason Rudeus kept asking if she was OK and stuff, cause he noticed her thigh had wounds that wouldn't be cause by the Buffalo or tree, aka self inflicted, I had to rewatch it a few times, cause I was wondering why he was insistent on it being an old wound, or something wrong with her leg
So, context to for the holy relic aka Roxy's panties. Roxy was the major catalyst for Rudy to overcome his anxiety with leaving the bounds of his home. Remember when he was reincarnated he was a shut-in that wouldn't even go to his own parents' funeral. That carried over into this life where he was afraid to leave the bounds of his home fence. She helped him overcome that truama, which for that to him he will always see her as his goddess.

I have a theory on why Rudeus developed a physique so quickly, so most of us know that to build muscle means working out thereby destroying the muscle bit by bit so it grows back bigger and stronger, what if everytine Rudeus' muscles are fatigued he heals them, speeding up the muscle recovery and growth

Indeed, the guild gets community service quests for mages to power the community "snow melt" thermal circle. (Usually it takes the Mana Pool of several). Rudy's impulse is to also join the basic snow management on the shoveling end of things too. Good labor is a good workout too. I like that these odd jobs are merged in the OP Montage setting buildup. All of this "below his pay grade"stuff he does for "reasons". The curremt plan to spread his name and reputation is bearing the fruits of general goodwill, but as Sol points out, the facade is wearing thin for those looking.🧐 And it undercuts the paid adventurer market. When Rudy decides to Solo the rescue/recovery, we see him flex those Demon Continent honed skills he is concealing from everyone else. [Weather Control]? Easy. [Field of Spikes]? 360° no-scope. [Immolation]? Half handwave... but all without witnesses, and not for Pride. This is self actualization, making "a difference" in ways all the odd jobs and support work is not. While I understand the principle of the other Adventurers gribes about doing jobs for free, I can't understand the sheer hostility for it. How long has he been in town? He's constantly on the road, so what, a week or two? And the jobs Rudy takes alone aren't the big money jobs, just the low rank helping around town. The big jobs he does take are as backup to another established group. And at the end of the day, he's just one guy half assing his way through, like is it all that serious?
That relic is holding him back from fully depending on himself and the things he can actually do. He needs to get over himself. Counter arrow has saved him couple times from his delusions during battles.
How I see it, that dude dislikes when strong people act meek and shy, we know the leader of counter is actually pretty strong flinging spell after spell, and we know rudeus is strong too, hopefully after saving Sara, we see Rudeus being more active with his goals instead of passively waiting
Sol saw Rudeus again on another day and decides to dis him again. Then shortly after, Counter Arrow walks through the door. That's why it looks like nothing has changed between those two scenes.

I'm not an LN reader, well technically I am, but I haven't read this part of the LN yet, but I enjoyed this episode a lot and like Roshi, I was able to get the hint that Soldat had been observing Rudy for a while with the look he gave him in the beginning of the episode. This episode has been getting a lot of flak, and sadly, it's not even from anime-only fans, most of them just enjoyed it, but most of the flak are coming from LN readers. I even read complaints about the anime making Sara too attractive. I thought the episode was good, and my only criticism is that transition between the dinner scene and the scene where Counter Arrow arrives without Sara and Mimir. I also think that it makes sense that they're just happy at the end of the episode without mourning Mimir because Sara and Rudy just returned and the remaining Counter Arrow members are just happy that Sara returned alive as they really expected her to be dead too.

It's not Unwanted-Undead-Adventurer level but just because 1 volume is being adapted to 3 episodes doesn't mean it's bad. I have more of a problem IF they skipped arcs but a few scenes that tells the passage of time isn't that big.

The Quagmire nickname actually sounds pretty badass to me, especially since it's really what Rudy usually does as it's practical. It makes enemies stay in one places and are therefore easier to hit. From what I can remember, Rudy used it in his fight with Paul, against one of the people who kidnapped Eris, against the Shirone soldiers when he rescued Aisha, against the pet hunters in the Demon Continent, and of course against the lush grizzlies last episode, and I'm sure there are more. He loves using that spell.
If I remember correctly I believe there's some lore about a monster or something that swallows people through the ground kinda like Quagmire, so it's like extra scary to others. Another bedtime story like the Superd.

Rudeus’s nickname is Quagmire because it’s the spell he always uses in combat with a party. No matter the situation or party dynamic, if he uses quagmire to make enemies lose their footing and end up in a group primed for picking off, he’ll be very useful. Since he doesn’t have the coordination with every party to know where to attack with a different spell (for instance, maybe he wants to hit a buffalo with a stone bullet but the swordsman moves in the way right as he fires and is now missing a shoulder), he uses Quagmire most of the time to just make fighting easier
Roxy is the one that took him out and gave him comfort when he was little. of course the smell of the panties is what made him remember her and kept him going

And then they had issues with a new animation which made a cut that they ended up using anyways and they didn't even pay for it. It's already solved and they are talking about the issue. I know it's like a meme that a guy works out after a breakup, but in his case, it's about keeping his physical training for his life as an adventurer. Even though he is a great mage, his body is weak, so what he does is to keep himself more or less prepared for when just magic might not be enough.
For his nickname, as some explained, it's given to him because of his favored spell being a quagmire, when he turns the floor into mud to stop approaching enemies. If you go all the way back, Rudeus was already using it when he was a child training swords with Paul when Ghislaine went to pick him up to teach Eris.
