Dude! This is the best gelli plate demo channel that I've come across since I learned about gelli plate printing over 6 years ago. You are amazing. I enjoy learning from your process and techniques. Cheers.
Cheers Kay, that's really kind praise as I'm guessing after 6 years you've watched a few tutorials! I'm delighted you're getting something from the videos. Happy making!! : )
You are THE BEST! I get SO MUCH out of every single one of your videos. Deep, deep thanks for your super experimental, open-ended approach, Mark. I trained decades ago in traditional etching & lithography using acids and other toxic chemicals. Gel Plate has brought me back to a way of seeing, thinking about & practicing in the studio. Many, many thanks!
Your message really brightened me Carolyn. I'm delighted the vids are helping in some way to getting you back into printing. That was my main hope in starting the channel, that people would be inspired to experiment. I'm going to do some vids on drypoint, there are some really good watersoluble inks around now : ) easy to use at home.
Music to my ears Sadie - if you've had a brilliant day playing with prints as a result of my video then that is job done for me! What have you been working on?
@@yeatesmakes I made a small masking tape print, which turned out really well. Got out a couple of old collagraphs and played around with different papers, newsprint, music sheets, tissue paper etc. Basically had fun and found some nice new effects.I’ve ordered a gelli plate :-) So a big thank you for getting kickstarting me back into action.
I feel like my jaw is always on the floor when I watch your videos lol...your creative ideas and how they take shape are so inspiring! Thank you for sharing your genius. 🤓
❤️❤️ Got to the end of the video and you totally made me all flustrered. 🤭🤭🤭 Feel like a superstar now. You're very welcome and very much deserve it. You are a fresh breath in the monoprinting/gelli plate world. (Oh and you pronounced my name perfectly.) 😉
You have morphed into the MASTER of the Gel Plate! I don't think anybody else (that I know of) has carried "creative experimentation" as far as you have. Amazing! Please keep on making videos. I love the way your brain constantly thinks out of the box! 👍
I love that you ate using the gel plate to do some really amazing art work that could easily be framed in beautiful plain white frames. I'd really like to see how you cut out the sea weed onto the perspex .
Cheers Allison, yep, good on Aino, she's been following for a fair few weeks now and always leaves encouraging comments! She's definitely a community spirit! Sorry about speed, most feedback I've had is that speed is good as some other vids are often a little ploddy...
Yikes! So inspiring :) I can't wait to try this too! Exactly what I've been thinking about - a more direct method of getting my own work printed using a gel plate, rather than creating endless pages of interesting backgrounds. 🤣🤣🤣 Thank you so much!
@@yeatesmakes had a go with Chinagraph pencil. Massive fail. Will have another go as thinking 1) first layer on plate is too thick and 2) maybe I pressed the image down too hard! Did have some success with layering/stencils/drying/pulling though. I'll persevere 😊🙏
One of the best uses of a gel plate I've seen - but then your preparatory work with the collograph technique is such a good idea and so skillfully carried out it could hardly fail in the end! I'll be looking at more of your videos. Thank you.
After taking a workshop in my town and watching scores of Gelli print videos I stumbled across your channel. Can you say “game changer”? You have elevated this process for me. Thank you for sharing your journey. There’s so much value in what you’re doing.
You are so talented. Your channel is just amazing! I can’t stop watching the techniques that you are so gratefully sharing. I just got my first gelli plate a few days ago and I am just so happy that I came across your channel. It combines everything that I love. All the best for you and I hope you never stop sharing your beautiful art.

as always a masterclass Mark thanks for the share and I love that you leave in any little errors in process you make so we can learn with you. For me the pulls with the green and Ocher in is definitely a great result that you could work with
I love to experiment with art (and craft) techniques and I just recently made a gelli plate to try out. Thank you for sharing your techniques. It's very inspiring. 🙂
I truly appreciate watching your process and feel so encouraged to keep trying. I just started experimenting with mono printing with a gel plate and not all of them come out nice. This is the most supportive video I’ve seen on the process and I will just keep working at it. Your detailed mask of sea grasses is beautiful. Thanks for this!
I reckon gel printing is more hit and miss than most printing techniques but all need a lot of tinkering to get right and sometimes serendipity hits!!!!
Thank you soo much for sharing this technique! Very exciting! Cannot wait to try it out later today. Love all of the prints and the outcome of the last one is great!!! Please don't hand colour it since it is beautiful as is!!
this is absolutely lovely! .... gosh, another moment to consider and a technique to put into my bag of tricks! As always you have such a clear means of discovery. This is really wonderful! What you are doing for printing with the gelli plate to extend its use is just down right astounding!
Absolutely gorgeous! I love your approach--art is all about the journey and you're on an extraordinary journey that I hope you'll continue to share. Thank you!
Beyond fiddly!! The masking tape bit drove me mad..tried also with Elco…creative kids sticky backed paper..easier to cut and good for shapes wider than masking tape. But fell down at the Gelli print stage..did one inking only..found the shapes didn’t transfer well onto the plate or onto the paper. Tried putting through a little hand press..no go, inked the masking taped plate and direct transfer onto paper by hand..a bit more effective. That’s when found the Elco didn’t last as well as masking tape..began to peel off…so good to know. Will try again..but as a relief ( ouch the pun) going to water colour print some ginkgo leaves.
this was amazing, and so beautiful! I would have never thought you could get so much depth from masking tape. I would love to see how you hand color these afterwards.
