  • Former research chimpanzee Lucky and her four group mates experience the forest for the first time at Project Chimps! Watch this narrated, 30-minute live feed from the roof of the chimps' villa at the Project Chimps sanctuary for former research chimpanzees, located in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Georgia. The chimpanzees retired permanently to sanctuary in November 2018 and had their first opportunity to go outdoors one month later. Watch Lucky, Chloe, Betty, Harriett and Panielle and learn which chimpanzee went outside into the sanctuary's forest, 6-acre habitat first! You can support Lucky and all the chimpanzees now retired at Project Chimps by visiting projectchimps.org/donate/ today.

    This is a beautiful thing you are doing. I believe this animals are smart enough in, their own way, to wonder what have I done to be treated so bad. I am so happy for them. I'm proud of all of you for giving them this wonderful life. These animals are lucky to have all of you. May God bless those who care enough to care for one another. Jerry

    *EXCELLENT* and heart warming to see this...this release brought tears of joy !! Thank you to the staff, volunteers, and to the donors that provided this lovely sanctuary villa so that the rescued chimps can live out the rest of their lives in peace...I am very thankful that there will be no more lab testing using chimps !! Hallelujah !! 💞Vivi💞

    I love that one of the chimps (Betty) took a plush toy with her, when she ventured out into the unknown area :)

    Just the thought of trees being unfamiliar to a chimp’s, truly sad. At least the rest of their days will be like their on a permanent vacation. Love seeing stuff like this, thanks for sharing.

    Just found this channel and I love it! This makes me both sad and extremely happy. Sad that these beautiful animals were used by us humans in this awful way, happy and so greatful to all of you who are trying to make a difference in these chimps lifes. It makes me so happy and it gives hope for the future! ❤️❤️

    FYI: Look closely and you can see Lucky climbing a tree 12:14 to 12:30, ( bottom center of screen.) She climbs up, down and joins the rest of the group to the left at 12:50. What a trooper!

    • @ProjectChimps
      @ProjectChimps  5 років тому +2

      No major encounters yet that we know of. There are birds, raccoons and opossum around so it's likely to happen.

    Not sure if that fence could keep them in there if they were excited. Jumping on a fence won't shock them, they have to be touching the ground right? That is how squirrels and birds keep from getting shocked by electrical wires. Not saying they would get out..but just thinking about it.

    • @ProjectChimps
      @ProjectChimps  5 років тому

      The fence is low-voltage and will give them a slight shock if they jump up on it.

  • @RubixNinja

    That makes me a little sad you guys won't give them the opertunity to breed.
    To me, that's a huge part of life, and they may feel empty/without purpose.
    But I can understand your point.

      Baby chimps are adorable, but they shouldn't be kept in captivity. It costs about $20k per year to support a chimpanzee in sanctuary and they can live for more than 50 years.

    I feel that’s wrong not to allow them to mate. I’m sure there are plenty of donations which you just said will allow you to bring the other 150 chimps. So they should be allowed to mate.

    The habitat needs organic herbs veggies & fruit... Not just random objects to eat everywhere... They need to use their mind more & bring themselves back to mother nature intentions by using their instincts to go forage for food & figuring out things on their own like this trek outside. They need organic nutrients
    (for the mind, body, & soul)!

    The view from the rooftop for the entire 30 minutes was underwhelming. Most of the other videos have multiple camera angles so people can see the chimps’ faces and reactions clearly. I didn’t enjoy this at all.
