Backstory: When captive chimpanzees were declared an endangered species in the US in 2015, hundreds of lab chimps needed a forever home. Thanks to the tireless efforts of animal advocates, Project Chimps was born. See how they created a forever home for former research chimps in the Blue Ridge Mountains of north Georgia. I was sitting on the balcony of my rental cabin in Blue Ridge, GA, over Labor Day, weekend drinking coffee, enjoying a beautiful sunny morning. I was listening to the animal sounds of the forest - - birds, cicadas -- and, wait, is that a chimp?! I kept hearing the distinct call of a chimpanzee. I thought, "Gosh, I'm losing my mind." But the sound kept up, so I googled 'chimps in georgia' on my phone and found out this habitat was just down the hill from where I was staying. It made me very happy. I REALLY wanted to visit, but that's only allowed under specific circumstances -- totally understandable. Thank you for taking care of these beautiful animals.

Places like this are absolutely crucial to giving a home to chimps that have been used in experiments in addition to chimps that were kept as pets. People should consider donating to such important work because they receive little to no funding otherwise.

This is really awesome. I wish i could have a do-over of my life and work with chimps instead. We were never really educated about chimps, orangutans, and gorillas when i was in school. I hope kids are learning about them in school now.

Nothing is impossible 💙 sad what us humans do to these beautiful creatures. We robe them from normal lives and now they deserve every thing to live the best they can and not be study or experiment on.
