- The cruise passengers who found themselves stranded on an African island have finally rejoined the ship. They were left behind on a remote island. After a six-day odyssey, they finally reboarded the cruise liner in Senegal. Violetta Sanders and her husband, Doug, say the entire experience was a nightmare. They had no credit cards nor could they communicate with anyone. Inside Edition’s Lisa Guerrero has more.

@@lauranolastnamegiven3385 it could’ve been a customs and immigration thing, different countries and port entries have different rules and regulations as to who can just hop aboard a foreign cruise ship.
It’s not like the cruise liner *wanted* to just abandon its paying guests, but they have extremely strict schedules and rules to adhere to, if they held up the entire cruise of possibly hundreds of people just for 2 individuals, that’s putting not just this cruise’s schedule in jeopardy, but the entire future schedule as well. A ship will sail out at the exact time they’re assigned to, not a minute earlier or later, theyve always been this way-it’s on the customer for not managing their time correctly.
@@goobert5485 it wasn't holding up anything, when they caught up on the next stop, the captain just wouldn't let them board, like it was personal, like he wanted to punish them, like they were naughty children, but they were paying customers who goofed, but were helped (gosh those people on the island were nice!) to catch up....their tickets should've just been cancelled, & the balance of their cruise refunded, if the captain was going to be like that

@@loosilu the ship was at its next stop, why would she have to climb a rope ladder? wasn't she just on shore (after disembarking from the smaller boat), like any other passenger who'd left the ship at that stop, & was returning?
If I don't show up on time to board my flight, guess what? The plane is taking off without me. Simple as that.

They aren't going to put 2 passengers above the schedule of 4,000 passengers. This common knowledge.
I feel the 80 year old woman makes sense though, she’s on a walking stick she doesn’t move fast not to mention her mind probably doesn’t either much anymore she is the only one to be excused

The tour that they were on which was arranged by the ship was running late. The tour operator contacted the captain to let them know, but the captain refused to hold the ship. It's not like they were out shopping and got back to the ship late. I've seen plenty of those videos.

You wouldn’t show up to a store an hour after it closes and expect an employee to be there and let you in to do your shopping. Why on earth would these people expect the ship to wait for them AN HOUR after they should be on board? How entitled can you be?
Why on earth would the ship be there, that makes no sense. If a store is closed that store is empty and there wouldn't be any employees.

I worked in a fast food restaurant on New Years Eve one year when it landed on a Thursday and we closed at 12, not 1am like we did on Fridays and Saturdays. Had someone call at 12.40, wouldn't have answered if they didn't keep calling back to back, and then had a lovely aurgement with a group of drunk guys on the business hours of the establishment I had worked at for 4 years, literally like rage drunk screaming at me that it's a holdiay and we stay open later on holdiays. 😂
Not just cruises. I went on a three week bus tour of Europe, and when the tour guide said this is the time you need to be back on the bus, or we will leave without you, she wasn't kidding. Thankfully those who got left behind could easily catch a train and met back up with us in the next city.

If your late your late! Every passenger is specifically told you can not be late. Cruise ships have a tight schedule and must be on time at all times and they’re not going to let late passengers ruin it.
They were not abandoned. There's a strict departure time, boats do not wait. Same with airplanes, trains and buses. This happens all the time. 😅

How ridiculous. Unless one of them had a medical emergency then hell no I do not feel sorry for the passengers. This story shouldn’t have been blown up as it did. It should be a reminder to be on time or get there early and have drinks while you wait to board.
there was a lady that had a medical emergency actually, and some stayed behind to help her, and some were simply late cause they were old as hell and should have known better than to go for a stroll on a timer when they can barely walk

Why do four people get to delay the trip for the other 2996 passengers on board who all followed the rules.
My best friend used to work on the Dawn and if she was late they'd leave without her too. A cruise ship can't just stop and let a tender drop passengers.
If you have been on a cruise before, you know they don't play when they say be back by this specific time. If not, see you at the next port if you can get there.
If you don't book your excursion through the cruise line, they're not going to wait for you. This is made perfectly clear by the cruise lines.

The story was they hired a private tour to explore the island of Sao Tome. They were an hour late when they got back to the pier and realized they were left behind.
Really! You take a private tour , you get told you may miss the boat if you dont return on time. It is at your own risk.

the other people, if they missed the boat simply because they werent on time thats totally on them, and honestly, elderly people should know better then go explore an unkwon place with no help and a timer on. Bad choices made on both parts in this case

I worked as a translator in a tour operating company. Didn’t have anyone left behind but because I personally had to make sure I had all my people together. If some entitled tourist didn’t want to go by the rules, they were more than free to stay and find they’re way out of the jungle but we had a schedule to go by and staying late in the jungle was very risky and potentially dangerous.

Punctuality really matters when traveling!
A great example of how the media will create and then advance a false narrative. They were not “abandoned”, they were late to their cruise ship and it left without them. This would happen on any cruise line, or if you were late to a plane or train and so on. The other passengers do not deserve to be late because they couldn’t make sure they were on time.
They seem to think that everyone is supposed to put their lives on hold for them. Self privilege knows no bounds.
This is 100% the passengers fault.
I was in the Navy 6 years. Ships don’t wait. If you weren’t there they left. It’s called missing ships movement and it’s a serious offense.

What kind of corporate media hive mind is keeping this story alive for so long????? People get left behind all the time. This literally happened on the last cruise I was on in January. They weren't back on time, tour guide's fault or not!! End of story!!! They chose to take that non-cruise affiliated tour!!!!

They should've taken it up with the tour company, not the cruise line. When you book the excursion from a private company, you give the ship's debark and embark time as well as port location so theyre aware. The tour company made them late somehow so they should've been the one put on blast. When we booked a private excursion for one of our cruises, we made sure there was ample time to make it back to the port at least 1.5 hrs before the embarkation time in case something happened, knowing full well the ship wont wait for those late private tours.

@loosilu I don't know if you've ever booked an excursion, private or not, they can be very expensive per person. I tried digging for the name of the private tour company they used but it's not in any of the articles posting about this story. If we're talking Sao Tome and Principe, many of the excursions on Viator range $130 per person, plus tipping per person as a courtesy to your tour guide after. Tour companies can make quite a bit.
But bottom line is if you're late to boarding time, the cruise is NOT responsible for your travel expenses from one port to another, that's on you and your choice to book with a private tour.

Did this woman just say that their first top priority should be the safety and well-being of all their passengers well, guess what your first priority was making it back to that ship is 4000+ people on that boat you didn’t care about them but you want them to wait an hour for you Not only that there’s boat that has to after the cruise ship. They have to wait for you and even up to now these people still have no accountability. The only person that I feel any sympathy for is the woman who had the fall and ended up in the hospital. She’s the only person I feel bad for everybody else no accountability.

The lesson is You're on time when you're early and you're late when you're on time.
The promo for this story (before they reboarded), made it seem like they were abandoned on a deserted island, like Gilligan's Island, or Lost. It's inhabited, and the people seemed really nice. No offense, but if this was the worst experience of their lives, they've lived pretty nice, easy lives.
They did not follow the rules,. ThEIR fault they did not make embarkation time. The cruise line should do NOTHING to help them, especially financially.

Lesson… don’t be cheap, especially in remote places where language is not similar. Just pay for the ship sponsored excursions. They will wait if you do it through the ship. The ship didn’t abandon them!! The guests were being stupid!! You agree to their terms when you buy the cruise tickets. Victims of their own stupidity & being cheap. If you can’t afford ship excursions then you probably can’t affotd the cruise.
