What would cause a 5 year old child to have high hemoglobin (15.4), high hemocrit (45.4), high platelets (477), high potassium (5.2), high calcium (10.6) and high iron saturation (46%), normal ferritin levels? FYI she is well hydrated.

@@drneemabhathematologist Yea Mam, these rooms called Hamams remain warm as in winter wood is burnt in their underground portion/base that warms floor and inturn the entire room.becomes warm. May be oxygen level gets decreased, continued stay in these rooms could be a cause of low oxygen supply and the consequences

My hemoglobin is 17.4. It usually runs in the mid to upper 16s. Years ago (40 years) it was 18 a few times. I worked in a lab, and the pathologist told me to go donate a unit of blood. I have no symptoms. Is this something I need to check. I'm 62 now but did have a stent a few years ago although I'm quite healthy.

Blood disorders run in family; thalassemia beta, thrombocytopenia, aplastic anemia… personally have issues with abnormal CBCs, liver enzymes, (elevated), hx of celiac disease and have a peg tube due to severe esophageal scarring/swallowing difficulties; from chronic emesis and post excision of thyroid due to aggressively growing hurthle cell neoplasm. Been a roller coaster ride most of adult life. History of anemia due to chronic menstrual bleeding. That has normalized post hysterectomy. But the CBCs have hovered just elevated enough to give pause for concern; taking in account family medical history. So guess what? I’m being sent to a hematologist to rule out blood disorders/cancer. Already been to a geneticist. Yes, symptomatic, very worried life is about to get more complicated and expensive (more medical bills; as if I need more). I’m still working age but haven’t been able to work in 3 years.
I’m not trying to cheat death as I have already been close to death multiple times in the past 10 years. I know life is temporary but I want to be here for more years to come. However, I keep dodging these near death bullets. I’m tired of being worried! I’m tired of being poked and prodded! I’m going to get some answers but how much more do I have to go through to figure this out?! Frustrated and unwell. I just want my independence back 😢

My hemoglobin level 17.4 is it OK or higher side I am eating lot of protein rich diet .before 24 days my hemoglobin was 16.last time I donate platelets. 24 is high dont worry treatment can reduce the hb level .its leads to blood clot , increase thickness of blood, heart attack .stroke please consult a hematologist

Iam a non smoker...as a part of regular body check up observed high hb levels (19.1)..done phlebotomy 2 times...done some blood tests to find whether it's a genetic issue...but the blood tests are negative...what could be the possible reason...!?

No - I am not a doctor but have one of these conditions and study it quite a bit. Your Hemoglobin may be elevated due to elevation (were you in the mountains before being tested?). Or from smoking. Or from taking testosterone and related supplements. Anything that raises testosterone can raise a man's hemoglobin and HCT. I recommend you get retested and see what your results are then go see a hematologist if it is still elevated. Many weightlifters I have known had elevated HgB due to supplements they were taking. When I visited the mountains my HgB was very high afterwards.
Just a quick question. My hemoglobin is high and i have donated blood 4 times since 2 years to maintain it. Mu hemo doc tested all the mutation tests. All of them came negative. But wat might be the reason for high hemo. Plz let me know

You should mention your gender as normal range for HgB and HCT vary between men and women. If you're a man, all your numbers are normal except for HgB and you may have had a one time elevated number which can happen. Get retested and see what it says.
