Just a bump in the road on your way to success. One of the things that I have come to realize after over-the-road Trucking since the 70's, off and on, being 67 now. Keep your priorities where they need to be and that is your wife and looks like a son you won't regret the sacrifice putting the time in with them. Most important thing you can do. Any honest senior trucker will tell you the same thing. God Bless you brother.

Bait and switch happens to me working for a small company too. I dunno what it is about this industry but there is so much miscommunication if not outright lying. I never experienced anything like it until I got into trucking. Sad! You were smart to keep a backup plan in place. Can't trust anyone in trucking companies.

It's all about recruiters.. Ask anyone that's been in the service.. I can still remember marching around Lackland AFB and we were singing cadences.. Along came a flight of Rainbows (So called because they hadn't been there long enough to even get uniforms yet so they were every color you could imagine) and we pulled a cadence that went "Rainbow, Rainbow, don't be blue, My recruiter screwed me too.." These days I'm dealing with all these headhunters that "found your resume on Indeed.com and think you'll be a perfect fit for a position with "their" client. #1, THEY don't even have clients, they hope to get you signed on so they can sell their services to the company looking for the worker. #2, 95% of them are calling from outside the country, (Think Apu from SouthPark) and they're what I refer to as bobbleheads.. #3, the job they're trying to hook you up with isn't even listed as a skill you have on your resume!! Sorry for the rant.. I friggin hate recruiters.. I have an app on my phone called Trucaller and it allows me to comment on a call that came in, I can change the name that comes up on your screen when these guys call.. I change their names to Registered Pedophile, hopefully that works..

This happened to you AND ABOUT 5000 OTHER CDL A HOLDERS IN A HUNDRED DIFFERENT COMPANIES LAST WEEK ALONE. You were right to walk lest they brand you a desperate pushover and then the "fun" would really begin.
This is why there is a "Trucker Shortage" in a nation with 12 MILLION CDL A drivers and only around 5 million trucks on the road. It's not a "driver shortage," it's a "pay and respect" shortage by corporately run companies that view drivers as "an expendable commodity!"

I had a very similar situation with them about 5 years ago! I traveled all the way from PA to AR on a Greyhound (I'll never do that again).
I was going to be hauling glass (or that's what the recruiter said) kind of a local deal PA up to Canada and back... well after a trip to AR that took 37 hours. Their whole offer changed (job description, pay, etc.)
Idk if they thought they had me pinned down there or what but I hoped on a plane that day and flew back home...

I wish I would have ran across you prior to this happening to you. I could have given you the lowdown on Mav's history!
The big push anymore with all of the College Trained Steering Wheel Holders, is to rotate out any drivers that are close to collecting recruiting bonuses or milestone pay increases or performance bonuses. It's cheaper for them to hire newly graduated Steering Wheel Holders!
Prior to all the Community College Truck Driver classes, Maverick was basically an Owner Operator company. They didn't own any trucks. Now they get subsidised by the federal government for hiring from these schools. Companies like Maverick flourished only after the big push for more drivers by the Fed Gov. for open positions that actually didn't exisist!
Now if you went through the 6 week truck driver trading course you would have had many options to choose from.
I got lucky and started driving way before there was ever a CDL or even a chauffeurs license! I drove during the Outlaw Days and triple digit trucks owned the left lane!
My best advice for you would be too find an Owner Operator and look for a seat.
I graduated from the truckers school of hard knocks and a couple of million miles later with NO chargable accidents. I've loaded Cat parts in Peoria Ill at 2pm and was sitting in Denver Co. at 5am the next morning.
Stay safe bro and keep on trucking!

Went with Werner and stuck out their training and bailed over some shady shit they pulled. Training also takes longer than the Mega’s say, guaranteed. They got some good people but also a lot of vampiric types who can barely contain their disdain for drivers. I went to local flatbedding but moved back to OTR recently for better money. Trying to learn what I can about hotshotting on UA-cam. To be honest man the money seems the same everywhere. I just want to NET 1200-1400 a week consistently. People say that’s easy in trucking but a lot of people got small dicks and lie for attention so go figure. Don’t believe these ads from mega-carriers. The ones that pay well don’t advertise.

look over that PJ Trailer carefully before you put your money down and take it away. I purchased a 2017 PJ Trailer 7 by 14, 14000 pound dump. the seam in the middle of the bed is off by 1/8 in over 50% of the bed. the tailgate has a quarter inch Gap at the bottom of the dump gate and it spills sand and dirt. the welds on a good portion of the trailer are done sloppily. there was a wire pinched between the dump bed and the frame which I had to correct. there are protective O-rings missing where the wires go through the pump box of the trailer. I also own a 2006 model PJ dump trailer and the construction of that trailer was far better which is why I bought my second PJ Trailer that I now regret due to the drop in quality of workmanship.

I see both sides. As far as the company side goes I understand that driving a dually is nothing compared to driving a rig over the road with a 53-foot trailer or 48 foot trailer. Nothing wrong with going out for a trainer and getting some experience on that. However with that being said, all of your information on your application should be verified by the company before they invite anybody to an orientation the recruiter should send everything to HR HR should send it to whoever they need to send it to everything gets verified and then there's no Catch 22 at the end. If they would have called you on the phone and said after further investigation based on our company policies you don't qualify because of x y and z then at that time you could have made the decision what was best for you and your family and if going with the trucking company and get that experience was best for you you could do it and not get a surprise at the end. These trucking companies make no sense to me when they wait till the last minute to let people know that they're not qualified for whatever they were promised before they came out there.

But the truck drivers who moved into the building where I live, started out poor, stayed poor, and then left. Told you I heard bad things about them lol I got screwed over by a couple trucking companies lol One I drove to Indianapolis Indiana which is like 8 hours from me. They put me in a hotel spent a week in orientation. Then on the last day they pulled that same shit where when I asked about the sign on bonus I was told I wasn't getting it. Then when I told them that was the only reason I switched companies was for the higher pay in mileage and bonus and they said sorry I don't qualify for it unless I was willing to be a trainer. So I declined and they said find your own way home. The car i drove was a rental car they paid for and turned that in when I got their so I had to pay to get myself home.

It was the same story with 6 different companies I tried to hire on with. If you want to drive the big trucks your going to have to go through some kind of training program whether through a trucking company or a school and I'm hearing that they are working on trying to make it a 6 month to a 12 month class that all new drivers will have to go through. Unless you have a friend that is an O/O and you can get your experience and time in with your going to have to go to some kind of training program

That same company likely offer a lease to own program so they can get you to work for less and just give you a miled out truck after 7 years. Which market comparables put it at 35000 if your lucky, and it needs a 30000 engine overhaul eeek. They were hoping he was in a tough spot and would have to except their offer period.
