1966, in the Army in Texas, my girlfriend in Chicago...listening to this song together long distance. It's when I knew that i loved her. It didn’t last but the memory of that wonderful time never died.
“Motown” went head to head with “The British Invasion” and held their own. This song is Definately part of the Pantheon of Classic Motown Music. Thanks for sharing
Unforgotten Motown recording in phenomenal Wollaton quality. The background choir was made up of Telma Hopkins and Joyce Vincent, who later formed the group Dawn with Tony Orlando. The piccolo flute was played by Dayna Hartwick, her very first recording session at the age of 13.
🎧👍👍 Okay, I'm just having some fun with this. I can picture him just skrieking in Bernadette's ear how much he loves her. Good mix, Pat. @radiowollaton8521
Nicely Done ! The Four Tops Were My All Time Favorite Group From The Motown Sound Of The 60's , Love The Ending You Put To This Song , Thank You For Posting
When I first heard it I thought to myself , " What Is This ? ' , But suddenly I thought " Yeaaaaah this IS really cool sounding ! Thanks for leaving it in my friend ! @@radiowollaton8521
Berry Gordy and the writers had Levi Stubbs at the top of his vocal range to get this ‘strained, shouty/singing type vocal (Bob Dylan type delivery) which at first he wasn’t happy with and when Gordy surprised the Four Tops with news this was the next single, they were aghast. Surprising as this is such a great single from the first listen and had to be the big hit it was. Love the backing details on your mix Pat such as rhythm guitars and realising there are are females in the backing vocals as well as the three Tops. Classic!

Splendid remix of the best tune of this group. French version the same year by Claude François - J'Attendrai. 👍👌😊
Just had a listen. Interesting version, well recorded, with good sound quality.
