I had the same happened to me. Mudfish tore out the part that holds the split ring and hook. Glued a new spline into the lure and a second mudfish did the same thing. I keep a loose drag all the time. Use my thumb on the spool mostly. It is still fun and exciting. 😅

One thing I’ve found really helpful for bigger swim baits is changing from split rings to heavy braided line to hold the hooks to the bait. They let the hook twist a lot more than split rings so that the fish can’t leverage the hooks out with the weight of the bait.
