    More like a Piper Archer than a Piper Arrow I would say. The Arrow is retractable w/constant speed prop. This plane is basically an Archer with fixed gear, fixed prop, Lycoming 180HP.

      That's like the cessna150 I saw on trade a plane. 9800+ hrs TT airframe, close to 1k hrs on the engine . Most of the nav
      stuff , and asking 40k$ and this was a '69 model.

      I thought it sounded very reasonable, remember its a business that air frame will make plenty of cash during its life time as a trainer, cheap when compared to say a Sirus sr22 !!! Just a thought why don't more plane manufacturers fit air frame parachutes ?

    • @TheMachSR7
      @TheMachSR7 3 роки тому +6

      Considering this airframe first flew in 1960 both old Piper and New Piper have got a pretty good return out of the original R&D (32,700+ airframes sold). Apart from the tapered wing what real changes have there been since 1961? If it wasn't for the litigious nature of US society and therefore the need for very expensive product liability insurance this aircraft would be much less costly. There would be many new and more up to date airframes being designed/developed in the certified market.

    Archer, Not Arrow. The Arrow has a retract landing gear. I wish you could have gotten over to the Archer next to the Piper Pilot 100i. Thank you for the review.

    Here is my beef. I buy run out Cherokee 140/160s. I look for crap paint, avionics, interior and engines. I then replace all of the above. 90% of the time I’m at around 100-110k bucks. All in. It is a steep price. But when I’m done I have a plane that looks, smells, and flies like new. I now have 11 of them in lease backs making around 130% of the mortgage each month. All in southern or western states. Gotta love the year round weather there. They go as fast, feel the same, and maint wise are almost the same ast this new Piper 100i. I’m torn as to what the advantage is. My goal is 20 planes. At that number I can pay off a plane every few years and when ready sell them all. While I won’t get my money back I’ve Essentially not paid anything for them.
    Is there an advantage to buying a plane like the 100i. I really feel there is not. EVEN when you factor in the spar AD there are so many that where never in flight schools and training environments that I don’t have to worry about that expense.

      @@sleektruck22 sort of. Basically the profits are all kept in a account used specifically for maintaining them. Like any plane they will and always need some tlc every month. It’s a brake even deal until planes start getting paid off. Two of the schools flying four of the planes on average about 100-120 hours a month. So engines go quick.

    • @catherineburton195
      @catherineburton195 3 роки тому

      It’s a good decision. No seats prevents a back seat student; a common technique when in the advanced stages of pilot training, as the back seater will learn almost as much from exposure to a study buddy’s training as the front seat student. Typically, they’ll fly and back seat leg and leg about.
      Two back seats, on the other hand, isn’t relevant in a school environment, as the PA28 range has always been capable of two adults plus two kids, or three adults. Also, whereas the one instructor/two students scenario is common, 1/3 is not.

    • @MarkThomas-yy4dk

    This should be a $150k plane. Like all certified GA, everything is about 1.5-2X the price of what it should be- A Bonanza or Cirrus is now $1mm. It needs to come down by a huge margin to make it work. A Bonanza in 1970 was, price-adjusted, $300k loaded... Now it's 3X that- sure, avionics are better, but $600K better, price-adjusted? Last I checked, we have a problem. Plane builders like Cirrus or Textron (Cessna/Beechcraft) are building entry-level planes to the very rich, getting them to move into their turboprops/jets in time- that's the business model. They don't care about GA- just eventually selling turbine-engine planes to the very wealthy.

    Well, it's an old design but 298 is pretty good for certified with half decent glass panels. It's uninspiring interior design but it's modern white, not soul robbing Ewing oil beige.
    In the oceans of things that are horrendously wrong with GA, one is that the radio and autopilot aren't integrated in the main glass panel. Having separate units is unworthy of 2021. Profoundly so. And disgusting excuses to overcharge for the crude equipment. The main display should also be vastly bigger and closer to the pilot. The little backup G5 could also be better but it's not the worst. It serves its purpose. The obvious primary redundancy would be just two large identical panels. A prepared phone could be a 4th completely independent from the plane. The G5 role could also be a pop out unit. It really doesn't need dash space or being constantly on. Just two clean primaries.
    So so much wrong with GA, it's terrible. How have they all been absent for 50 years. How

    • @dieselyeti
      @dieselyeti 2 роки тому +1

      The bland interior is because it's intended for the training market, and they need interiors that hold up to students climbing in & out all day long. Everything else you mention comes from the 100i being cost-driven.
