I am a little older than you but I remember when V-8 Vega’s were the hot set up but you young man have set this one up pretty good! Keep up the great work
Love this series !! Giving some love to an old veteran from the 70's. The choice of a 4.3 ,for this dirty ole' bastard has been approved. can't wait to see the final results !!!
very cool, I built a 72 GT Vega with a 327 4-speed back in 1977 and I was stumped as to why it kept dying. then I found out about the oil pressure/ fuel switch......lol
Parents had a 77 Astre wagon back in the day which i drove quite a bit, but I always wished it was an early GT. Really cool find, lots of potential. Nice build!
You’re pretty creative guy Pender. Keep up the good work. Look forward to the next video. I wish you were working on an S10 V8 conversion like me. Then I could follow along with you.
It seems like it should be 50/50 on the 180 out, it seemed when I did it was 100% of the time out. Often enough where I suppose I should have just taken it out and turned it 180 before I even tried it. Cool project good luck with it.
Wow, it's been years since I even thought about a vega. My Grandpa had a pile of these cars. All of em were that same orange color. My oldest sister got her license and was in need of a car. Grandpa and his neighbors picked the best body (77 wagon) and put that on the road in one day from parts from the others. By that I mean engine from one, trans from another etc etc. And she drove it home. This was in 1984. She HATED it, (I thought it was cool!) and tore it up almost immediately. Grandpa fixed it three times before finally washing his hands of it. I don't know what eventually happened to the car. I would've loved to have had it. Even more since cancer took him on Easter of 88..
got me hooked brother...I'm a new subscriber with my own projects [383 70 dodge Monaco..finished and a 68 Chevy Biscayne 90% done]...but now i want a Vega!!..lol
Pender, is one of my favorite Gemfire [NES] characters, lol. Just as long as you keep him on the front lines that is. My username comes from the same game.
Btw a muriatic acid wash cost about 10 bucks and works extremely well at de rusting gas tanks, and it’s biodegradable. 1 gallon plus a gallon of water and swish like you did with chains
I guess equal opportunity cylinder would be too much to say, I have one on my NV4500 trans, really impressive how you figure it all out, don't know how you do it, but very interesting.
It sounds good. I know a 4.0 v6 randger will burn the tires. My grandpa use to run these v6 chevys in chevy mini trucks. I wish I could or knew how to make a v8 out of my ranger. And keep the AC.
I wouldn't mess with those heads at all. You will be much happier and much less hassles by buying a set of aftermarket aluminum heads. That open gasket on the intake side by side ports doesn't scream performance at all, it is a weak point on those heads
you aren't using a 3.8 Chevy V6 distributor are you? The 3.8 Chevy V6 is a "semi even fire" and the 4.3 V6 Chevy is an even fire. You can use that distributor by changing out the pickup from a Buick 3.8 V6 distributor. It is also a semi even fire and that's why we love GM, interchangeability of parts. It will melt pistons , trust me even if it runs and it will, you will melt pistons on 1 bank.

I loved the Vega and thought about a 4.3 mounted in the wagon version.
Your approach on this conversion has reignited my interest. 😊

Should be a cool little car.
Clever solution for the clutch throw. I also like your fuel tank cleaning method!

those are cool cars, I feel like they are underrated in the classic car world. Thanks for subscribing!
Monaco's are awesome. The Blues mobile flavor is my favorite. The 440 sport Fury's are super underrated. Especially the police package cars.
4.3 will be fine, I have owned a bunch of S-10s and Blazers with them. A good friend used to run a race car with one .
Ya that’s a pre performer, performer. That’s a great intake actually. Great low and mid range torque

That corner edge on the ports will help atomize fuel

Could’ve used gm parts from an s10. Everyone I know with v8 vegas and monzas use 82 s10 master and slave cylinders
@@IowaBudgetRCBashers I honestly just used them because I already had them.
Vega is the only american built car with a carb that had an electric fuel pump
Call it what it is… a hydraulic slave and master cylinders… it was a p i t a in my 72 TR6, but my 73 Nova SS runs a mechanical spring system
