      Yes! One issue I found in Alabama, at least as recent as 2021 was that when it comes to permits and funding, the tiny house wasn’t able to be permitted and mortgaged and insured or in these cases made legal for living- I didn’t go far into why, but was told this when I wanted to go look at a property listing that was tiny home, and the state above me just a few min drive, is totally doing it successfully-

      Dream Chaser Thank you for caring to inquire.
      I was able to utilize several veteran programs called SSVF (Supportive Services for Veteran families), Easter Seals, and United Way and Wounded Warrior Project (Registered Alum) and SUS (Services for the Underserved).
      I also stayed at several temporary veteran transitional housing shelters.
      I am a very resourceful and mentally tough person. I currently have survival gear in my car in the event I would have to live outdoors or in my car again. (Tent, sleeping bag, crank flash light, etc).
      I would take my showers at the gym as I had a monthly membership and I would eat at various local soup kitchens.
      The non profit organizations provided grants that give homeless veterans a “one shot deal” meaning the grants will cover 1 month security and 1 months rent.
      They want to know that you have either a secure job or stable income to support yourself going forward to prevent a reoccurrence of homelessness.
      I am happy to report I am no longer homeless, currently work for the IRS and I am actually in the early stages of buying my first home in Charlotte NC.

      God should bless the people in the countries they invaded not the invader who are the vets. Do you always bless those committing a crime and ignore the victim? The vets you admire were mercenaries. They were paid. They are not even idealistic. Would they have fought if they were not getting paid? What does 'Fight for America' mean anyway? Those who fight for social and economic justice? How are the vets any more important than the Police risking their lives to protect everyone? Vets were paid to cause death and destruction.
      PS-Vets have many entitlements and benefits. Many people do not have anything. Giving vets free housing is prejudiced and its favoritism.

Many of the homeless vets are from that era. At the time, 18 year olds were NOT even considered adults, for that you needed to wait 3 more years. When there are few jobs, your choice is to live off welfare or join the military. Not a good choice. The system is set up so if you are low income, you stay low income, while the corporate interest make the money for not doing much. Too bad UA-cam doesn't allow thumb down, people's feeling could get hurt. You would have gotten hundreds of them. Thumbs down from me.

      You still have anger issues. My father joined WWII when he was 16, with a permission slip from his mother. Found copy through the Freedom of Information Act. So I was an Army brat. I had nothing against the soldiers, just the sick people forcing them to fight a unjust war, all the way in the other side of the planet, against a people who were still in the stone age. And get this, my family is still a military family, after 78 years. And being that my grandson, is the child of mother and father Air Force, which means that is the only life he knows, I bet he will continue the traditions. Got take your meds and stop jumping to conclusions. My dad, got himself a Silver Star among many other medals for fighting in WWII, Korea and Vietnam. He saw many deaths in all those wars, but he did what he did because he believed in the US and I did what I did because I believed in justice. By the way, my only brother, finally got over that war when he was 67 and made a decision to stop drinking cold turkey. I know plenty about war. My dad gave me a copy of the Art of War when I was still in elementary school and he taught me to box when I was a little girl of 6. Broke the nose of the school bully when I was 8, he was 12 and thought is was the perfect target. Let just say, after that his bully phase ended. Not to many people fear some creep beaten my a little girl, and he became the target. Next time ask first. I was born and raised a warrior. I fought against the war, until we WON and the US had to leave Vietnam. Who know how many thousand of people would have died if it had continued. I really cared about my friends being forced to go or go to jail. No need to tell me that. I know. Like I said, I was an Army brat and all the men in my family, asides my son were also, he decided to join the Air Force and go to war, multiple times. The base was attacked because they ran the radars, so they were very important in the safety of everyone else. Go preach to someone who has not been military all her life. By the way, my father spend 6 months in Walter Reed following a bomb that exploded near him. Sure you know what that is.

    • @keeperodinson3306
      @keeperodinson3306 5 років тому

      @@gregm8871 You'd be surprised at how many hoops you have to jump through to get those home loans. And it's not the military directly but the VA which, while military, runs on a whole different program, and is more of a hurdle to go through. Also, many times these homeless vets DID have houses and those VA loans prior to becoming homeless. There are so many factors in which our society has screwed over our Vets, that making a statement like that shows that you are not aware of how badly our people need our help. Equally there are many who due to medical reasons were not able to hold down a civilian jobs, and their disability check does not cover enough to keep a roof over their head. So a housing development like this that allows them that "luxury" and provides outreach and training to learn once again how to be a part of the society they are now living in, is BEYOND words for how wonderful and helpful this is. Lastly, if you paid attention, this is not intended to be a forever home. This is designed to be that stepping stone to get them to a point where they CAN "take the initiative and themselves" as you so curtly put it.
      Just the unrequested two cents of an active duty Sailor who HAS BEEN HOMELESS and wants to see my brothers and sisters have a chance to live life to its fullest, and not "living" on the streets.

      @@keeperodinson3306 I understand what you're saying - I myself just got done with closing on a home loan through the VA, that's why I'm referring to it. I wasn't saying this is a permanent solution, but that the military and the VA set people up when discharging so these sort of things shouldn't happen. A lot of it is on the verts as much as it is on the VA. People are failing to plan for anything.
      There are a few hoops, but it seems that most people negatively affected by it have made previous mistakes that hold them back from home ownership. if your credit is less than average then not even the VA will want to work with you, but they'll try.
      I'm get it dude. I was previously active duty, a combat medic/paratrooper, and am partially disabled now. My wife is AD and just got through with two years as a drill sergeant. We were also previously homeless, together, years before the Army.

      It always amazes me how the loud, obnoxious, self absorbed jewish community can find all kinds of money to build endless, massive, monuments to themselves, everywhere and how they are constantly whining at the top of their lungs about the war and how apparently, they were the only ones to die during the war, in the holocaust, but they cannot be bothered to find any money to build a few monuments to thank the WW2 veterans for their sacrifice and for saving the jews, or spend some money to help the aging WW2 veterans with affordable housing or hospitals. I mean these are the real life war heroes that risked their lives and suffered endless horrors during WW2 and rescued the jews from the Nazis. It is typical and no surprise that the jewish community cannot be bothered look past their own noses and say THANK-YOU to those men and women that saved them, let alone offer to help them with affordable housing or their medical needs. Clearly the jews are more interested in talking about themselves as loud as possible, all day, every day, everywhere they can, because it's all about me, me, me, I am the chosen one and you deplorables are not worth bothering about, let alone saying thank-you for saving our life! Of course you have to remember these are same delusional people that actually have the nerve to run around claiming God himself, actually dropped by a few times, to talk to a few jewish guys, about 2 thousand years ago, and told them they are 'the chosen ones' and I mean, of course if the jews say it happened, it must be true right... it's not as if the jews would ever lie. They really are an incredibly ungrateful jewish community and they wonder why the jews have been (and still are) hated by so many people all over the world. Haaaah! Cheers to these impressive folks that took the time, made the effort and actually made the world a better place by giving to others, just because it was a nice thing to do... they are real heroes!

This is a great idea for vets that have fallen through the cracks and need a temporary helping hand to get back on their feet. A roof over your head and a place to eat and clean up is essential to help get reemployed. In Toronto my first home was called a "war home", they were houses that were built for all the returning soldiers after WW2, there are millions of them in the city, countless neighbourhoods, they are all around 800 square feet and until the 2000's they were very affordable, I as a 26 year old with a new family was very easily able to afford my first home. Now they build new homes a minimum 2300 square feet and those war homes are now a Million Dollars to buy. The world is messed up, there needs to be projects like this on a grand scale, not just for Veteran's but for young people to begin a good prosperous life.

    • @flyingdutchman6984
      @flyingdutchman6984 4 роки тому +2

      I don't know how many Strawberry Box Homes the Wartime Housing Corporation built in Toronto, but they built close to fifty thousand of these homes across Canada. They were not necessarily built for returning soldiers, but rather built as low income rental units. Maybe a lot were rented by soldiers, but that was not their sole purpose. Around 1946-47 the Wartime Housing Corporation became Central Mortgage and Housing, and began selling the units for approximately what would be $150,000 today.
      I absolutely agree the government needs to spend more focus on affordable housing. My son rents a one bedroom apartment that cost him over fifty percent of his income. When I was his age I spent roughly twenty percent of my income on housing. If people are given cheaper housing they will spend the money they save somewhere else, helping the overall economy.
      Because of your comment I looked up what I could buy for a million dollars in Toronto. I was shocked to say the least. Money certainly doesn't go very far in Toronto real estate nowadays.

How can the American military spend money so much all over the world and not actually take care of its military people. Here in China our military people get taken care of, it is not luxury but medical, education and housing is basic. It is not without some wrangles with local officials, but charity is not and should not be needed. Plus healthy vets allow for the military to expand quickly if needed suddenly. I hope they don't. They need to get rid of zoning laws which makes the houses expensive to begin with.

    The homeless vets are our best of the forgotten! Remember they want to feel like they're doing something, not just staying in a tiny home. You guys are angels! Thanks for what you do.

    As a 74 year-old Vietnam army Veteran, I am really impressed. What a great thing you are dong for homeless vets. Every city in America should be on board with this. It's way past due.

    I love that the the Vets training was taken into account when designing the houses, Low beds, Single entry point etc. I wish I could be part of something like this, This is awesome!

      I know right? I was thinking the same thing.... this is exactly how I was living on a FOB just 3 years ago. Despite all the ugliness of war and the sacrifice of my brothers I kinda miss having that sense of purpose and comradrey. I'd love to live among my brother like this in my final days.

    These are the pretties tiny houses I've seen. So pretty, so practical, cosy, the have all the things necessary for a living and feel like a real home. Great job!

      @Adena Properties you know, it does make one Wonder... Why in California if you cross the border illegally, you get house, food and your kids go to school free... But if you're a homeless vet, they just point you to the nearest homeless shelter... It has to be for the votes right?

    Its great that they built all these houses for the veterans and whats more important is that the veterans actually want to live in them.
    They should build way more of these places.
    A lot of people on the verge of being homeless.
