Great info. Did you check the inside corner you marked on the first property ( between field and swamp)? It looked like a funnel to me. I like those areas during the rut.
NManitou I didn’t. I had hunted just south of that. The west side gets hit hard due to the access. I was just using that set up as an example of how I might ID a place to start and walk in. But you’re right, potentially a good rut funnel/terrain feature minus the pressure.
Hello new sub here. Got a question about a piece of public land in SW Missouri. It's a piece where lots of public access but no hunting till first week of November it's a managed hunt 700 acres with 35 bowhunters. I've killed 2 deer one button buck thought was a small doe and a good size doe. I had an encounter with a decent 8 point buck but no shot. We know there have been a couple giants killed out of there. Finally my question there is a long ridge on the east side with lots of hollers and a bottom on the west side. Lot of the guys hunt the ridge and back of property. So where would you hunt on this piece? Wind is either a south or north wind. I've hunted the bottom because I can see I've never looked for sign only heavy used deer trails. It's called Bicentennial Park in Neosho, Mo if you want to look at it on a map. I've only killed 1 good buck in my life and that was by luck. Lol. Any advice would be apperciated. I like your pods with Dan Infalt and guests I'm learning a Lot trying to get a starting place for this season.
Personally I wouldn’t hunt it. Too much walking and parking access. I’d head south to big sugar creek.

Been listening to your podcasts for a long time now and just now watching some of your videos. I noticed in the video you were hanging a trail camera about 8 feet above ground level. I have been hanging around 5-6 feet and putting a stick in the top to aim it down a little (depending on where I am wanting to focus the camera. Do you think the deer are less spooked with the camera higher and is that why you are putting it up that high? Thanks for your help!
I think in high pressure states deer do notice cameras. That's been my personal experience. I also hunt almost all public land and hanging them high keep them out of eye sight of people...they're usually looking down for sign/watching where they're stepping and not up trees. Less likely to get stolen.
@@truthfromthestand9994 Thanks. I'm trying to find some decent cameras that aren't expensive that do well taking photos with a short frequency, say 15 seconds or less. Many of my cheap cameras I put in video mode so I can see where they are coming from and what they are doing as well as if there is more than 1 deer with them. Any thoughts on less expensive cameras that have a good photo mode with quick response? Thanks, Rob.
