    Great information thanks for doing the video. One comment can you explain where you would set up based on the wind. For example when you put a blue pin down just explain where you expect the deer to come from and what way you expect the wind to come from. I’m new to all of this so trying to wrap my brain around it all. Thanks again keep up the great work you’re doing.

      Thank you very much for the feedback! Setups are often determined in the boots on the ground portion. They depend largely on visibility from the bed, where the exit/entry trails are, satellite bedding, etc. I show that in the boots on the ground portion (videos are done, just need Dan to upload them when he gets time)

    This is an awesome video. Great job Jacob. Have you ever used the Shaded Relief feature on CalTopo? I’ve learned that with that feature I can see some points in hill country on a map that I can’t on most regular topos. I’d be happy to share some photos

    • @jacobsklenar4731

      I do! Shade relief is extremely clutch in finding the tiny, tiny knobs. I use a combination of a few filter settings. One being heat mapping and another with more emphasized shaded relief.

      Thanks Robert! You can also use the range tool to mark a lot of points along a logging road and get a visual representation of where people are likely to setup if you assume they’re within x amount of yards (say 300) of an easy access route. This helps a bunch for finding uncommonly reached areas

  • @johnfatorich3494

    Great demonstration on how you mark out high percentage areas and how you approach accessing these areas. Choosing alternate access routes depending on wind direction can be difficult to determine depending on topography. Suggestions on doing this would be appreciated if possible. Thanks for sharing.👍

    • @jacobsklenar4731

      That’s a great thing to cover. I’ve had issues with this in the past, but I’ve found sometimes you gotta just buckle down, bring trek poles, and grit it up the steep hills of the easier access blows your wind into bedding. I’ve actually used rope tied around trees to get up and down bluff edges to avoid my wind blowing into bedding areas

    • @thehuntingbeast
      @thehuntingbeast  2 роки тому +2

      You have to look at the benches and physically look for the sign. Often they are not as fixated on the leeward side of huge mountains, nut more leeward side of bench points...

  • @Adam-by8sn

    After hearing enough Dan kill stories, I also set my radius at 1/4 mile from the parking structures - but then I hunt them. Don’t forget the overlooked spots just off the road!
    Anyways, I enjoy your content and feel it’s very worthy of being on the Beast Channel. I like your analytical approach. Videos like this are why I fell in love with Beast content in the first place. You managed to organize Dan’s approach of picking apart new terrain using mapping features and a step-by-step procedure. That’s very applicable to any hunter, especially those who hear Dan talk but do better with visual models like myself (or they are too distracted by his t-shirts).
    Hope you qualified! Cheers.

      Yeah, makes sense man, I am still kind of salty about naming property like Fort McCoy, like was done earlier in the year. Sorry for my frustrations man.
      Many of the people were not happy when am actuality property was listed earlier in the year. In a previous video. Something like naming fort McCoy was to specific. Not your issue.
      I try and help people in my channel too, but it’s an ethical debate on how much to give away. Keep doing you! Appreciated the feedback!

    • @jacobsklenar4731
      @jacobsklenar4731 2 роки тому

      @@RedBeardedPredators I gotcha man no worries. I appreciate your willingness to help others as well. There's definitely good and bad aspects to it. I think if any property was to be named, one that closes in certain areas throughout the year, has a lot of acreage, and requires purchase of an extra tag along with additional inconveniences would be the best option. It's kind of unprecedented to name the place beforehand and then break it down because it shows extreme confidence in your tactics and allows people to apply the things they learn directly. However, I completely agree that it brings a lot of pressure and really sucks for the people that have hunted those spots for many years. Like I said, double edged sword.
