This was the during the highpoint of covid (September 2020). So they couldn't travel to the original studio. So they made this to emulate the feel. They rebuilt the original set almost to the tee for when RM did his Tiny Desk Concert. During covid they rebuilt so many stages. The Grammy stage, James Cordens office etc...
this Tiny Desk performance was during covid lockdowns; the set was pulled together in S. Korea. thanks for reacting to our guys, they lit! "Spring Day" is about loss and longing, more specifically, the Sewol ferry tragedy (2014), when over 300 people slowly drowned (*mostly high school kids on a short trip)... and it was preventable. it was also a highly documented event. the overloaded ferry started taking in water and the captain kept telling everyone to stay in their cabins (the kids obediently did, trusting their care in the hands of the adults) while he and his crew abandoned ship, lying about the hundreds of souls still trapped alive inside it. the kids, with their phones, videoed what was happening in the ferry as they waited and water began filling their cabins (they were either sending vids to their parents, some saying their last goodbyes, some looking for their parents' comfort; their phones and shoes were among the only things left of them later found at the bottom of the sea). many parents were at the docks helplessly and desperately watching a mishandled situation happen slowly in real time (several parents committed suicide, unable to live with the grief). the father of one frightened yet brave boy posted his son's inevitable last moments on social media because the gov at the time kept trying to silence the parents, entertainers, or anyone who spoke out about it (the then-president was eventually impeached after a country-wide outcry). it was heart-wrenching, to say the least. BTS released the song about 3 years after the tragedy as a way to keep alive the memory of this event and those lost. these were kids not much different in age to Jungkook, who was only around 16 y/o when it happened.
The theme for Dynamite was the 70s so they're wearing retro clothes. You have to have been living under a rock in 2020 to have missed this so it's not surprising that you've heard it before. I think you've Jimin-ed so I hope you know there's now no way to Jim-out. Oh dear, when you said that spring was the signal for happy times I thought you're in for a shock. Spring Day is the most heartrending song. It is linked to the Sewol Ferry disaster. Koreans have found comfort in this song following the loss of so many young lives due to criminal incompetence.
BTS specialise in confounding expectations by putting deep lyrics in a bright music setting, songs like Go Go & Apanman for example sound like banging pop songs but then when you learn about the lyrics & Korean context it behind it, it’s a whole another level. Or with a song like Pied Piper where BTS simultaneously flirt with & admonish ARMYs. They also use a brighter tone sometimes to ease socio political or class themes like Baepsae, Am I Wrong etc There’s a whole lot to admire about this group if you’re willing to explore more.
That makes sense, gives it a lot of mass appeal. And that definitely explains the feel on Save Me, it sounded a little on the happier side haha! And I'll be exploring quite a bit more!
@@swaveworld BTS is actually known for making some sad songs that somehow has a smidge of brightness - as if even in the darkest point of light, you will find a little bit of hopeness. It can e.g. be a note or a word.
I want to point out two things 1. How quick you actually pressed play 2. You look so young but you also look like you have a very warm and caring soul. Glad I found your channel ❤
I like to get right into it! And thank you, I agree with your second point 100% haha. True, true and true! I'm glad you found the channel. Welcome! 💯💯💯

Wow. That's crazy! Thank you for the background on that, just from the lyrics I would be have guessed it was something that tragic being the catalyst.
