  • Many elements play into the success of Red Bull Stratos, but it is safe to say the conditions of the balloon make up a large portion of when and where the launch can occur.

    why ? do you know when the actuall jump is ?

  • @JMChladek
    @JMChladek 12 років тому

    Because designing a rocket and capsule system to just go to 120,000 feet is likely more expensive and has a whole different set of risks and variables which compounds the problem of successfully stepping off into the unknown and freefalling. Plus, a slow ascent gives time to test the equipment to make sure it is working before taking the plunge. Thousands of balloons of this type have been flown since the 1950s (with heavy payloads) and launching them is well understood.

    Why not use hydrogen?

    • @CombraStudios

      Hydrogen molecules are so small that they escape through the fabric at a rate too high to provide the flight all up

    • @AngelLestat2
      @AngelLestat2 6 років тому +1

      +CombraStudios Your answer is wrong in many ways.
      First.. helium atoms are smaller than hydrogen atoms:
      en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atomic_radius#Calculated_atomic_radii
      Helium = 31 pm and Hydrogen = 53 pm
      But it does not end there, helium is an inert gas so exists only as single helium atoms, but hydrogen is a diatomic molecule H2, .
      The length of the hydrogen bond is 74pm, this give us that the radius of h2 is 90 pm vs 31pm from helium.
      So h2 is 3 times bigger than helium, This is why helium diffuses faster than H2 through solids and also leaks faster through small passages.

    will i dont have this money like they do, and while i dont have to till u what i did for them will i do what i can for the closest person who need help, and just try to imagine what you will fee if you were in those Africans situation, starving and walking naked and people can see ur bones from ur body while people and companies spending millions of doller for a high jump, and ur comment is completely negative.

  • @AngelLestat2

    *they could have save a lot of money in balloon and lifting gas if they would have been used hydrogen.*
    At 10000 m hydrogen can not ignite due the lack of oxygen..
    And it would be super rare that it will ignite meanwhile they are launching the ballon, even if ignite in some moment, it would not explode, just burn, if he is in the sky, he can jump.. if he did not take off, nobody would be harm..
    Hydrogen fear is reaching the higher levels of stupidity..

    • @CombraStudios
      @CombraStudios 6 років тому +1
