Andy finds herself in a deadly situation while tracking a known child abductor who recently escaped the hospital, after an emergency visit. However, Katie is not the child he wants. John wants contact with his first victim Alice, but Andy is not going to let that happen.
From Season 3 Episode 13 "I Never": When a familiar child abductor escapes from an emergency hospital visit, the rookies from 15 Division try and track him down before he claims another victim. The abductor snatches another girl in an attempt to reunite him with his previous victim. Andy and Swarek find themselves in a deadly situation with a grenade. Meanwhile, Chris's new family obligations have him contemplating transferring divisions.

And here we see; two people that don't understand that grenades have a larger effective range than you can throw them. And in a concrete basement that force is amplified 300 fold

I've held a grenade my brother had told me he had pulled the lever from it and me a seven year old crying holding it together for dear life. After my mum found me crying and him laughing I found out it was a practice. I still hate him.

They make it out like you have to squeeze the grenade hard to keep that spoon from flinging. I get that they were building drama & all, but this was a bit over the top. A simple paperclip through the pin guides (what the dude did at the end) would have been more than enough to "safe" the device.

Any explosion In a hospital has the potential to ignite EVERY flammable chemical in the place, including oxygen lines, that run through the ENTIRE building to supply machines. So yeah, in a hospital/lab setting a grenade might as well be something stronger, for all the fallout damage it could cause.

I feel like I would have just thrown the grenade in the freezer, and had someone else close the door to protect everyone from shrapnel and mitigate the shockwave. I suppose that isn't really proper police procedure though, is it?

Granted it's a Fragmentation grenade but in this situation Frag isn't your only worry. In a confined space blast over pressure is just as dangerous.
Could throwing it in the freezer be survivable most likely yes, but it could also produce a rebounding Shockwave that causes every blood vessel in your eyes and ears to rupture.

It's an M-67 fragmentation grenade. Just clear a stairwell and toss it in there. It'll scratch and scorch paint . Or find a piece of thick wire and replace the pin. Relax. Geez!
Possibly if the stairwell was far enough away from the fridge and freezer as commercial ones use gas to cool them and they don’t know where the gas lines are right then and there.

I don’t get why they didn’t throw the grenade into the industrial freezer, slam the door shut, and run the insulation would have absorbed most of the shockwave and shrapnel and since the freezer is so big the freezer won’t break into a million pieces

I think it was set for more seasons from memory but then they axe it due to viewing numbers or something.
