It is the Impulse Deflection Crystal. It is the top of the warp core and it is supposed to channel power from the warp core into the impulse engines for greater speed and efficiency. Without it, the impulse drive has to rely upon fusion reactors, which limits its performance.

If I remember correctly, the Constitution Refit was the first Fed ship to install it's Warp Core vertically as opposed to horizontally so what you hit, if I'm correct, was the top of the warp core.

The Enterprise B's design was still being used when the Enterprise D came out. I am surprised that with the A's help it wasn't able to win. But I really love the Enterprise C, I think that it is a beautiful ship so I am glad it won.

The A was doing fairly well against the C up until you decided to fire the phasers manually. now the question becomes, would the A and B win if you were to reverse your roles and play as one of them.
Is that an upgraded Ambassador class? As the Phaser strips are the one continuous band on the dorsal and ventral saucer section rather than the staggered version which they should be.

I think it's generally accepted that most torpedoes are too small, and fly too fast to be targeted by phasers. In STO you can only target specific, heavy torpedoes that are larger and move a lot slower.
That's not the actual Ambassador Class Enterprise C, the warp engines are totally wrong, there is NO impulse engines on the nacelle pylons, and the navigational deflector is totally wrong. You can do an image search in Google and see the actual model of the ship and other images as well, and you will see the difference. The ship you are using is some ones modified ship, NOT the actual Enterprise C
Star Trek Legacy is another Space Combat Game. There's the Starfleet Command Series as well. If you like FPS there's the Elite Force Series. Or as Revkor has stated, Star Trek Armada is worth a go!
I was a bit flabbergasted, maybe 30 years ago. I picked up the FASA ST-TNG (I guess it was for the first season if there were others?) STSCTS sourcebook. Now, I'm a number cruncher, so I already knew that a lot of the original vehicle templates were illegal, by FASA's own rules (not so much a problem in battletech 3025, the only thing there that sticks to mind is the Orion's weird extra half-ton of SRM ammo. It didn't make the 'Mech overweight, and they rounded down, so no big, but it was technically illegal. "Only machine gun ammunition may be added in half-ton increments" or some such. A lot of the starships in the FASA STSCTS blatantly broke FASA's own rules. That said, I was a number cruncher. Go figure! Still am. Makes me good at games like that. Something directly forward of an Excelsior class ship (Enterprise-B, we presumed at the time. We learned that we were correct later.) Would actually be outmatched in direct forward firepower by any post-refit Constitution (for Example Enterprise-A) (We weren't exactly sure that they were still called Constitution class ships at the time, Enterprise class sort of stuck for any rebuilt/new construction of that type for about a decade from TMP to much later). Again, trying to correlate game rules to what we see on screen. Basically, in-game, an Excelsior class should want to turn at least slightly broadside to her target, exposing a whole very lot (Semi quoting a ST bridge officer starring in another movie, like if you get it) of guns. While an Enterprise, excuse me, Updated Constitution, type ship would either want to be directly down her throat or up her ass, to deny that opportunity. Depending on the decisions, skills, and experience of both Captains, of course. Both ships were fast, that was never the question. That game was awesome. So, I grabbed that book and, ran the numbers. RAW, "WDF" was nowhere near the "350+" as written. It was closer to about 85, IIRC. Seriously. 85 or something like that. Most medium cruisers had it in the 70+ range in Kirk's time. (Enterprise Refit had it at 89.6 As I recall). (I don't have the books in front of me, or I'd crunch the numbers again just to be sure. If you have them and feel like crunching them it's [Maximum damage x probability of damage for each range number. Don't get sloppy, because beam weapons have bonuses per range, so you can't just put a coefficient on it per firing chart. Do the work. Add it all up, divide by 24 and multiply by 1.43. You'll easily see when you get it right.] And D was only slightly higher in D factor than a Connie (refit, 2270+ construction). So, I put the jade-colored eyeglasses on at that point. (And I actually could point out where the deficiencies were, as I already sort of did. "WDF" is a reflection of maximum possible damage based on the weapons, and that's it, not their placement, not how much engine power is behind them, or how much powering weapons will handicap the ship in maneuver or shields, or even the fact that maybe you can't fire them all at the same target at the same time. No factor is given for having to go spin around (at least) and penetrate a shield (again) to do any more damage because your ship designer was an idiot. That's a big part of what made the Connies as written in that work beautiful. They could and would bring it all at once. With a skilled Captain, they could take out your weapons, disable your engine, then blow your ship apart, all before you knew what was happening. She will ruin your shit while Horner blarts out his fanfare. But even an Enterprise type (Trying to equally appease both sides there but I won't. That is the best that I could think of saying) could not fully power her weapons without good help from engineering in game, (60PU from undamaged engines standard, 62PU required for full weapons use. 6x Fh-11 (Max 10pu each) + 2 Fp-4 Torpedos. PTA 1pu each) and nearly all power sent to weapons. I actually was able to factor part of this into my calculations.) I won't pretend to be smart enough to put all of that through the ringer for you but note that NO ONE ELSE DID EITHER as far as I know. I've figured out that torpedoes are better that beams, just for power usage (get you a couple of maneuver points and another raised shield!). Speed is the number one factor in duels. And that directional firepower is more important than total firepower, at least by the rules as written. That book did not cover the Enterprice-C, nor did it cover any borg cubes. It only covered season one. I'm also sure that they didn't do justice to the Warbirds or Ferengi from Season1. They seem...neutered. All of that said: If FASA had lasted longer we might have gotten something more coherent. Since neither B nor D (in that set of rules at least,) could match a constitution class refit straight forward, that this might be a sticking point. Now I'm ready to watch this video. Let's see what this fictional game makes of this fictional content!

A lot of it comes down to the skill of the player. If someone had been playing the B instead of the C, the B would have likely come out on top.

I have never understood why the phasers can't be used for point defense to knock down incoming torpedoes.
I think it's generally accepted that most torpedoes are too small, and fly too fast to be targeted by phasers. In STO you can only target specific, heavy torpedoes that are larger and move a lot slower.
You have to set the weapons to a specific target (engines, weapons, etc) to get a 90% hit rate.
