True. Finger gestures seem like a good idea when you're safe in the armour of your fast car. But you get a sharp reality check when stuck at the next set of traffic lights. You don't know who the hell may be in that other car. Mikey leads a very dangerous occupation. Sooner of later he was bound to come across someone like this. Or several times worse.

I've given this a little more thought. While we're correctly focusing on the bit where he stands in your path and then attempts to follow when you swerve to the other side, we need to take into account the turn at 1:03. That clearly signals intent to cause mischief. He then drives along the cycle lane, parks and waits. No, this bloke is a headcase and needs dealing with.

I suspect this is a wannabe tough guy . If Mikey had been in his 20s or 30s ,6ft plus and carrying a bit of muscle he would have just shouted some abuse from the safety of his car and driven of in a huff. The little man obviously has such a small ego that he probably will hurt someone one day if such things trigger him to this extreme.but I would guess this person is quite selective when they show this aggression .

Sometimes just seeing things like that makes me want to move to another country where people care about others even while being total strangers. Props to the nice girl.

I work in A&E and we have a mental health unit there. It's sad how many people come in and MH care needs to be expanded
This thug took off with both hands off the steering wheel, did a wheely in the middle of a busy road, threatened violence and that doesn't include using his phone whilst driving. So what does a dangerous driver have to do to be prosecuted by our forces of law and order?
They said they would take up the assault, presumably only if the victim wants to make a statement.
Taking your hands off the steering wheel is not an offence in itself. You'd need to prove "driver not in position to have proper control" which requires an element of loss of control. He was driving in a straight line at the time.
By wheely did you mean the late left hand turn? That was very poor, but do we expect the police to prosecute every poor turn where it doesn't obstruct traffic?
The phone cannot be clearly seen in the video, so there's not enough evidence to prove what he was doing.
'Dangerous driving' in law is a high threshold, like overtaking over double-white lines on a bend, driving down the pavement at high speed or blowing through red lights. The courts have set the bar high that it's not just a matter of word definition, it has a legal threshold.
Be white and middle class, cos the cops and the courts know you'll likely accept any punishment meted out, where as minority groups would take a parking fine all the way to the European Court of Human Rights if they could.

I had the same thing happen to me last year. A motorist was waiting on a street corner wanting to fight me. I just laughed at him so he ran after me and he almost took a tumble like that famous guy on youtube. Motorists don't realise how fast we are so have no hope of catching us by running which was lucky for him because I studied martial arts for 15 years. Excellent work Mikey.

The way he intentionally went in the cycle lane was very worrying. That was definietly trying to intimidate you, after changing his mind last second to go the same way you were going. Dangeorus man.

Why would you try to soften what happened by claiming it was minor? He forced you onto the wrong side of the road, had there been oncoming cars you could easily be dead. Nothing minor about that.
If he had been in proper footwear he might have been able to intercede you, might have. The laying-in-wait, pre-meditation of it all is probably the most upsetting aspect of his crime. He was NOT willing to just let it go.

@@shaunw9270 'Common assault' in UK law is when someone intentionally causes someone to fear for their immediate safety. For example, pulling a punch or pretending to throw something, or running out in front of a cyclist and trying to tackle them! 'Battery' (or more serious offences like ABH/GBH) require a physical assault.

He intended to take your camera by whatever means to deny you of the footage. You would likely have received a thump too for his inconvenience
He might have tried, but it wouldn't have helped him even if he did get the camera. I think it'd be a lot harder for him to get the camera than he imagined as I have countermeasures in place.

He was nasty. You got a good description of him in your video, the police should take action he can't go around doing that type of thing. You stay safe Mikey.
Once he swerved into your path you should have stayed at that junction or gone a completely different direction in my opinion to prevent what could have been a dangerous encounter.

In smaller cities (Bristol) you are going to encounter the same people -especially if they are doing a school run or just out of their house. It's a good argument in favour a polite "please don't use your phone" rather than telling them what you are planning to do with the video that evening.

That guy had a weird way of running and looked like an absolute menace.
That should be a permanent license revoke. We can't have violent individuals operating heavy machinery in public spaces at literal break-neck speeds for obvious reasons.
I also couldn't really see his phone on the video. I think the glare was bad or something. So I also understand why they might not want to prosecute this one. And also, it's annoying that if you don't get hit then it's not much to prosecute. It's crazy, because it was obvious he was after you. I hope things like that won't happy to you anymore. "Avoid any instigation." You were the one who instigated the whole thing! You cannot cry when you initiate a confrontation and then it comes back to bite you. Yes he was using his phone, he was in the wrong, but it is up to the police to enforce the law, not you.
Wrong - he instigated this. Unlike him, I did nothing wrong. Unlike him, I wasn't driving on my phone. Being caught driving on the phone does not entitle you to act as he did.
Mickey was not enforcing the law. He was reporting a breach of the law. It is our right as citizens to report any breach of the law we witness without fear of retaliation or harassment.

Two weeks ago, I had a similar experience, the driver jumped out between two parked cars (he was lucky to find a space TBH) and attacked me, stealing my helmet cam. So be careful Mikey .

Quite the opposite. I’m filtering slowly and thus far more safely than normal filtering as done by, for example, that motorcyclist that came flying past me in this video.

There is reasonable doubt whether the driver stopped within after the lights turned red - otherwise, it is good evidence for driving without reasonable consideration for other road users.
