I've never technically lived alone before, but back when I was still in college, we lived in condos/individual houses all lined up next to each other in a row. We didn't have dorms, we were packed together in each home as a group of four and all the surrounding students were our neighbors. Anyway, I knew I was supposed to share a home with three others, but on the first day I found out that I was rooming with girls who had already been attending the college long before me and that they were both still on vacation. I was expected to wait 2-4 days for them to return and if that wasn't a dropped bomb already, I was also told that the only double room in the house (which I had booked for myself to FORCE socialization) was only gonna belong to me. Only two girls lived in that house before me so I wouldn't have the company of another person sharing my room. In the long run it was great, but in the moment? I was petrified. I was alone there by myself for only a few nights and I was so paranoid and scared that someone was gonna come in. At one point I even heard someone open the door and step inside my home, I thought it was my roomie, but when I checked it was some guy. I think he saw how pale I got from fear of this unknown stranger ENTERING MY LIVING SPACE. But it turned out he was just an RA. LOL I had to stay inside most of the day and kept my online friends talking to me all night to feel a sense of companionship and security. It was the only thing keeping my sane with all the creaks and steps breaking the eerie silence. I actually wrote a paper about the experience for one of my classes not too long after. The professor thought I was trying to exaggerate my experience for comedic affect. Little did he knows I was just placing emphasis on my own anxiety. LOL I could never go for longer than those few days, good on you Spechie. Respect.
*parents leave town for the weekend* *is dark out* me: *calls friend* hey can i stay on the phone with you till i go to sleep because i might get murdered and am afraid thank you
I'm living alone at 14 but these weird people keep coming on to my room asking for something and say to me to refer them by "family" it's just creepy to me (This is a joke )
Your animation movements seem strange but not strange that I hate them, meh don't let me or others tell you what you can try Edit:I don't have any words for your new animation movement, just keep up your video's
Literally I get major anxiety if I don't wiggle the door knob after I lock it before I leave for work...my brain needs to make sure "Yes the door is secure...the cats won't run out."
It's so nice to be the same age as a UA-camr you like because like the relatability of this video was so strong, makes me remember how we're all just a bunch of babies trying to figure life out and it's kind of hilarious when you don't look at the bad parts
Spechie I understand this video completely and thank you for talking about it for others to hear. I’m a 20 year old girl that lives alone and has small dog that loves to bark at anything and everything, which sometimes is a blessing and a curse. I’ve learned to cope with random nosies and apartment neighbors not caring that they have others living beside them. Luckily I don’t live within a populated town and it’s a nice community with low crime rate, but the first few months on your own is still very scary. I was thrilled to know I could live on my own and try to become an adult, but I’m not technically adult material. I’ve learned that the hard way. It was probably about three months in to living by myself, that I realized I had basically no skills of taking care of myself. Sadly I suck at chores, cleaning isn’t my forte, and cooking wellll that’s another matter on its own. I still sometimes struggle with keeping my apartment clean and getting out of the house. That all right there can make anyone’s self confidence crumble at the seams. It made so much sense to me when you stated that being alone with yourself is difficult. Self hatred is a bitch and it can throw you down a rabbit hole so fast. Sometimes I can catch myself becoming that way and usually can’t even stop it from happening, but rarely there are times I can. Sometimes I’ll be shut in my house for like three days and that’s ridiculous, but I’m still doing it for unknown reasons. But anyways, it makes me sorta glad to know I’m not the only introverted girl that tries to live on her own. Though I’m failing here and there, but I keep telling myself that at least I haven’t burnt my apartment down yet. Plus hearing that I’m not the only one going through those same problems is a bonus. It makes me feel like I’m not the only one that has these issues. So thank you, Spechie! If you ever need to talk about living alone or about anything just hit me up, I’d love to chat. ~
”Lock your doors” I live with lot’s of security yet I always panic about locks. I live in a friendly neighborhood. Then again there's this dude who abuses their roommate's dog.
Pro tip make sure you budget all of your bills and expenses as well as everything else. Also your rent shouldnt be more than 25% of your monthly income.
I don’t think I’d ever want to live alone and also it’s nice to have a roommate to split rent with. I hope that when I go to college, I get a nice room, but if I don’t, I hope that they at least stay out of my way and leave me alone. Nice knowing that there’s a person living in the same space as you even if you barely interact with them. I like being alone sometimes like maybe for a few hours or so, but I don’t think I’d want to be in a prolonged state of being alone.
Man! You are like my guide to knowing how to handle myself once I go and live by myself. I'm 23 and still living with my mom for now sadly. I do have a job and plan on moving out once I save enough money. The thing that sucks is there's no apartments anywhere where I live. I will have to move to another city or maybe even another state for an apartment. Uuuuuugh. But still, I love your channel. It's kinda therapeutic in a weird way. Thank you 😊
This is very helpful. I'm going to move to another apartment tomorrow, as the one I'm living in has this crazy roommate of mine. I was only supposed to live here for a year, but I could barely get through three months. I'm always alone and its not that I'm afraid to leave the house, I just don't wanna for whatever reason.
I realized when I lived alone at 18 that bills suck and food just doesn't magically appear in my fridge. My dog and I lived in a sketchy part of town so i was lucky in the fact that the grocery store was just across the street next to a pharmacy. If I couldn't get it at either of these 2 places I didn't need it, that's how I felt for the longest time.
Used to live alone years ago. Was in an apartment that was within walking distance from the main city centre, which was great. However, aside from the convenience of most stores, that's about it for pros because the cons sucked. Biggest con was loneliness. Even though I was studying, coming home to a big empty apartment was demoralising and little things build up. Couldn't own a pet because the complex didn't allow it. Biggest tip I took away from it: have a friend visit often
My state has a high crime rate too. My street is especially crime zone. I always have to look out for my little brother and everytime I hear a bang or something spooky like that I run to my little brother and make him go inside.
I've yet to move out, but I have plans. The place I want to move to is technically out of state, but it isn't that long of a drive from where I currently live, so I could always take a day trip to go see them. Also, I know my family members who are good at handy\maintenance stuff would come and help me when they could. I just hope what ever place I end up living lets me change the locks if they have already changed them from the last tenant. You never know who has keys to those old locks. When you said about having medicine, I'd like to add that you can get the generic brands of over the counter medicine for better prices. You just need to know the technical name, like acetaminophen (i think i spelled that right) instead of Tylenol. (Obviously double check everything and consult a doctor or the pharmacy employees to know you're getting the correct stuff).
Friendly reminder that pepper spray only really works on someone who doesn't actually want to really do anything and will easily back down but is utterly useless against any individual who fully intends harm and has adrenaline pumping, and at that point the only reliable method of defending yourself is a gun that you have plenty of training with.
hey spechie just want to thank you for helping me have the bravery to use online art and maybe some day make a story time animation channel love your vids
Worst thing about living alone for is when I hear a noise in the other room and think “oh it’s just my dad or brother or mum”. Then I realise I live on my own and start to freak out
I’m planning to move out in a couple months and I’m also a 20 year old female (will be 21 in a month) but I plan to live with two of my friends (that are a couple). I’ll have a room all to myself. I’m also trying to buy a car and I’m in college so yeah that’s lots of stress lol Apartment hunting really is stressful but if you plan it well it can work out. I agree with everything you said. I’m kind of afraid of like going crazy living alone but I’m living with friends and still going to school so that should be fine, they usually give me confidence too. I hope you enjoy your new apartment!
Man I Really hope for your sake all of this changes soon, this situation is rather worrisome. I Really appreciate those tip, you're tip remind me of the ones my dad give me, I hope they work for me.
