    Why wouldn't you show your friends the dragon part? That's the silliest thing I ever heard. That's hands down the best part of the deck. "Yo check out this dope dragon fanning deck. Gonna show you everything but the dragon......"

    i have 2 of these and i bought a second one because i thought the first one was messed up. Neither of them fan at all for me they just stick together. Im not bad at fanning either, i can fan any other bicycle deck and other cards as well

    • @deckreview
      @deckreview  10 років тому +1

      Try more finger/thumb pressure on the cards. Adjust your pressure to accommodate the smooth finish.I find these near the same level as standard bikes as far as ease of fanning goes in my opinion.

    • @OhhSlash
      @OhhSlash 10 років тому

      deckreview i think i got ripped off or something because my cards feel like plastic. Feel like no finish. I can fan bicycle cards completely fine but all of these cards just stick together

    • @deckreview
      @deckreview  10 років тому

      OhhSlash
      Are you getting blocks when you fan them? I just whipped mine out to see how the finish was to refresh my memory.
      So it is a smooth finish deck similar to aviator and streamline. The fanning ability is not as good as a standard bicycle deck. They do clump when I don't use pressure, otherwise i'm still getting good card fans. Still pretty solid but slightly not as good as standard bikes. My last comment about the ease is incorrect and I apologize.
      With that said, I can only can only come up with these explanations, given I'm taking your word and that you can fan standards perfectly fine;
      Not enough finger/thumb pressure is being used. Without pressure, this deck doesn't fan really well.
      You're not used to smooth finish decks in general and haven't adapted accordingly
      Or you got ripped off and have junk decks.
      Hopefully it is just a technique thing because it'd be a shame if you did get duped.This deck is expensive. Make a video of you fanning a standard bike and the dragon fanning deck and I can help you better.

    Great video. I WISH I had your ability to fan. For some reason I just can't fan a deck of cards that looks decent no matter how I try. I've used brand new decks that are extremely slippery right out of the box and I still get clumping and my fans look horrible. I'm sure it's my grip and I've watched many, many tutorials. I just don't seem to be able to fan cards. Your display of the Dragon Fanning Deck was amazing. i plan on getting one but I'm going to wait til I learn to fan without it looking like crap. The fans with this deck look incredible especially the dragon. I just wouldn't be able to do the deck justice if I were to get it right now.

      The two hand fan is actually deeper than it looks. There are 3 things going on at the same time; holding with the right grip, how tight the cards are held, and pressure spreading the cards. Good card condition will also make it easier.
      What I did when I was learning the two hand fan (back at 2007) was practiced the pressure fan but instead of springing the cards just push really quickly and make the wheel shape. If the deck is new it should be fairly easy. It will eventually make your fingers stronger for the pressure fan too and make the other fan types easier.
      Otherwise, just to achieve visible progress and get confidence faster, I would order fanning powder and a tally ho deck from www.penguinmagic.com. I just checked and that would be $15 with shipping if you're from the States. It won't make your fans automatic but progress will be much faster. I've taught some people with the powder and they were nailing it quickly. Not the size of my fan but a decent size. It's a good way to get your technique down and will give you more respect to regular unpowdered decks.

      Red ones are cheaper than black.
      www.penguinmagic.com/p/4084
      Tally hos index numbers are closer to the edges making the numbers appear better when fanned.
      So as far as your fan is concerned, assuming you fan like vjose32 (not knocking the guy he's cool), with the incomplete fan. That's a pivot point issue, he's getting that block at the end because he's using the side of his thumb as his pivot and he is far too "in" with the cards. That's most likely what you're doing as well.
      The correct pivot point is the tip of your thumb and not the side of the thumb. Get a 3 of clubs out of the deck and place it on top. That bottom pip is where your thumb tip should be on top of the "clover" leaf. If I wasn't holding cards, my thumb would be pressing on the distal joint of my middle finger. With the full deck exactly where the top leaf is on the 3 of clubs. That's the pivot point I use.
      Watch this video by cactus boi
      ua-cam.com/video/JU2_GZo_3hU/v-deo.html
      And use that method of spreading the cards with my pivot point and you should progress faster. Alternatively you can do what he does with the bevel but that's not for me.

      Wow, man, thanks! I can't thank you enough for the detailed help on this. I'm going to watch the videos you suggested and bust out a new deck of cards. Hopefully along with your details tips on the grip and so forth I'll see if I can finally nail this fan thing down. I really do think it's a grip issue is all since I have very large and very strong hands (although I assume strength isn't really required for fanning). I'm also going to grab a Tally-Ho deck and some Fanning Powder. Thanks again. I'll let you know how it goes.

    • @Soulrider2012
      @Soulrider2012 7 років тому

      Well, once again I must say Thank You. Your advice again was spot on. I got out a new deck of cards and tried the grip and advise you gave me and within a few tries did some better fans then I've been able to do so far. The spacing was better and just more improved over all.
      I snagged a deal off of Amazon for three Tally-Ho decks, a red, a blue and a Viper deck for $15 shipped (with a free pocket calculator). :) I took out one of the Tally-Ho decks (Red, as I think the Viper has a different finish). But anyway, WOW, first fan with the Viper deck was the best fan I've done to date. The spacing between cards was fantastic or, what you guys who have no difficulty fanning cards MIGHT call, normal. For me, it was fantastic. It wasn't a perfect fan but it was the best one so far and I'm able to repeatedly do some "pretty decent" fans. I've got some practicing to do but you were right, you got me to where I've progressed quite a bit. I think I'm finding that the other fingers of the deck hand play a role besides the thumb and finger your sort of "pinning" the deck to for a point of rotation. Up to now I've sort of just kept those other fingers back. I'm playing around with having them help to fan the cards and...sort of drag them past the other fingers. Not sure if that makes sense or is part of it.
      I haven't picked up any fanning powder yet as Amazon has it but it's expensive, comparatively. I know Penguin has it cheap but I got the deal on the three decks from Amazon. I'll see how it goes and maybe I'll still pick some up and try it with some of my Bike decks. I figured I"d see how it went with the Tally-Ho deck(s). Even brand new out of the box I can't seam to fan with Bike decks as well as I can with a new Tally-Ho deck. Anyway, this post has gotten far to long. Thank you again for your help. I REALLY do appreciate it.

      Soulrider2012
      No problem man. Good luck, I know you'll succeed. And yes use the other fingers to help the cards be stable when fanning. That's how I do it.

      It's been months since you asked this, but nonetheless, here's an answer...There are two types of these decks (at least two). Both have the same artwork on the cards and even the tuckbox, and the cards are the same width and height. However, the thickness is different. One deck (I got mine at least 20 years ago) is pretty standard thickness, so the deck is the same thickness as a typical deck of cards. Even years ago, I paid over $20 for it. There is also a deck available these days from a couple of sellers in China on eBay. The cards in it are as thin as "manipulation" cards, so the entire deck is about 60% the thickness of a regular deck. I just paid $8 for this one. (I didn't know it was going to be thinner. Live and learn, but they both fan really well for me.)
