Well there u go....everything happens for a reason😃...I hope it turns out well.....once in place it will just there and look good for a very long time....
Maybe with gas prices creeping down I may actually take to road eventually too....$3.49 here in Southern Indiana yesterday....I'm waiting for $2.99 then zoooom! I feel like I was grounded so far this year....but discovered as creators we really don't need to go far away to produce some cool material....thx Jen
Very common place for weeds to find there way though, best way is to try to pull them up at their roots, takes manual labor but once eliminated it should solve that problem, could even peel back the rocks and ground cloth 4-6 inches away from the sidewalk...dig a shallow trench(which would dig up those weeds, then lay a strip of ground cloth that overlaps the existing cloth...spread the rocks back in place, this will also expose the sidewalk edge more clearly leaving a nice clean look.
I'm curious: did you cut a trench at the edges so you have two levels? Or did you cut the edges then slope it back up into the beds? Tried the second way with mulch a few years ago, didnt go as planned.
Hi Scott, I took a straight blade shovel and cut straight down, then slopped inwardly about a 30°angle, helps to hold the rock/mulch in place, no edging material needed, I learned this decades ago watching pro landscapers working around Indy at Riley's hospital for kids, used this method ever since, rock holds very well, heavy heavy rains may still want to float the mulch out
Mr LAF, do you have a suggestion for removing mulch that was placed next to angular river rock without a divider? I want to remove the mulch within 5 feet of house (for wildfire risk reduction) and it's taking forever. Thanks. I know you do things RIGHT.
Hello, really just one scoop at a time, sometimes jobs like urs do take a long time but ur goal to remove it is a good one, if mulch was very deep a pitch fork works on scooping it up as long as the points don't keep getting stuck in the underlayment cloth, I hope u have good weather to get a bunch done this weekend :)
All right!...nice thing is when it's done...it is done for a very long time...I suspect the rock will last about a million more years...as a bonus...u r working on those muscles :)
Do you find that over time the landscape fabric kills the plants? I wanted to do this around my roses but worry the landscape fabric will keep nutrients from reaching the roses. Thanks.
Hi Nikola, I usually leave an area underneath landscape plants uncovered...like maybe 6" from the plant all the way around...this will let any fertilizer or plant food to get to the roots...u bring up a good point, the fabric says it will let nutrients thru but why not know for sure....thanks for dropping by :)
Yes...those would be draw backs to using rocks! Leaf blower helps the leaves situation...but those rocks can seem to walk out into the yard or driveway by themselves leaving u with a dangerous situation for sure...thank you for ur input :)
I’m so happy you made this video! I just told Mark last Tuesday I’d like to take out the mulch and use river rock. You did a great job!!

Great job well done Lawrence, take the time and do it right. Works every time .
Thank U Drew! :)
I get weeds in between the sidewalk and my rocks.

You know your stuff!
Thank you Ron...I've been doing landscaping for a long time...enjoy ur day!

💪
That's about right....true meaning of manual labor :)
Replacing my mulch with rock. The manual labor was rough, all I have left is the membrain and rock

How much yards of gravel you used ?
Not sure about yards...that gravel is sold in tons...about 8 tons total...that's a lot of shoveling :)
เป็นวิธีที่ยอดเยี่ยมและสวยมากเพื่อน
Looks way better than mulch and so much less maintenance every year.
100%...the key is to dig that trench so the rock falls in it keeping it in place. Thanks for your comment...I really appreciate it MrDarkBM

NO, landscaping fabric for this gardener. But like the river rock in place if bark mulch.
Love the look of the rock you sir ROCK!
Once rock is down its there for good, unless someone kicks it around, man that a thousand shovel fulls I bet :)
Worst thing to do, my opinion! Removing leafs is ridiculous..also possibly injury to your ankles !!
