i am also in the process of planning to replace front yard with gravel. i think this is great idea, saving water and low maintenance. but i think this needs landscape designer to decide on the overall color theme, choice of rock(size, color, shape), choice of plant(color/shape/size/type of cactus), arrangement of plant..etc.
Awww....you toppled that bush at 1:28. I would have grabbed it and replanted it if I saw it on the curb driving by haha. But I am on a plant budget soooo☺
Matthew, I am curious. You are such an expert and good at what you do! Who would you say is responsible for mentoring you and for all your garden wisdom that use today. Thank you!😊
Three months working at a landscaping company that I quit because the boss was extremely rude. Best thing that ever happened. I am the product of Keith Kelfas and Stanley Genedek on youtube along with several others. You can't not count experience too😏... it was 3 years at the time of that video. I'm pushing 4 now
Very nice. I have all rock front and back yard. I need to do something about it and fast. Also the rocks keep going to the sidewalk and it’s frustrating what can I do ? I truly need the help
I installed this on the edge next to the sidewalk to keep the rocks from moving to the sidewalk. Bought from Lowe’s. Cut to fit, keeps a nice gap from your yard to sidewalk. Rubberific 24-ft x 3-in Brickface 6-Pack Brown Rubber Landscape Edging Section
Hey Mathew, could I pick your brain a bit? Im wanting to lay gravel in my front yard however the dirt is very stoney and uneven. Would laying filler dirt first, a weed barrier second, and then gravel last be a the way to go? Ive never done something like this before. Thank you in advance!
@@matthewdudley8818 Yes, I'm able to take care of weeds in my rock area with weed killer quite easily. Had rocks for years now with easy weed maintenance.
How many employees and how long did it take u to do this? What did u bid the job at? Im in my 2nd year as an owner and trying to learn how to accurately bid my jobs. Im in denver and people want xeriscape all the time
I love hard work in the yard though. Its so gratifying. Your body may feel wrecked for a moment. But its so satisfying. What a good life is made of. Seeing the work of your hands and smiling with approval. ☺✌
The wire is for gophers. Landscaping cloth should be used only if you have things like Bermuda or crabgrass. Other than that, it's pretty useless for keeping out weeds which will blow in anyway
You can definitely plant decorative grass in the rocks. To prevent grass weeds from growing in the rocks, a pre emergent can be used. If you missed them and weeds have started to grow, spray em.
In the video I used 1/4 inch galvanized hardware cloth. Now I use the 1/2 inch simply because it is usually thicker and even though the holes are spaced out more, it is plenty to stop the gophers from going through it. You can get it on Amazon- which seems to have the best deals or check your local building or landscape supply center. Home depot is super expensive in my experience
That was a local job that cost 11k. If I was to do the same thing we would include hotel for the crew and a lockable shipping container for all our tools.
Wow, the owner spent that much and went cheap with solar lighting. The rock selection was on the cheaper end too but that’s on the owner. Nice work with gopher mitigation. Weed barrier?
Probably because they are elderly folks that live there this yard requires a lot less maintenance and since everything is now on a drip system there’s really nothing to do except hire someone occasionally to shape the bushes
This is so awesome
I refuse to pay someone when I can do it myself thanks to you. Thank God for UA-cam and landscapers like you Thanks so very much
Nice job! This is just what I need in my front yard. No more spending hours in the front yard.
First time viewer, enjoyed.
Dude - I love your passion for this. Cheers!
Getting great ideas for our new home in SW New Mexico. Thanks!
Thank you for the gopher wire idea- just starting my research, you saved me lots of headaches from the gophers!
this is almost exactly what I want for my lawn
Great job! Looks fantastic.

Does the hardware cloth stop weeds, or should I also use landscape fabric/geogrid? Thank you in advance.

Nice job. Gophers are not my problem, West Texas weeds are.
You guys did ya'll thing on that yard!!
Best comment award goes to you🤣👍🏻
Back breaking work! Good job!

Excellent info. Thank you so much!
beautiful job, how much did it cost......interested .
This is very cool! and saving water!
Can you share the name of those solar light or where I can get them? Excellent work !
God bless you bro! quick question why did not you place the black fabric for the weeds and bugs?
Never seen metal cover the whole yard like that. Also wonder how much all those stones and rocks cost

Great job
Just curious about the price or cost of all this?
11k two years ago
Good night nurse who has that nowday?
Why didn't you use the dingo to install the rock?
Nice. What is tje purpose of the screen? It has holes so the weed can appear afterwards...
Beautiful!

I would've done a LOT more cactus in the middle. Too much open rock
Does the bendable border warp under the hot sun? I'm in Dallas Texas hot sun
Very cool!
Home made "Dead Valley"...... in summer!
What is the benefit of using the hardware cloth, rather than landscape fabric?
Gophers are prevelant in our area. For us it makes better sense to lay wire. Weeds can be easily taken care of by spraying and torching 🔥

Looks like a lot of work and a lot of money. What was the final cost of project?

We have landscape that looks like…… it needs help. Good save. 😂
Nice! i did 10 yards today hard work 😓
indeed, it is a ton of work! Skipping the gym could be nessesary for days like that😅

Where do you rent that machine ?
How do you keep the weeds and grass from growing back?
That's why I'm here, and they didn't answer that.
clean!!
So then does he have to spray for weeds ?
Is hardware cloth better to prevent weeds or landscape cloth?

What do you bid a project like this?
Oxnard?
Fabric of drip first?
My landscaper kicked he ant hills away, and I've had random loose pavers on the edges because of it. Why would anyone ignore that?
Can’t imagine how expensive this all was
where is this? North Florida?
that left eye just doing its own thang
Dude really?
Matt how much does this project cost?
$11,000 3 years ago
How much does this cost?
Fire
Needs more plants. A bit plain.
Please, please. I hope this works in Colorado.
It will freeze.
Make sure u get the irrigation blown out in the fall and weed barrier put down instead of wire and it will!
I assume this is the southwest. Does the home owner get a tax credit for low water landscape?
No landscape fabric barrier for the rocks?? Jesus Christ those weeds are going to come out in a few weeks lol
What city is this in?
lompoc, ca
@@matthewdudley8818 want to come to tahoe? laketahoejill@yahoo.com
What is the name of the material you put down after tapping the dirt but before the rock? Looked like fence wire.
Hi Carmen! It is 1/4 inch hardware cloth. 1/2 inch can be used as well. Make sure it is galvanized to withstand rust
@@matthewdudley8818 what keeps grass from growing between rocks?
if you have crabgrass, then it is smart to lay weed fabric. a pre emergent and be applied and regular sprays will keep grass and weeds at bay
I was like how come this guy never do any work, then i figure he is the owner lol

Definitely not a simple project for one person on a budget
Then repeat every year to remove weeds. Not fun
Boring.
Poor quality video
