- This simple orange drink is commonly referred to as Orangeade. This recipe comes from the Kitchen Guide cookbook which is from 1933. You can get creative and substitute any kind of citrus juice you want into this. The recipe states you can use 1 cup tp 1.5 cups of sugar for the syrup. We only used 1 cup and thought it was sweet enough.
Orangeade
4 oranges
1 lemon
1 to 1 ½ cups sugar
3 cups water
Squeeze the juice from the oranges and lemon, strain (we forgot to strain it). Make a syrup out of the sugar and water. Let cool. Mix the syrup with the juices and serve very cold.

What other vintage beverage recipes should we try out?
Swichel is made with vinegar
@@melanieshelton7566 I think we may have to try that one out! Do you know of a good recipe? Thank you for the great suggestion :)
still tastes amazing even in winter :D
Yes it does! It's like liquid sunshine in winter!
My grandmother made this in the summer and it is best served ice-cold-it brings out the crisp, refreshing tang of the juices.
I agree with you on that!
We used to have a soda fountain in our town for a long time. Before the owner closed he told us what makes his orangeade so good. He peels the orange zest and tosses it in the sugar. He said he leaves it overnight then pours the sugar orange zest into the pot with water to cook. That makes a really intense, but not overly sweet orangeade.
That's a really interesting technique! I love orangeade so I'm definitely going to try that out the next time I make it. Thank you for the tip!
Good to know. As I was watching this recipe, I was thinking it was a big waste to not be using the peel. There is a lot of flavor in there, and any respectable county fair lemonade is going to be using the lemon zest in the flavoring.
When l was a kid my mom would make this orange aid all the time in the spring/summer. Absolutely Delicious!
It's seriously so good! I have a grape-ade recipe too I think. I should do that one next!
This orange drink has my last name in it, WOW that's crazy!
It does!!! Lol, that's funny!
love it!
So glad you love it!
Wash very good the skin of the fruit and then use the skin (no white if possible) and take the skin and mix it with sugar and let it sit for about 2 hours or more covered on the counter and pull all that flavor out of the skin. Then use this sugar in making your syrup. Mix the orange sugar with your water and bring it just to a boil, and turn it off and let it cool. Once cool ad your fresh squeezed fruit juice and then put in the frigerated. Once cold serve over ice.
Sounds delicious! I will try this next time, thank you!
That looks delicious. Do you suppose a person could use the whole Orange/Lemon in a blender for a high pulp yield if they didn't have a juicer? I kinda like to chew my juice.😂🤣🤣
Yes I suppose you could blend the fruit if you wanted a chewier juice!
Looks so good!
It's pretty delicious!
Great recipe , thanks 😋👍👍🇺🇸
You're welcome, I hope you enjoy it!
Please I need help how will I preserve my juice using that recipe to start up my business...
Honestly, I don't have that much experience with juice preservation. I know there are some orangeade recipes that call for citric acid and I think that can help preserve it. You might want to look up one of those. Good luck!
How much does the recipe produce?
The recipe didn't say how many servings or the end quantity. I would have to make it again to know for sure.
A little under a litre for me
Thirsty in Florida
You should make this! You have access to the best oranges in the country too!
So I got impatient didnt finish the video and ended up drinking just the orange and lemon juice 🤦🏻♀️ omg it was so sour
LOL! You gotta put the sugar in it!
Thr restaurant's orange ade tastes sour.
