For me personally, the thing that held me back from buying an Ally in the first place, was the XG mobile port. Having that be replaced with a USB 4 port is an absolute game changer. The only thing I worry about now, is if it feels good in the hands. I thankfully live near stores that stock all of the primary options, and the best hand feel consoles for me personally were 1; the OLED steamdeck (completely sold out here, rough) and 2; the legion go. I hope the new Ally X is priced competitively, maybe the same as the Legion go.
I got my rog ally extreme a few months back and to be honest, it has blown my expectations out the water. Runs all the games that i can thank of from old steam games to games in 2024, and emulation is fantastic on this thing, so i dont thank ill be upgrading it. Im gunna try to get 3 to 4 years out of it. And if i can get more than i would be really happy. I just dont thank the X is that big of a jump, i mean the bigger battery and more ram will help with the shared memory but i just dont thank itll be necessary for me upgrade this time around.
yeah, that makes sense. I feel the same as well. just a great all round hand-held good for the years to come. I love that for us! thanks for the comment, I appreciate you fam ❤️
Most of these windows handhelds give around 60 to 90mins of gameplay for AAA games and around 3 - 5 for indies. It really depending on your settings. Resolution, TDP, etc
External graphics via USB 4 only works reasonably well with an external monitor where XG Mobile will boost graphics performance on the Ally itself. So how is this the same? Only device that use usb 4 out to external graphics and pump it back into the device is Minisform tablet which has graphics in. And I know of nobody who's demonstrated this on UA-cam yet.
This is a great video! You have amazing production and your excitement about your subject matter is palpable! Well done, I'll Keep an eye out for future videos.
aww thanks so much for the kind words. i really strive to create the things that i care deeply about and I'm glad that it resonates with you. stay awesome! 🇳🇬❤️
I purchased a XG mobile and i look at it both ways. It sucks that it’s gone from Ally X which means I won’t buy. On the other hand , I have an XG mobile…which means I should make use of it anyways with its dedicated ram, battery charge and horsepower so it really only matters if I bring only an Ally with me .
I too have a xgmobile already which I used with my 13 flow, now with my ally, its such a good pairing with the Ally. So much so I sold the flow and the Ally is now my main computer. The X not having compatible sucks for me and means I won't be upgrading. I picked up the xgmobile 3080 for £700 used, I don't think I could pick up a egpu with equivalent performance for much less.
Yea I don't understand why Asus has to get rid of the xg mobile port. This is very anti customer. Charged us lot of money to buy the xg mobile 4090 and now they are ditching it. I hope they are keeping it on the rog ally 2 though ... Otherwise this is really taking a piss to the customers that bought the xg mobile
Gaming Nexus was saying that the legion was fraught with issues, and the battery life was lacking. Would have got one otherwise because the screen size is great and the hardware looked good too, the claw was plagued with a lot of the same issues despite looking as if it had the best specs overall.
@@zantesh I personally haven’t had any issues with mine it runs amazing yes the battery is lacking if running more demanding games but that’s the case with all the handhelds even laptops. The screen size and quality won it for me and having the two usb c ports is a game changer especially when your using the device when charging
@johncrompton4640 how much did you end up getting it for? And I wish I had two usbc ports. Want to use my ally with my viture xr glasses but the battery life isn't really viable. Gna wait for the ally x and swap the batteries if possible
@johncrompton4640 I had a Legion Go for almost 2 months. It's so uncomfortable to use. Screen is good but not amazing. Overall, wouldn't recommend it.

it depends on you really. since you're asking, I'd say get the ally if you have an external monitor/keyboard/mouse that you can plug into to get work done. else a gaming lap tap might be better if you need portability and flexibility
I'm agreeing with you about the upgraded of the "X" model, but with the $800.00 tag... I don't think so. The original Ally is already good (if you know how-to configured properly). The "X" model is just an ugraded of RAM, some hardware, bigger battery, joysticks, others. It's not worth the price tag (just me opinion). NOT to mention Asus's Support lately, it's a joke!
I only think the price will be 750 with 512 GB yes because maybe because they said you can probably put one terabyte storage because that means there’s more space to put by putting storage or turbo storage
It would be so cool if you could buy a replacement battery for the x and then mod it into the Og rog ally with a 3d printed back plate to accommodate the larger battery. Asus are known for keeping their connectors standardized so to save with mass production. So my hopes are high for doubling my og rog ally battery life, time will tell.
you know what, that sounds like such a good idea if Asus can make that happen. i have no doubt perhaps that someone in the community will make a mod pack anyway. something to look forward to!
It would be nice for asus to give us an option for those who already bought the ASUS ROG ALLY.... Knowing that it was released in 2023 and they are already talking about the new console in 2024
yeah fair enough. gaming offline is fine. in fact most of the games I've played have been offline as i love story based games on the ally. no complains here
I mean it's the same processor as what Is on the current ally. so I'd say it comes down to what you prefer. the steamed and it's ecosystem OR windows on the ally
With that line of thought, why buy anything? This is a competitive space and companies are always going to one up each other to try to stay relevant. Just buy something that suits your needs

it still uses the outdated AMD SoC which makes it an overpriced and outdated toy at the rumored price of over $1k. Next time, use Intel Lunar Lake instead.

yeah that's a no for me dawg. sure ASUS has the whole rma issue but I already move with the knowledge that most companies are not our friends. not ASUS, not onexplayer, not any company. my policy is to use what works and when I no longer feel that it does, I move to the next brand that does
@@Geekception I was going to get the x1 and pre ordered the Intel version when it came out but canceled because even after some driver updates it was still behind z1 extreme. Glad I canceled because I really want to get the newer x1 with a 8840u and 32gb of ram. I just don't know if I want the 10 inch or the 8.8 inch, but probably the 10 inch. The 10 inch is still lighter than a legion go so even though it looks big and heavy it's not the heaviest handheld even with a 10inch screen. Legion go controllers weight a lot more than x1 controllers. They don't have batteries, only power by the device.
@Geekception love it so far, can play any game I throw at it, and you just optimize the performance to your needs just like a regular pc setup. My 1 and only problem so far is not being able to type in games, which I know an external keyboard can be used but I don't carry one around at all times.

The battery was doubled from 40wh to 80wh. How did you get 3-8h battery life from before 1h? It's at best a 2x improvement, not a 0x or even 3x.
