They are truly an inexplicably extraordinary band. Michael League's solo stuff is amazing too, as is Bill Laurance's.....and Cory Henry's . It's like a room of bandleaders and virtuosi all working for the the tune and for one another.
That's the fun of the Family Dinner series (2 volumes until now) - Snarky Puppy challenged themselves by accompanying vocalists. That implied the songs werren't composed by Snarky Puppy members this time (like this song, which is a Laura Mvula composition, the title track of her debut album with the same name) and you've pointed out perfectly that making an arrangement is composing too.
Great video good sir! Snarky has 2 family dinner albums and they are both fantastic. Lalah’s “something” was on volume 1, and this one is volume 2. My other favorites on volume 2 are “don’t you know” featuring Jacob Collier and “I remember” with Knower and Jeff Coffin. Both are very different and they feature multiple artists in these albums who are all incredible! Lastly, I wanted to mention that snarky is going to do a live album again in front of an audience for the first time in 6 years! This will be in Dallas and sold out initially, however, they had to move the date to March of next year. They are adding 2 more dates and they will be on sale within the next few weeks. So if your interested in being able to sit in live for one of these recordings for a new album, keep an eye out on their social media!
