I have only seen a few versions of Harley Quinn, but of the few I have seen there has been at least one version that has shown an ability to act calmly and rationally like a normal person for at least a short time when necessary. It seems to me that when Harley began spending all of her time with Joker, she adjusted herself into a mannerism that she thought would please him. I know she has Stockholm Syndrome (I think it is called that) but at the same time she sometimes seems to come off as a child trying to please an abusive parent. I have even seen indications at times that she acts more stupid than she is because she wants to make Joker happy, so I think that while she is unlikely to ever become the person she was before, it is likely that there is more of Harleen Quinzel in there than there might appear to be. Of course, that entirely depends on the version, but from what I have seen of the cutscenes in this game, clearly some of what she learned as a psychiatrist still sticks even if she uses it in a sick fashion most of the time.
I like how she actually mourns bats for a second when talking to Jason the first time, then regains her composure. She seems more adult and capable on her own but still not quite there identity wise. The one thing I did dig what she did in her ultimate Harley outfit, was her “take a bow” moment before the fight. That was (hate to say it, but likewise love it) reeaally joker inspired. The way she put on foot to the front with heel buried in the ground, the whole stance at that moment. All in all great version of Quinn in this game
Even in the god awful Harely Quinn show. There's a clip where she mentions something about the fake accent when she entered Bruce's mind. Sue me lol....but it has a couple of good qualities. Yet I still hate the Harely Quinn Show😆
Man the voice actor killed her role. Every small inflection of her voice coupled with the animation. Hands down the best portrayal of her character IMO
When I saw that Harley was in the trailer I thought Tara Strong (the voice of Harley in the Arkham series) would be voicing this Harley but I like how they got a whole new voice actor which is actually very good
I’m not so fan of the DC movies Harley. I mean she’s cool but I don’t consider her the same character as her first version. In the comics it strayed even so so far that I don’t recognize her anymore. She doesn’t have any appeal to me. I find it kinda lame that the new Harley is either some looney teenage-minded hero or the inclusive anti-hero who talks about red flags, is a lesbian and feminist of sort. It’s crazy how people forget she starts as an average woman in her 30s who was very good at science and psychiatry. She wore a low bun, basic white coat, long skirt. She was normal actually. She wasn’t born a bombshell or what. She wasn’t in being original. Then of course, it didn’t mean she wasn’t a little insane at the beginning. This version actually takes the character seriously, takes seriously that she is a former psychiatrist in her 30s. This is what I like about it. It’s an unpopular opinion but I don’t like the Ivy-Harley ship. I don’t believe it’s progressive. In fact, I find it annoying that people can’t just accept them as friends. And Ivy certainly isn’t some misunderstood villain. She is sometimes nice but mainly manipulative. When they team up, it doesn’t make Harley’s or Ivy’s particularities shine. So I agree with you
@@EyeBeZombie Finally a piece of Batman media other than Birds of Prey that treat Harley like some legit villain and don’t have her side kicking to Joker or Ivy
Actually canonically he is big. Jason canonically is heavier than Bruce. (Jason 6ft, 225 lbs, Bruce 6'2ft, 210 lbs) Nightwing is substancially smaller than both of them, he is 5'10ft, 175 lbs. Idk why artist don't want to draw them according to their canon heights in the comics. When they draw Nightwing next to Batman, he is always much smaller. When they draw Rd Hood next to Batman, they're roughly the smae height/weight. But when they draw Nightwing next to Red Hood, they always make Nightwing bigger. XD
@@viloetmarsh3467 Actually canonically Jason is a big boy. He is heavier in the comics than Bruce/Batman. XD Tho shorter. Canon heigh/weight of Jason is 6ft, 225 lbs; Bruce is 6'2 ft, 210 lbs. Nightwing is smaller than both of them, I think they made him too tall in this game. (Dick- 5'10ft, 175 lbs)
Yeah, at one point I would say that Harley is misunderstood. But after everything that she and Joker did, I would say other wise. I love how she reacted with sadness when she realized that "Bats" really is dead. It shows how much she cared about him, well, cared enough to mess with him.
@@vicenzostella1390 but I'm wondering how does it work I thought I read that you only play one character the whole main story then start a new one when you do a new game?
I've always liked the expression that Harley makes when she realizes Batman is dead, she looks lowkey sad lol. Also the interactions between her and Jason are so enjoyable and they almost sound like friends (even tho they aren't)
Harley is in such a crossroads as a character, she's finally escaping from being in the Shadow of the Joker, and really breaking out on her own so its so interesting to see what she becomes now in games and media. In Injustice or the HBO series, she legit joins the Bat Family and becomes a good guy, but here she becomes her own villain completely separate from the Joker or anything of her old MO, instead using her psychology for evil.
I kinda wish they stop trying to make Harley an anti hero and just straight up make her a full fledged villan. Being with the joker doesn't exactly make you come out as a sweet loving person that does good.
This game is a great portrayal, but I'd say she's not yet completely separate from the Joker here. Her final make-up and hair actually seem like an imitation of the Joker, reinforced through some of the close-up shots we get. She's either trying to become/replace Joker as a villain (in which case she might be mainly sad about Bats dying because the Joker always did schemes for personal attention from Batman and she's (unconsciously?) following that model) OR, the more heroic interpretation, she's actually trying to test the Batfamily to see if they could successfully handle another Joker-style attack in Gotham - and her lines at the end are approval of that.
That little micro expression at 2:48 says it all, she's sad that Batman is gone. You can even see her quickly collect herself almost as if she was about to shed a tear. I don't think she ever wanted to see him dead because he was the only person that reached out a hand to help her sincerely.
I absolutely love this Harley Quinn, especially due to the fact that she shows a bit of sadness when she finds out Batman is gone, I love her interaction with red hood as well so natural.
Think this game has my favorite non-villanous red hood, he's got the charm of the UTRH movie version and none of the "oh I suck" of his modern version, plus he's genuinely caring towards characters like harley.
I agree, clayface also was amazingly done. I enjoyed the game, it just felt like the narrative jumped the shark at the halfway point and kind of fizzled out, and the ending was dissappointing.
I know this is supposed to be a separate timeline from the Arkham series but this feels like a natural evolution of her character from there the years have made her more calculating and threatening
I agree with you. I’m French and I love the English original dub. But Tara Strong’s Harley sometimes grits my ears. They asked her to impersonate Sorkin’s version but it doesn’t work so well. Since the French dub is also good, I just played Batman Arkham in French and not in English.
@@parmaunited I personally think she sounds too much like her younger kid roles when she takes on Harley, like Timmy Turner for example. For me, Tara is always the best Batgirl. As I personally think Hynden Walch is the best Harley.
ok but her suit design is really good, i can see they took inspo from BTAS, and the gritty feel from the games. really like the added feature to her iconic sledgehammer being electric/having tasers! i loved the new addition of her having a heart acting as her ‘mask’! wouldve been better if she had her hair up in some way tho.

I like this sort of anarchy kind of looking Harley Quinn. If Heath Ledger’s Joker had a HQ I imagine she would’ve looked this way. There’s intelligence but clear madness in the way she looks. Just like Ledger’s Joker
It's crazy to think that this character was not even supposed to be a Dc character at first and today she has come so far. She has become one of the biggest Dc characters and had one of the best developments to this day. Its also great that she is not just "the jokers sidekick", she's her own self, being an anti-hero, a villain, and a hero(sometimes) by her own rules. It was so cute that we kind of saw her sad when she found out batman died. She has become one of the mains and well deserved. Love the voice acting and her character. Classic with modern touches harley quinn.great job
remember when people speculated if there'd be a Nolan-verse Harley? I think this might be the closest we'll ever get to that (not in terms of story, but the character, more professional angled like scarecrow was, crazy but still grounded)
After so many years of Tara Strong, I'm glad they're finally letting other female VAs try for Harley. Kari Wahlgren's a really neat fit for Harley with or without the New York accent.
I like how she's chaotic neutral. How she helps the bat family out of aligned goals & how she hurts em out of amusement. Her voice here changing psychotic scary & innocently good. Nice touch
This new Harley voice is SO MUCH better than the ones from Arkham City. I love Tara Strong, but I was never that big of a fan of her Harley Quinn. It felt kinda fake. This one, however, sounds more genuine, in a similar way to how Arleen Sorkin sounded as Harley Quinn.
I like this version of Harley while she still jokes around and stuff she's also serious or can be serious. She's also very smart and very competent. She's smart and competent in the comics as well, but her intelligence isn't shown very much. You can also tell that there is something wrong with her, I mean you can tell something wrong with her in the comics to, but here it just feels different.
The way I see is this is Harley testing them, you can tell she’s grieving batman and was holding back a lot. I like this version of Harley tbh, helping the bat family on her own way
Dick and Jason literally represent the tension between Leo and Raph in the live action movies and Tim literally is like mickey he’s the youngest and the most innocent
The end dialogue really feel like shes testing the Batfamily and their capabilities while griefing him, when shes comparing what Batman would've done if he captured her. And she gave them compliment them for capturing 'criminals' and didt refer herself as one cause well, shes misunderstood, maybe this is the only way she knows how to help the Batfamily.
To be honest there's a lot about this game I don't like, but this iteration of Harley Quinn is my favorite maybe ever. She's less effusive and whiney and feels more methodical and cunning. Still the smarmy mannerisms but it feels like it's hiding behind a veneer of actual genius, which is who she really is under the persona.
I like the almost casual workplace relationship vibe between characters in this game, it kind of makes sense, when you’ve been fighting each other for so long it’s not even really personal anymore
Harley has such an... energy in this game that makes me very attracted to her. I love how flirtatious she was with Batgirl when I was playing through as her too, though judging by this video it seems that she's a bit flirty with all of them. Kudos to the writers and whoever is voicing her.
I didn't like Harley's design in truth till I saw her fully kitted up.I loved this version of her very smart but also a massive idiot. The way she says "where you going ? You can't leave yet. You were having fun" is delivered absolutely perfect. The voice actress played her perfectly.
The outfit accentuates her more of the clown elements (big clown shoes, bellbottoms) while still looking pretty clean and agile otherwise. A nice direction other than the basic boring revealing porn parody clothing (not even necessarily bad, it's just redundant and predictable at this point, you'd think a villain in her 30s would have a more expanded sense of style) that would have been the obvious route.
Ya know this raises 2 questions First it’s nice to see that Jason holds no ill will towards Harley for what the joker did too him And second what was Harley doing while Mr J had Jason in Arkham or Afghanistan depending on the continuity
@@HighKnight yea but in the original series comic the joker killed him and his mom in the Middle East after flash point and the new fifty-two I think it was in Arkham or a random warehouse I don’t remember That’s what I meant
@@Phazer923_ghost My guess is the Joker just beat him up bad and blew the warehouse up with Jason in it. Ik in the comics Superboy resurrected Jason and Talia put Jason in the Lazarus Pit so his mind would be fixed, but here Talia resurrected him
Harley was Jason's therapist at Arkham. They have the longest history, mind you 'hidden history' than any of the bat family members. The 'black sheep' of the family if you will. Plus, don't act like any of you didn't notice Jason checking Harley out, that's not him in most interactions, but it's Harley, she's different.
I like the idea of her being a deep down cunning criminal. Even though as a kid, you felt bad for her because they played her as this lovesick fool. Then turns a good guy again when she and the Joker finally split. But this gives a depth to her that it wasn’t really the Joker she liked, she wasn’t blinded by love but she called it love when she actually wanted Joker’s power. If she actually liked the evil and wanted to use her talents to her benefit instead of to someone else.
I like how Harley compliments Batman and seem to be generally upset about him dying. From what I can tell, Batman had some trust in Harley, maybe they even had some sort of friendship.
People are hating it because other people hate it. The game is a lot of fun and the story is great. Fighting isn't as polished as it can be, but yet again, this is a new fighting style. I personally love the damage indicators and health bars. Helps me target enemies better. Another is performance. A lot of pc's can't handle the game. My ryzen 5 5600G with rx 580 8gb could handle Medium graphics 60fps perfectly and medium graphics looks great too

She seems oddly stupid.
Even in the god awful Harely Quinn show. There's a clip where she mentions something about the fake accent when she entered Bruce's mind.
Sue me lol....but it has a couple of good qualities. Yet I still hate the Harely Quinn Show😆
Gotta love how she's wearing the sleeves of a straight jacket like an accessory
Man the voice actor killed her role. Every small inflection of her voice coupled with the animation. Hands down the best portrayal of her character IMO
When I saw that Harley was in the trailer I thought Tara Strong (the voice of Harley in the Arkham series) would be voicing this Harley but I like how they got a whole new voice actor which is actually very good
arleen sorkin is the best

Finally a piece of Batman media other than Birds of Prey that treat Harley like some legit villain and don’t have her side kicking to Joker or Ivy
So I agree with you
You do you know that harley was literally made to be jokers dim-witted sidekick that's literally her whole character

I gotta say, I like how they gave Jason the TMNT movie Raphael treatment by making him physically bigger than the others.
This game shows how similar the families are with each other
So Jason is Ralph
He also sound like Tmnt 2003 Raphael.
Yeah, at one point I would say that Harley is misunderstood. But after everything that she and Joker did, I would say other wise. I love how she reacted with sadness when she realized that "Bats" really is dead. It shows how much she cared about him, well, cared enough to mess with him.
Yeah, and I think that if they knew it each other in med school, her reaction to his death would take on a much more tragic meaning.

Hey are you still around?
i like to think they are, they joke around (kind of) and i think its funny
I like how jason and Harley interact even Harley is a great evolution of her character, she still batshit crazy but matured into her own villian.
Hey are you still around?
I kinda wish they stop trying to make Harley an anti hero and just straight up make her a full fledged villan. Being with the joker doesn't exactly make you come out as a sweet loving person that does good.
@Zou agreed. Each can be very good if written well.
@coffintears5821 I agree, she's got innocent blood on her hands. Something Harley simps keep forgetting
Are you still around?

I absolutely love this Harley Quinn, especially due to the fact that she shows a bit of sadness when she finds out Batman is gone, I love her interaction with red hood as well so natural.
Honestly, this game portrays a lot of characters really well. There's a fresh take to many of them and it fits.
P hresh
Think this game has my favorite non-villanous red hood, he's got the charm of the UTRH movie version and none of the "oh I suck" of his modern version, plus he's genuinely caring towards characters like harley.
I agree, clayface also was amazingly done. I enjoyed the game, it just felt like the narrative jumped the shark at the halfway point and kind of fizzled out, and the ending was dissappointing.

Then turns a good guy again when she and the Joker finally split. But this gives a depth to her that it wasn’t really the Joker she liked, she wasn’t blinded by love but she called it love when she actually wanted Joker’s power.
