Texture filtering is cancer. I will never understand what stops people from playing a game just because it uses sprites and pixel graphics. Everything nowadays has to be ultra 4K HD realistic. Even game devs don’t get the obsession with graphics, the more realistic a game is, the less of a game it actually is.

"Doom EGA" is actually a mod called "EGA Doom" created by Sigavtr in 2011. It just happened to be uploaded to moddb.com in Oct 2021 by p2l, who made sure to give credit to the original author on the mod page. The mod is nothing more than a set of palette and colormap lumps, yielding some pretty powerful results with relatively minimal effort. Protip: if using GZDoom, be sure to run EGA Doom in the 256-color software renderer (not the true color one) so it actually uses the included colormap to determine how to select colors within the palette when applying lighting. On the thought of downgrading Doom's graphics and sound capabilities, this reminds me: I've had an idea floating around in my head for a while about making a mod that gives Doom a complete set of Adlib OPL2 FM sound effects. Unfortunately, FM synths are notoriously difficult to program, and Adlib tracker software uses bizarre, nonstandard hotkeys and lacks mouse support, so learning how to use one is no easy task. I could just rip existing sound effects from other games, but that would be lazy and uninspired.
