Paul brought that Dragon to my high school for an assembly in 2003 and let me and other kids hold and play it. Couldn’t believe he’d trust us with that thing. All he said was “just don’t break it. Thats a $30,000 guitar”. 😂 such a cool guy to do that in his community.
Man Paul sounds like an absolute legend. I remember being about 15 years old (I started playing at 6) and saw my dad's friend playing a proper American Strat. I'd never seen one before because nice guitars are very hard to come by where I live. Asked him if I could play a bit and he's like maybe when you're older. Hated that guy ever since :P Now that I'm older if a kid ever came up to me asking to play my guitars I'd be more than happy to let them play.
The SE line has single handedly made the entire industry produce a higher quality instrument. PRS used to be the only guitar I would buy online because I knew it could be set up perfectly.
LOL- What rubbish- you're a fan boy junior. By the time the SE line came out there were already great guitars on the market for insane prices- Sire, Squier, Yamaha, etc. - those are the companies that pushed ppl to produce higher quality at lower prices- not PRS.
@@stoneysdead689I work in the gear industry. When a PRS comes in, there’s no setup or cleaning to be done whatsoever. When any of those others come in, they usually look like they’ve been collecting dust in the box for a year or more and they need major intonation and truss adjustments. Especially Fender, those basically need revamped before they’re even put on the wall. And this is coming from a Fender fanboy, I’m just not gonna lie and say that PRS doesn’t have an easily noticable level of immense care that they take with their instruments. I’ve never seen that care be demonstrated by another company ever. Atleast not until you hit the ≈$2500 price range.
You are wrong. It depends on the seller. I bought 2 DGT SE at 2 different music stores, one was perfect adjusted, the other had a bow neck ……They all sound different. That is the problem with the SE line, you have to test a lot to find a really good one.
Except they're not.
I love mine. But out of 3 that I own, I had to return 2 DOA, and all 5 had to be set up. Some had ridiculously high action.
@@bg90209 Considering they cost twice what the guitars I mentioned cost- they should come already setup and ready to play. Sorry- not impressed.
I remember back in the early 2000s, PMT in Birmingham (UK) had one of those Dragons in a glass cabinet with a list price of around £20-25K. Simply bonkers! Incredible craftsmanship. I remember looking at it for ages and admiring all the detail. Not my kind of thing, but amazingly impressive nonetheless. There's nothing else like it in the industry, and whilst I don't play a PRS, I respect them as builders so highly for this sort of attention to detail. They're true artisans👏🏼.
They weren't called PMT then. I never had the nerve to ask the sole female employee at my local store what she thought of the male geniuses who came up with that name for the chain...
When I did my work experience in that store 12ish years ago it was still there in the cabinet - I've never dusted anything so carefully in my life!
Lee, you killed it on that play out with Pete!
Very nice.
Lee and Pete: well done! Of all the trips you've taken to factories you seem to be totally at home with Paul Smith and his factory! Home! You and Paul have a deeper relationship than "builder-marketor"! You deeply like and respect each other. I've enjoyed these videos tremendously! Thanks for producing this content and sharing with your public!🎼🎶🎵🎸💖
Absolutely an astounding accomplishment on the SE models. Thank you Jack!
Great vid, Anderton's team. Thank you, Jack for producing such great SE guitars. My SE 245 is beautiful, plays/sounds great, and didn't break the bank.
Wonderful video ! Always enjoyable guys.
So this the man I need to thank for my SE. Thank you Jack!
I love how you are managed to make great videos so frequently! Good stuff.
I can't think of any current PRS guitars that have P90s in them, yet that Sorcerer's Apprentice sounded absolutely killer! They should totally make a version of that 594 with double P90s.
I remember first seeing pictures of that PRS Dragon when I was about 17 years old, and that was arguably one of the big influences for me to get into playing guitar, because that thing looked so damn cool!
the #5 Custom 24 sounds incredible. Thank you Lee and Pete for all the incredible videos! I love this channel
Amazing playing from you both ❤
Thank you for taking us on a wonderful tour of the PRS factory.
Picked up my prs se standard tobacco yesterday from Andertons it is beautiful and thanks to Dave for all your help.
It's inspiring to see Lee's playing improve each year.
That #5 has such a violin feel to it. I love it!
I bought an SE Standard 24 in 2020. I love the mahogany wood grain on the top and back. I love the way it plays and the variety of tones. Thanks for the video !!
Thanks for the lovely comments about Eastern MD! We like it here!😊
PRS SE Factory tour in Indonesia is top notch. They show majority of the steps and so entertaining
SE line was always amazing from the first gen. Revolutionized the guitar industry. These se's sound and look amazing. One day I want a core. The only questions is what one!
Being from Baltimore I’ve always wanted to do a Maryland rig, PRS and a Tone King amp.
Edit: add Triode Pedals into that
PRS is single-handedly responsible for my desire to own way more guitars than I would ever need. Wonderful video, team! Best music content on YT by far!
Great jam!
Sitting here on the edge of forever in Fayetteville North Carolina! Man, that Iri-Blue is a beautiful color.
right up here in Winston Salem myself ! Cheers !
Serial number 5 sounded AMAZING
Damn, that Sorcerer's Apprentice might be the best sounding PRS I've ever heard.
Imo - and I know PRS would hate me for saying this - the best guitars I've ever played were all mid to late 90s and early 2000s PRS guitars. I don’t know if it's the guitars ageing or something but they all sound absolutely out of this world
I have a Gibson SG. My most "expensive" guitar outside of that is the PRS S2 Vela. However, the SE Multifoil is my main guitar. Excellent quality and the pickups are the best of any guitar I have.
Massive thanks to Jack for the creation of the SE line. My Tremonti SE Custom is the guitar I could never part with. I love it.
I’m patiently waiting for an SE Miles Kennedy!
@@martyshwaartz971 Same here my friend!! All in good time.
And thank him for making sure they're really guitars professionals can play, there's nothing "beginner" about them.
Those new SEs are just phenomenal looking. It shows the confidence they have in their core line that they’re not worried about diluting their market - they’re just capturing more players who become lifelong customers. It’s a brilliant brand strategy move.
As always super interesting. I really like Serial No.5, with that "sweet switch" was it? Gives it a very nice honk.
Thank you jack and paul. The prs se line has made prs available to me and allowed me to enjoy a wonderful instrument.
And a thank you also goes out to ted mccarty for being such a pioneer in the first place. The mccarty 594 in blue is my current favorite in the line and the dgt is on my short list for whats next.
My only issue with PRS is I don't have more of them.... yet. Great video. SE is my line of choice. Maybe some day a core or S2.
Love my PRS SE standard 24 . Not my first guitar or my best, but I do love to play it! For someone coming from ESP, Jackson and Charvel, the PRS brings out a whole new style to my playing.
Give us more color options on the SE DGT please!
The SE Irsh Blue swamp ash sounds great. I'd put a 5 way switch in it though.
Boy, I REALLY want to figure out a way to justify buying a Swamp Ash Special…love the tone
Good video guys. I have the Swamp Ash Special in that same colour. Great guitar. Better looking in person. Required absolutely zero set up out of the box. And its heavier than you would think.
Captain is KILLING it on that 16:00 minute jam
Wow
LOVING THE GREEN MEANY, WITH THE MAPLE NECK ITS SPOT ON, LOVCED THE VID BOYS EPIC.
That SAS sounds killer.
Jack's the man to listen to... Always has been.
Paul used to drive up and down the coast selling and delivering guitars to dealers. I had the chance to buy a yellow top CU24 he just delivered to Wethersfield Music in CT. 749! I bought a strat for the same price instead lol.
I absolutely love the SE series. They sound MAGNIFICENTS.
Not an entry level guitar. I can easily live with one of these all my life.
Being the entry level prs is not the same thing as being an entry level guitar.
@@Lick-My-Love-Pump well let's take the dictionary definition "suitable for a beginner or first-time user; basic"
As was mentioned in the interview, SE's are played by touring professionals. They're not beginner-only/basic instruments. Also mentioned in the interview (paraphrasing) "the £500-£1000 price point isn't your first guitar, it's your first proper guitar"
PRS dropped the Student Edition tag years ago. I'm pretty sure it was even Jack H who said that in an interview. The early Santana SE's would absolutely fit the dictionary classification as "basic". They weren't deemed fit to even carry Smith's signature. Times have changed and PRS themselves don't view the current generation of SEs as basic beginner guitars. SE now just means SE. The student edition is historical.
@@Lick-My-Love-Pump there is no mention of "student edition" on the prs website. Both Google and the prs search bar give 0 results.
What you originally said is no longer there. You've edited your first post.
I played one of the Bernie Marsden Private Stock once. Unbelievable guitar.
wow! I was once sat in a little towns bus station Parga in Greece and whilst I was waiting for the bus to arrive to take us across Greece to catch a boat to Bari in Italy I wrote two songs. One called 'Blue bus To Parga' and another called 'Irie Blue' !! I think it was a premonition for me to, 25 years later, finish and record the song and I have a feeling it was meant to be finished using a certain PRS guitar. (Well that's the excuse I'm gonna use, so you better back me up when She gets on to it!!
Wondering which present-day model might come close to the sound of that Sorcerer's Apprentice? I'd be happy with that on 22 frets.
Those old guitars sound incredible
I have a PRS SE Custom 24-08 it's the best I can afford. Can't complain it does the job VERY well.
good god that violet color is to die for
I ditched my MIM Fender Lone Star for the SE Silver Sky and just picked up the CE SE. They are amazing guitars for the price!
Nice, that Jack mentioned the 513. It's the most underrated - and unfortunatly discontinued - guitar PRS ever made. It offers Lee's go to layout HSH, but delivers way more voices. Still astonishing.
Lee you have come a long way on guitar....😎
I saw one of those dragon PRS guitars at a museum in Arizona
They even had a double neck with tails of each dragon starting on the necks and leading to both dragons on the body 🐉 🐲
That #5 guitar, bridge pickup with the switch up(?) sounded great … So, what pickups are in that? Are they the same pickups that are in a current Custom 24? Or are they a pickup option, at least?
Those new SE models look superb. I love my SE DGT and SE Hollowbody II Piezo. Thanks to Jack Higginbotham for making such great guitars at an affordable price. It's really nice to see the vintage guitars out of their display cases and being given a proper workout! 😎
That riff in the jam around 35 minutes in, hopefully I'm not the only one to hear it, but it's definitely the "baby bottle pop" jingle.
I love my US made CE24, swapped my US made standard for it a few years ago
I really, really, REALLY want them to make a Sorcerer's Apprentice in some kind of production someday...
I'm such a sucker for the turquoise swamp ash models, but not as big of a fan of the inverted fretboards, I want a dark fretboard with light bird inlays... I'm literally stuck. Sad story.
Dude has one cool job
36:11 - Oh shit! I actually played one of those a million years ago!! It was...like...as expensive as a new Camry at the time. 🤣 Played great and looked INSANE!!
I looked at that dragon so many times on their web page back in the day!
The sorcerer’s apprentice sounded great.
I got an old SE as a makeweight in a trade the other year. I have several more valuable guitars, but I am gradually coming around to thinking it is actually my best guitar
Now we need a hardtail Dusty Warring SE
Was hoping Pete would play a little of Queens Dragon Attack on that PRS Dragon
Damn im upset I missed yall in my state.
23:04 that reaction says it all.
All I need now is a PRS Studio SE and my collection will be complete. Love the SE range. They're great guitars and as close as anyone can get to core quality I think.
The Iri blue would be so much cooler if it were "Eerie Blue" because Cleveland (the city of rock and roll) sits on the shore of Lake Eerie. C'mon, that's perfect! Someone tell the man!
Erie
I’d have these over a Les Paul any day of the week
I really think stop tail should be an option on these new models.
Mary Land. Bahaha. I love Lee so much. Everyday he makes my day.
They should do a core limited run of the sorcerers apprentice
Lee, please ask if they will do a SE McCarty 594 DC in purple iris like Andre Madatian plays!!!!
Please! I’ll find a way to pay for it!!!
"sweet switch" resembles the tone control being rolled down to "3" as opposed to being full up.
Please give us a lemon top! Please :)
Please bros review Alabs series pedals. Reverb, delay, pitch shift and modulation. Stereo pedal with multifunction all for about $99 dollars.
I love prs guitar s😊
We need a sorcerers apprentice reissue.
that 85 with Lee playing was magic!!
Lee: Mary - Land
PRS guy - exactly right!
Don't encourage him 😂
The best sounding guitar is always the one that is in Pete's hands. Amazing player. I could pick that Swamp Ash up and never sound like that
will be great to do TAYLOR GUITAR factory please as well
The sorcerer’s apprentice needs to be made.
Still no left handed silver sky se though 😢
I heard say the CE came from a prototype Eddie Van Halen model.
I love my PRS SE hollow
Best $1k guitar ever
However…..the original wiring and pots was holding it back, I replaced the wiring with a cloth covered aftermarket kit……also a bargain ……it was like a new guitar bought in 2019, maybe better now.
But where to cut the cost? So I get it, wiring or not, it’s a superlative guitar, for me upgrading the wiring was a no brainer
Pete should have played "Dragon Attack" on the Dragon. Of course that would have gotten the video de-monitized.
I became family with the SE model. Family…
PRS SE line changed my mind about cheaper guitars. The quality is just so good that me as a living room/church occasional guitarist have all I want. I have an S2 and SE and find no difference in quality. No way can I justify paying $2k+ for my guitars. And with the SE line I don’t need to!
Staggeringly expensive "historic" guitars for lawyers and similar to play about on at the weekend. From a business standpoint, it's smart for PRS to make/sell them, but they're still just a couple of humbuckers, a neck and a body. The SEs are every bit as good as functional instruments.
Well that’s one way of saying you’ve got a few more colors.
I have a Gibson Les Paul Standard, an American Standard Strat and a PRS Custom 24 SE and I notice no difference in quality between the 2 American models and the SE. In fact the SE is that good I don't see what is to be gained by buying a Core model. It's simply an excellent and affordable guitar.
No super eagle?
Indonesia temperatures compared to Maryland is soo different. Quality control has got to be a major issue.
😮
In Brazil SE is top of LINE... It's Very expensive, it's almost impossible for a musician to buy a core model
Unfortunately the weight is all over the place with that Swamp Ash Special... If you're going to buy that, I'd suggest making sure you're okay with the weight first... and buying if from somewhere that actually provides the weight.
