Forgot to mention that the Maiming Strike prices were that high on PC after the acolytes vanished from the event and vanished again from reappearances (Im not sure what the prices were like for other platforms)

Didn't care about range changes, as i benefitted from them. But crit changes did hit my build hard.
Also times when Equinox was OP AF.
Then they nerfed her dark side hard with self-damage removal
I joined Warframe right at the height of the maiming strike meta and when i had finally grinded out the kit for it they nerfed it like three days later 😂

Yup, I think we all have felt the pain. I don't really roll rivens because when I started Melee was meta, then AoE, then Incarnons, and every change hits me right in the rivs (especially the AoE nerf). Now it looks like ability buffed melee could be the next meta?

I still reflexively slide attack sometimes because it was so ingrained into me back then.
I didn't even -have- maiming strike, but everyone was spinning so I thought I had to as well.
Me too, it’s a bad habit that rears its head sometimes. I just do it thinking it’ll boost damage like the old days 😂.
spin attacks are still powerful and worth using, they are the best way to break some animations and continue your combos, of course bullet jump followed by aerial attacks are equally as good
I've played warframe for so long i still slide attack regularly even though i know bulletjump ,roll + aimglide is faster 😂
@@bloody4558yeah I use slam attacks a lot cause aimed right you just fly long distances in a fraction of the time since it goes faster than falling

ome attack animations can be cancelled by slide, so you can combo into a slide attack with quite a few weapons with no loss of DPS. More importantly some weapons have stronger spin attack values, which makes it all the more valuableto go for it.
The Maiming strike hoarders took the heaviest blow (such as myself). I used to be extremely salty about this and was the final nail in the coffin for me taking a huge break from the game since they also took my simulor away from me. Now looking back at it the spin2win meta was really the pinnacle of brainrot gameplay

Spin2win was less brain rot than the current "explode the entire room with endless red crits" meta.

Ahh I slightly miss the days of spin 2 win. Brings back memories of when I was starting to get into the end game of Warframe. The only thing I'm sad about is the fact Scott said that "Maiming strike will still be a viable play style" but it's basically a wasted mod slot now to use Maiming Strike.
The real nerf in my opinion was the LOS update for melee slide hits, that is what made Maiming Strike super efficient, but 2.99999+ was definitely an overkill nerf

I just returned back to the game a week ago, since ~2017. Still had my Atterax loaded and still does pretty solid good damage.
I remember playing warframe and falling in love with the gameplay and later the story. During my time I hadn't realized it but spin 2 win was definitely the most fun when playing back then. I know there were a lot of people that were mad at it back then too but you can't lie, seeing red numbers while going that fast was one of the most warframe has ever warframed. Anyway thanks for the nostalgic video.
I dont think charge attacks which got changed to channeling and back into charge attacks requires its own video. But i remember asking scott "Hey ....uh could we get charge attacks back along with channelling?"
And then he went "charge attacks are dead. Long live channelling"
Aaaaand then we got charge attacks back a year or two later cause they realised it was not great 🤣

I loved this meta so much. Atterax, Orthos Prime, Guando, Galatine. those were the days. I quit warframe since I stopped playing PS4 years ago. Only came back now for cross-save and I still had Maiming Strike equipped on my Orthos Prime. Great memories seeing red crits through walls. RIP the most fun meta of Warframe, even though removing it was probably for the best.

Your videos always take Ame back. I don't play anymore but I started playing back in the open beta when exca prime was available to be bought and throughout the years I've played a lot.
Man the noobshowtek clip really reminds me back in the days where he helped me with most of his build. Still I had a chance to use maiming strike a lot with atterax/kronen + nekros and chroma + secura lecta, back when my fingers got muscles.
I would really enjoy more content on weapons and mods that changed warframe alongside the usual warframe videos

I was around when everyone (including me) doing memeing strike, really happy when I returned years later and found out Melee 3.0 basically killed it. I wonder if the new Tennokai will be the next "only" meta like this tho, I haven't touch it but it seems very potent.
It's not a specific meta, it's just free extra gravy for all melee weapons, which is nice!

Tennokai is handled much better atleast for now they provide a big enough boost for melee to be competitive again while not overshadowing any other weapon type
Seeing NoobIShowTek here is such a blast in the past. There were a lot of people asking DE some leniency for the ban but they didn't budge at all.
Also, as much as I hate Maiming Strike meta, seeing a Mirage with Telos Boltace running around in Akkad makes me happy cause I can just afk and they don't even mind at all.
That name is still ingrained into my brain because he was the only content creator I ever met ingame (in a empty public Orb Vallis instance lol).
Chatted a bit, found out he was german too, he invited me to his discord.
2 hours later he posts his exploit abuse video and is instantly banned.
Man this brings back memories, while even back then I never used Meme strike sticking mostly to guns the old combo system and the combo of Blood ruch+Body count was everywhere and IPS procing 4 times more than elements

I remember at roughly that time self damage also got removed and literally the day I got my trinity link build done they removed it entirely. I was pretty new back then and didnt play any meta build before
I have Maiming Strike but haven't used it much until I watched this video. I even rolled on some melee rivens that decrease the crit chance when sliding, but also have a lot of crit themselves so the negatives don't matter 👍

I remember this so well. Slide slashing at a wall with bonus range on Orthos and just killing everything.
I remember spending hours on the old Infested Derelict missions using my maiming strike atterax Nekros to farm mutagen samples just to build the hema. Good times.

I started playing Warframe around early 2017. Shadowstep was still a thing and my friends were all using it while I was trying to gear up.
Couple months of me loving melee gameplay, particularly polearms and the atterax, melee rivens were added and I got one for the scoliac within my first 5 - I was aware of maiming strike being a thing but the prices were nearly at a thousand plat by then. Shortly after though, the acolytes made their first return, I got the mod first try, rolled my scoliac riven to be dmg/range/as and suddenly I was playing a whole different game - it was absolutely crazy, nothing would come close to the speed and power of the scoliac.
I think half of my 6000+ hours in Warframe were spent during the scoliac meta, occasionally I still miss it but many of my friends were thankful to no longer have to deal with the "spinning menace" deleting every enemy on screen before they get to shoot at them 😂

A someone has been playing for about three weeks, the end game still looks crazy
i remember becoming a more active player when this meta was at its height i still have my zaw from this era i enjoyed it at the time but looking back it definitely needed to go and i enjoy the melee meta now
The first time i came back to Warframe was just after the 2nd Dream. I just bought the new mods and installed them in my Atterax. Never saw the Stalkers group until last year.

You did forget to mention the ridiculous combo of Telos Boltace and Saryn, where spinning basically nuked almost the whole tileset, since it did pop the spores even further away
Maiming Strike... I remember this is what made me switch slide and sprint to mouse 4 and 5 cuz my pinky would get sore from the spam. I still use mouse button 4 for sliding to this day

8:15 This is inexact. Maiming strike was a flat increase that was applied after normal crit mods, like we now have with Arcane Avenger
The confusion comes from the fact blood rush was applied AFTER flat increases for some unfathomable reason

...and they realized that Maiming Strike could be acquired from them. Behold the fiery torrent of lead and violence as it rained down upon them.
I played back in the day (2014?) and when i finally got the final part of orthos prime to drop, the handle I think, I hooted and hollered
it was that good of a melee, bar none
using a high str banshee for sonar and her augment also made gas STUPIDLY deadly all those X's of damage now add another 10X-20X on top of all of that. i remember having a loadout dedicated to that setup. easy billion damage swings
_(sighs)_ Maiming Strike Banshee... that setup carried me pretty hard once I figured out how to make everything work. I even had a custom zaw (I called it the "Silence Glaive". Do you get it?) specifically designed to take advantage of Maiming Strike and Savage Silence. Focus farming, solo ESO+ runs... I even managed to pull off a 1hr Derelict run (remember that?) _and_ get all of Octavia's parts at once. Life support was a non-issue because enemies were dropping modules like rain. Good times. I still have that zaw too - it's trash now, but I keep it for sentimental value.
You will forever be missed, Maiming Strike Banshee. I hope that I served you as well as you served me.
alot of the time boltors melee were used as there slide pull enemeys in and they got reworked about 3 times maining strike had a price at one point of 600p that i saw but iv heard after the meta some people i knew sold for 700p-800p but i can't confirm on that i remember boltors way more then solice but another one was the lector with its credit bonus passive it used to be used on infested def or void defense as the credit bonus and the void had parts so it was a mssive grind
I remember being so invested in this meta that is built my own macro for it ahahah. Back when you could hit through walls I had made and AFK machine where I could confidently leave my PC for up to an hour without worrying about death, while my frame just spun and won against a wall ahahah.
Then they kinda did it again with shedu lol, almost every survival has a chinese shedu bot here in asia it kinda makes me fed up.

wow, i feel like i was always just behind on every meta. i remember all this stuff being things that happened and the named weapons. i even remember how the game was during those early days with that footage you showed early in the video. Wow i'm old. i remember the stamina system, i played Mesa back when all you had to do was turn the ability on and hold left click. i remember when Ember had a form of Kullervo's 4 as her 4, but fire instead of daggers. Why didn't DE just change it back instead of doing the meteor thing she has now?
It took me a while to get Memeing Strike as I came in a bit late, but I did get the chance to play around and have my fun with it for a while. It was nice, but I do think the game is better off for the nerf.
I do somewhat wish they had managed without completely getting rid of melee through terrain, but I can't really think of a midpoint that wouldn't have been awkwardly complicated. Maybe if they could have just made it so melee range mods got blocked, but the base range still went through? Just something so that you wouldn't occasionally have your weapon fail to hit an enemy on the other side of a flimsy railing or something that just barely intersects with the hit line of the specific weapon you have equipped, and have to break your flow to turn around and come back to them.
Selling them Scoliac riven was a bliss
Watching my younger brother use the farm method for Maiming Strike when it first came out (see what rarity mod dropped, then abandon or complete if it was gold or not) made me realize Maiming Strike was absolutely bonkers if it resulted in such methods in order to maximize chances of acquiring it. And how powerful FOMO is as an engagement tool.

First one i remember was mag with her 2 skills pulling enemies all the time so they do nothing, and next the loki one shooting everyone

I remember that everyone used to be sliding on the floor 😂 but im glad now we got combos is better to have combos
I'm proud to say that proper skillful use of combos and aerial movent could and would defeat the spin to win builds. Of course, only if you were using certain warframes, such as Volt and Valkyr, but you could beat Maiming Strike with plunge attacks and the right Stance combos.
I remember when I first heard about melee 2.9999~ It was a blessing and a curse because it was only a little time after I had gotten meme strike.. But my first thought wasn't 'they're taking away my strength!' it was 'finally I can stop playing maiming strike!'
Maiming strike was nice for the fact that you could run it on any frame and it worked. Nezha for example was pretty trashy back then but a maiming melee made the frame not matter so you could style with whoever you wanted.

I started when nova prime was dropped, my 1st prime weapon was nikana. I never took part with the whips, as well as maiming strike. I sold every argon scope and maiming strike I obtained. Glad I didn't get used to a meta that became useless.

I joined Warframe about a week before Operation: Ambulas Reborn hit (Update 20.4). I remember at the time that the price of Maiming Strike fell to an average of 150-200 platinum, but I think it was because it's when DE made it so that the Acolytes pop up annually.
Thankfully I was able to farm for my own copy of Maiming Strike without having to pay platinum for it and had a... decent setup for it on an Atterax. Honestly it wasn't my cup of tea since (if memory serves me correctly) even if hitting through walls was still a thing back then, I wasn't a fan of having to spam "E" nonstop. I felt the Spin2Win meta was more of an excuse to give yourself carpal tunnel syndrome.
Still have my gram riven with critchance/range/slidecrit, that thing was a redcrit monster.
Ahh I remember this clearly haha back when everyone is getting carpal tunnel by spamming slide attacks while zipping through the entire map. I remember it's not just the atterax some use the boltace telos for that AOE slash I think the range can be improved with range mods back then

Maiming strike or not, spin attacking back in the day to instantly fly across a room faster than Zephyr dash was incredibly fun, and painful. The reason I stopped playing back then was my pinky was starting to hurt holding sprint and tapping crouch sop much.
I'd love for Dual Zorens to be primed though, the look of two golden hand axes would be amazing

One thing I think you didn't address is that Shadow Step only became active once you used your Focus ability in the mission… which you could not do until 5 minutes had passed. So Shadow Step was never active in the first 5 minutes. Yeah, Focus 1.0 was weird. Shadow Step was my bread and butter for what seemed like years.
Maiming strike is how I mastered warframe movement
This just opened up my eyes to how long Overframe has been around. Lesion is still listed as S tier despite almost nobody making content about it nowadays. Like, I knew it must've been powerful at one point but damn didn't realize it was that long ago.
Also, it was glorious witnessing Deimos come along and tank the prices of weeping wounds and blood Rush, which I never used before that point.
Its a shame that Maiming Strike is now useless compared to other mods, would really love to have some of its power back for stormpath or reworked to provide a better benefit to slide attacks.
Covert Lethality is another mod that I am intrigued to know about its past and how it was left in its state for so long before DE realizing, oh crap there is a one shot that exists and needing to nerf it, at least that mod is still usable compared to Maiming strike.
Lesion is still a monster, it's basically guandao prime, before guandao prime.
I've been lucky and got a sheev riven that has like uh 200+% finisher damage so my riven + Ash basically reverted the change to covert lethality 😂
Bro around this time I never used guns, literally no one used guns, everyone was just random gusts of different colors spinning around everywhere.
I legit 1 shot the mutalist Alad-V sortie boss with my Kronen Prime Riven. So busted.
Spin to win and Simulor mirage were the best metas of warframe xD

Hot take: this mod should be buffed back to where it was but it should be made into a whip mod.
Ive been playing since aug 3 2014 and holy shit i do not miss spin to win, coptering was fun and fine since it was just a utility and while it drastically limited the use of most melee weapons it allowed you to e joy everything else just fine, but then omg if you didnt enjoy sliding 9999 times per mission but you join and see a valk with an atterax you may aswell go AFK, IMO it wasnt fun to do and wasnt fun to be around
Edit: i remember ceramic dagger being extremely good at coptering. Obviously it was otherwise useless but for some reason it was god tier movement

I do miss a lot of weapons being good thanks to letting them have crit that now just forgotten and gathering dust. Anyone even remember Serro existing? Though with all the new changes and some of the new arcanes and incarnons, they could probably bring it back and just have it not equipable with Blood Rush/Gladiator Mods and it probably would still barely get touched outside of being an actual meme.

honestly the ember meta on relics was much more cancerous imo i could run a whole mission without seeing a mob if i had a try hard ember in grp
i preferred polearms to whips for my spin2win as their slide had more consistent height somehow while whips had more range their attack seemed very thin sometimes missing stuff if slightly in the air, still use the mewan zaw from that time due to decent riven but without maiming now
