    One day someone will build a car and in the advert it will say, easy to maintain, The EGR, air filter, fuel filter even the headlight bulbs are all easily accessible, just like they used to be in the 1970s, the person who designs it will be in to home maintenance of their own car !

      I could not recommend your comment more! It is exactly what I am thinking. I honestly think that the car manufacturers do this on purpose, so ordinary folk cannot do their own maintenance and have to go the stealership. Do not get me started on how they design/make the cars.

    Thanks man! It was really helpful, I wouldn't try to do this before I have watched this. Now I can tell that those three screw holding the electronic part are really hard to unscrew.. It likes to get broken. And also it is true that you can get out the EGR without getting out air filter can, even more! I managed to do it without removing fuel wires from fuel filter and without removing fuel filter.

    • @moremolecules

      Hi Damian, thanks for the heads up. You could potentially get the EGR valve out without removing the different filters, but it is more difficult. Depending on the model, it is fairly tight space.

    • @moremolecules

      I was in general thinking of short videos of showing where the different bits are, but will have to see.
      The oil pressure switch is at the front of the engine on the block, left from the turbo. It is pretty tight there, so you may need to remove the front exhaust with the shields in order to get access to it. It is just above the oil dipstick, or where the dipstick tube goes inside the block of the engine, just above that.

    • @moremolecules
      @moremolecules  Рік тому

      Yes, with a new EGR you may want to do the recalibration. Otherwise the ECU might not know where the upper and lower positions are. Faults are likely to reset on their own, but it will not correct itself without recalibration.

    Thanks for the video. Is a hole in the plastic top caused by the air filter housing rubbing likely to cause a problem?

    • @moremolecules
      @moremolecules  5 років тому +1

      Hi Algarve and thank you for the very good question! You are absolutely correct, it is caused by the air filter box rubbing on the EGR valve. I have addressed this and explained how it happens here: ua-cam.com/video/qBNSyRF79VQ/v-deo.html
      It is a very common issue and I have seen it properly digging a hole, but it is rather difficult to say how much of a problem it is. Some of the electronic bits and pieces are on the EGR cap (for some of the designs as there are different designs), so the airbox can potentially distort or damage some of the electronics, so it could make the EGR to stop working. I do not think it makes a difference to the airflow/gasses, as the top does not get involved in the recirculation of air/exhaust gasses. All in all, my humble opinion is that it should be amended and not let the airbox create a hole in the EGR valve. All the best.

    Hi there great in depth video. How long in real time would it take me to fit a new EGR Valve, i am very mechanically minded and just wanted to save garage labour prices if i can and also how much roughly is a new EGR Valve 16HDI. 09 Plate Partner Van. Thanks.

    • @moremolecules
      @moremolecules  5 років тому +1

      Hi Steven, good question actually. If you had the clic-r-type tool, if of course yours is that type, I would say max 2h for the whole thing. In reality it will be probably less, it is a bit fiddly here and there. If I were you I would buy an EGR valve by Hella. I bought theirs and have not looked back since. I am not too sure about the 09 Partner, it may be slightly different than mine, but price-wise is ~£150-160. It is a bit steep, but it is a good quality valve. I bought a Haas one, which had a manufacturer's fault, one of the mechanical parts was sticking, thus I can only recommend the one I know works.
      Also, you would need Digabox/PP2000 in order to re-code the new EGR valve. If you had the software working, then it is another 15-20min to tell the ECU that there is a replacement EGR valve. It is not that much work, but it is fiddly to find the actual menu to reconfigure the replacement EGR.

    • @moremolecules
      @moremolecules  5 років тому

      @@stevensmith277 It could potentially, but at this mileage I would have a more careful look at the turbo. If you have the diagbox/PP2000 I would check the boost values. If the EGR is faulty, there should be an error in the logs associated with the EGR. I would also look at the intercooler and potentially clean/drain it. With this mileage the intercooler efficiency will be reduced due to oil build up from the PCV valve and/or small leaks from the turbo seals (compressor side).

      Hi Lawrence, I meant to check if the pin slides ok in the channel of the EGR valve. Blocking the EGR valve might have some unintended consequences, among other things it may overall increase fuel consumption when driving on say a motorway. I think there was a really good video in my liked videos, where this was explained in fairly good detail.
      I have a few videos, but will have to do them one by one, too many other things going on at the moment. Main one that is coming is proper longer-term crankcase pressure and some other oil catch can modifications. I will have to do the coolant fairly soon, so this will be coming as well.

      It could increase fuel consumption, but it will depend on if it is stuck on open or closed position or somewhere in between.

      Hi mikeyp, I still have the old clic-r type clamp and can measure it if you want, but the new one I put on and it was the perfect size is part number: 16283J. Let me know and I can measure the original one.

      Ps thanks for replying. I might use a jubilee clip or a cable tie. Does the egr get hot?

      @@mikey2811 Not too sure if wire cutters would work, it is pretty solid metal bracket, but it might work. I only used the tool once and as you said pretty wasted money. I bought a new EGR and it was sticking on the 6th month, cleaned it, still sticking at ~30%. I think the channel was not entirely smooth and could not slide back as easy. If you clean yours and it is still sticking, check if the channel is clean and the pin inside can slide just by shaking it. That is what happens in the car.
      I think you may have some success with a combination of wire cutters and a screwdriver. I think I have seen people unclipping it with a screwdriver, but it did not budge when I tried it. Not too sure if a jubilee clip or a cable tie will work, as there are lips on the EGR intercooler and the EGR itself. The clip holds or goes over both lips. The EGR valve gets pretty hot, hot gasses pass through. Hope this helps, but let me know, I can measure the tool/original clip.

    Thank you, I’ve pretty much give up with this valve. Cleaned twice thoroughly, checked solenoid and all working, delete codes and mil back on. There are other codes showing but the code relevant to this will not go.
    I intend to cap this, only drawback is re map, as this can only do a stage 1 which is basically a tune up and delete egr, the cost is £150 quite shocking for a box to be unticked.
    On a lighter note, how about a rocker cover gasket replacement ? Seems to be a common problem.
    By the way the clip on the egr/cooler, I am sure you highlighted an alternative one that did not require the clic tool, if I am correct have you the part number or further info.
    Thank you, will update you on the re map and closure of the valve.

    • @moremolecules
      @moremolecules  5 років тому

      Hi Lawrence, you may want to check if the channel that holds the pin (for the valve itself) is smooth and the pins slides smoothly. I had a brand new EGR valve and was consistently returning an error, e.g. stuck at ~35%. The grooved channel was not drilled quite smoothly and sometimes the pin could not get past an imperfection.
      The alternative that does not require the clic tool is 16283J.

    What is the erg

    • @moremolecules
      @moremolecules  9 місяців тому

      EGR stands for Exhaust Gas Recirculation valve. It simply re-routes some of the exhaust gasses to go back into the engine instead of fresh air to reduce the temperature of combustion within the cylinders and hence a reduction in NOx gasses and sometimes reduces pumping losses from an engine during engine braking.

      There could be a lot of symptoms, ranging from rough idling to no power or limp mode if it has broken in an open state. Mine was broken in a closed state, so I did not have any symptoms while driving the car. There were several codes when read with odb2 scanner. Nevertheless, the car will produce more NO2, as no exhaust gas can go back into the engine and reduce the temperature of burning of diesel.
      Hope this helps.

      Hi mad monk, that is a first for me, unless there is not a separate warning light for an EGR fault and you get some sort of generic handbrake/esp fault. I do not think there is a specific light for an EGR fault, so it could be that this combination gives you an indication that something is wrong, e.g. EGR.

      Hmm, I bought my car back in 2011, so the general consensus at the time was that they are fisrt of all better engines and second produced a lot less CO2. Now, they are a lot more economical than petrol engines and of course in order to reduce harmful pollutants you need the, as you have put it, DPF, EGR, AdBlue Eolys, etc. Why do you think trucks, most of them, are still diesels? Because they are crappy oil burners...
