  • This is the rare Firex model FX - 830 smoke detector. Not quite sure on the year of this but my guess is between 1985 and 1988 and this has a piezo horn and a white test button. It is the Ultra rare version of the FXB -1 and sorry if I got that wrong in the video. I got this as a surprise from a friend of mine who I have known for about 28 years who is dismantling an old motor home trailer and this was on the ceiling of the motor home. I knew he was bringing some older 1980's detector over tonight as he knows I collect these but I wasn't sure what detector. Now I know and since I found out this is rare this is even cooler. The only issue is that the test button doesn't seem to work although my friend might try to fix it when he is over next. The great news is that it works great with test spray so I am happy. This unit is missing its label and there was no bracket or base although he will try to find them for me. But my guess is this is a Canadian detector since I live in Canada. This is my second Firex unit. The other one being the very rare line cord model the FXC-1 from around 1979 that I got in April this year. That one has a loud AC Vibratory horn. I also did a bit of a comparison of the two detectors. Definitely a cool piece for my collection and a surprise. Enjoy the video and I think I may the second person now to own an FX 830. I could be wrong though.

Seems rarer than the Jameson variants. I have the CD-M1.

Oh wow. It is always nice when we can get rare detectors in our collections. I think those Firex's are neat. And as I mentioned that cover designed seemed to have been around for sometime as well.

@@janeaton3417 Very popular design back in the 80s, that’s for sure.

@@Undercoverelevator212-s2n Yep and I like getting really rare alarms. My collection has several of those heat and burglar alarm combinations from the 1950' and 1960's. I also never grew up with them but I think they are definitely cool and unique pieces.
