Are there any hollies that look super similar as far as less-pointy, more rounded serrations on the edges, small leaves, etc.? I think I have found a yaupon in the wild but I want to be sure I don't try to make "coffee" out of the wrong leaf and poison myself!
Thank you for the thorough video!
I actually heard that the vomitoria came from settlers seeing Indians vomiting after taking a drink that contained yaupon and also lots of other mysterious ingredients!
Also I'm not sure what capitalism has to do with unjustly banning imported products, but anyway. . . .
    Thank you for the video!

Amazing to have people like you on this earth, spreading this amazing information. I’ve always wondered why every place I travel to can grow caffeine but not us in the United States. So unfair! But I will hopefully be growing this soon. I have no idea if it will survive the desert but it’s worth a shot

Another ilex is the paraguayensis, where yerbamate is taken. Also with caffeine. How cold can it survive.

Where are the seeds inside the berries?

Thank you! Very interesting! Are there any differences between the dwarf llex vomitoria and the regular ones other than size?

I'm not familiar with a dwarf; guessing this is a horticultural variety--if so they are just selected for smaller overall size to plant in smaller spaces.

Exactly what the name says dwarf means she’s will be a short shrub.

No genetic difference and they can reproduce with other Yaupon trees. As far as I understand the only real difference, besides size, is that the Dwarf variety is all male and the weeping variety are all female.

    How can I grow this?

Hi Joan! Thanks for your comments. The berries (actually drupes) are small and single seeds are inside (remember, toxic to humans). It's native to the Coastal Plain and fairly easy to find at plant nurseries; it is also planted in the Piedmont.

Look up a "native plant nursery" in your state
