The phrase "I didn't mean to take it this far" is one I find myself saying to other people too frequently, but once you get started with a project like yours it's hard to stop half-way, and the only people who will really appreciate that level of quality are the ones who've gone too far themselves. Great work!

I'm quite sure you're going to hear me say that more than once during this build haha.
      Thanks for watching!

Inspiring! Luckily I have a desert Z so the only rust is under the hydraulics, the battery, and some light on the og suspension. Engine was dead for 14 yrs before I saved it. Great videography as well!

Oh what I would give to be working on a west coast desert Z these days haha. Thanks for watching!

I can't even imagine how much time you've spent on just this prep part.. :D This is insane, I think I'll finish my silvia s12 maybe in 5 years with my tempos :D

The amount of work you've put into this build is insane. Would the dustless blasting you talk of mean i could go straight to getting rid of the residue media, de-grease and paint?

Thanks! Its been a fun and rewarding build for sure!
The dustless blasting, or any blasting for that matter...you never REALLY get rid of the residual media...and I mean NEVER! It will always be a part of the car, in some nook, cranny, crevice, crack, seam, compartment no matter how much you blow, vacuum, flip, wipe, repeat there will always be some spot that's harboring some tiny little remnant of media haha. Having said that, dustless blasting is definitely amazingly effective at removing paint to bare metal and undercoating without overheating and warping the metal if the operator knows what they are doing with thin sheet metal on cars.
Usually they blast with water, crushed glass, and a chemical called Hold Tight 102, if they get the ratio of chemicals and water wrong it will rust very quickly, if they get it right it can stay in bare metal for months.
The down side to prepping for paint after blasting is it leaves a sandpaper rough texture on the metal surface and impossible to de-grease with a lint free rag without leaving hairs everywhere. If your blasting undercarriages its not really a big deal, you can just blow the residual crushed glass away, de-grease with a scrub bush multiple times, then use a wax a grease remover WITHOUT wiping and using a clean scrub brush until its free of contaminants (its likes gallons of wax a grease remover here), and then lay down some coats of epoxy. Unfortunately there's no shortcuts to doing it the right way, if you do blasting vs abrasives, vs wire wheels its literally the same amount of hours invested in getting it right, its just a different approach and trade off of what type of work your doing to get it right is all.
I know that was a long winded explanation but hope it helps!

@@hcr-motorworks Thank you, that has helped alot. I was looking for a lazy solution to be honest but it appears that doesn't exist haha. I will use my Norton rust stripper pads like you recommended and get to work... I'm only doing a MK1 MX-5 or miata as you call them over your way and I have got a bit carried away. I will be using a product called epoxy mastic on the bottom of the car once I have followed your instructions on stripping it back to bare metal but instead of Raptor over the top, I will be using Dinitrol which I have read very good things about. Thanks again for the response and for the vidoes! I now know what I am getting into. I have the car down to the bare shell and painted all the subframes and control arms etc and I thought most of my work was complete! How wrong was I haha. My only problem is I have never welded before so if i find rust them i'm going to have to get someone to come and weld it up! My first time spray painting with a compressor was on my subframes so we will see how the underbody painting goes when i get to that stage!

HA I wish I could tell ya there's an easier way...but I have a bad habit of being an over achiever and going in way overboard and getting in too deep to skimp out on the processes. Go get a welder and start learning!!! Some of the most fun I've ever had was metal fabrication and welding on these projects!
