Short video of our departure from Santiago de Chile.
Take off is from runway 17R. shortly after take-off we make a right turn over the pacific heading north to Quito.
Being very light (~230 tons), it only took 13 minutes after take-off to the cruising level of FL400.

It's so deceptive, when you're looking out the window in front you're like "he can't be going more than 30 kts" and then suddenly, nose up.
When you zoom in for a distant object you lose the sensation of speed.
Can be the frame rate of the video and the size of dashed line?
i agree, it takes roughly 20 secs to lift up the nose which is quite quick :0
I thought the same at first, but when I went back and looked at it a few more times, I stopped focusing on the middle striping and allowed myself to view it in a more overall sense in terms of changing scenery in front of them and as if I was in there, then I got a better sense of the takeoff speed.
My first flight was on a wide body Delta Lockheed L-1011 in 1979
and I couldn't believe we were at takeoff speed when we started lifting..I kept thinking "are we just driving down the runway for fun or what". and the fact we were using the shorter North-South runway (New Orleans) made it even stranger.
Just seems like that because the aircraft is so big and the nose is so high up

it's just amazing how slow it looks from inside going down runway lol but when you stop seeing runway threw the windshield you know it's flying time!

Hello, Captain. Love all your vids! I was curious about some functionality in the airplane: Does pressing the TOGA buttons on the thrust levers engage the auto-throttle servos and automatically move them forward to the selected takeoff N1, or is it required to push them forward manually after engine stabilization? jeez. i'm so afraid of flying. such a stupid irrational fear and i have to do it fairly often. ufff. but i'm fascinated by airplanes. weird.
What's to be afraid of, carmine? My Grandma, God rest her soul, was killed crossing the street by someone who just wasn't looking. Planes are MUCH safer than all of the "normal" traffic accidents we have to live with. Take care, and enjoy your next flight! :-)

I flew on the 777 -300 and when he put the throttles down I was shocked of the amount of shear power that thing had..never had a chance to fly on a 747 ..one day though
I've been on 6 flights as a passenger on the 747. Dad was Navy so the 747s were used for Flights Across the Pacific and the flights were smooth even with some Turbulence.
