  • Here are three visually distinct Pilosocereus royenii - Royen's tree cactus - from three different Caribbean islands. I've grown these from seed and from cuttings. On the left is the darkest, pine bough green cactus which originates in Puerto Rico, probably in or around Guanica dry forest (seeds from my own mature stem). The center plant is the lightest, powder blue-green from St. John (Fairchild cutting pup). On the right is one from St. Croix (Mesa Garden seeds) which consistently starts out very red-purple and only after a few years becomes a greyed green-blue. The Puerto Rico cactus is available for sale on my website, and the other two varieties will be when they produce enough pups or seed someday. Back left of these are three Pilosocereus polygonus, found in the Dominican Republic and Haiti, also for sale. Cactus Island Nursery specializes in growing columnar cacti from the Caribbean, Florida and Latin America. Please subscribe if you like what you see, and to purchase cacti visit www.cactusisla...
