If you have a convertible, first you need to remove the waterfall. Do so by removing (4) torx T15 screws, 2 on top and 2 on the sides. Thanks for watching.
@@rondail5675 I didn't. It's a good idea to do just to be more comfortable. There really isn't a shock hazard while doing this, but nothing wrong with taking that extra step.
Nice work. Assuming something was amiss with the camera, as when you were removing console it appeared to morph into a Euro model w/right hand drive!!! lol, anyway, is it really necessary to move the Parking Brake handle?
Lol yea I took the video with my phone and forgot to flip the orientation so it is backwards. That's my bad. It helps get the ebrake out of the way, but it may not be necessary. I forget if there was enough room or not.
I finally ran out of excuses for NOT doing this repair on the HVAC in my 50th Anniversary C5. Using your video as a guide, I pulled the HVAC unit and soldered the 8 resistors. Results? Perfect! The display had been blank for several years. Now it's nice and bright! Thanks so much for making the video.
Update: Today I discovered the job I did was NOT quite perfect. I went to buy gas today and the fuel door would not release via the button. (To make matters worse, I didn't know where the manual release handle was located.) It turns out that pulling the console rearward caused the connector to pull out from the fuel door release button. That was easy to resolve. Then, for possible future reference, I found the manual release handle tucked up under the area near the fuel door. No panels or carpet need to be removed. The cable is clearly labelled "Fuel Door Release".
just broke my center console/radio bezel and need to replace it this video reminded me how to take it apart and was great to follow, thanks for the video even a few years later man!
Bummer to hear you have to replace it, but glad the video helped with the end result. Kinda wish I flipped the video during editing so it looks like I'm on the correct side of the car, but one of those editing mistakes I've tried to do better with over the years. Thanks for the comment 👍
No worries man I knew exactly what was going on by watching. I did take apart the entire interior of my corvette down to the body in white back in 2014 but its been that long since I have done that lol and was like how the heck does this come apart again haha figured youtube had it
Thank you so much for the great informative video, Im restoring my 20 year old C5 Commemorative Coupe. and also for the well lighted clear video , and your verbal explanation...you saved me alot of time and aggravation...YOU ROCK
Thanks for the awesome video. Very informative and clear. My display on the HVAC control module was dim and it just went completely out so I need to tackle that. After that I need to tackle the stripped headlight gear making the horrible noise (yet another common malady). Then my emblems on the front and back completely disintegrated / cracked / delaminated so both those need to be removed and replaced 🤬 It is a 2000 with about 26000 mi and always garaged so Im a bit baffled by the emblem and headlight issues as the car is rarely used.... anyway, thx for saving me lots of repair 💵💵💰💰 all my GM vehicles have fallen victim to the common issues 😞. Very informative console removal, thank you. My 05 has a shifter linkage situation, plastic Heim joint fell apart. $67,000 car 16 years ago, I would have thought they made it to last a lifetime. I'm disappointed in this design but have to deal with it.
I've noticed the same about the forum when trying to figure things out. Videos are definitely more helpful, so I'm glad it helped you out. Thanks for commenting and good luck with the ignition switch

Awesome video Dave! I performed this task once with my Grandpa a few months ago on his torch red coupe (the car in my pic) we had to replace the center console lid, but for whatever reason, we took the whole console out. At least I got the experience from that and it's cool to see someone else perform the task and making a video on it. Keep the awesome uploads going and have an awesome day! Matt.
Thanks Matt. Not difficult and it's nice that it's screws and bolts instead of plastic clips. Plastic clips always scare me and fear breaking them. Thanks for the support as always.
@@YellowVette04 No problem bud. I agree, I broke a few plastic clips in my life, but at least GM was generous to make it easier on us! The LS1's are bullet proof too making the Corvette one of the best cars ever made!
For anyone not wanting to use a screwdriver on the cigarette lighter there is a blue clip that goes around it like a horse shoe in the black area it’s a push tab that in latches the part he uses a screwdriver for. Gl boys
I never used a screwdriver on the cigarette lighter. I used a T15 to remove the screw next to it and then mentioned there are tabs on the back in order to disconnect the cigarette lighter connector. I mention tabs on the back and yes they are blue and in the shape of a horseshoe. Thanks for commenting that clarification.
@@YellowVette04 Had my vette about 15 years....BCM took a powder but other than that it's bee good...the only think I don't like is the radio. CD player is useless and this is the solution for sure. All my gauges have quit working and need some guidance on the repair if at all possible, also my A/C puts out cold air on the driver’s side and hot air on the passenger side, can you help. 2000 C5.
The AC issue is the blend door. If you do a Google search for c5 blend door, you'll see a bunch of threads on the forums. It involves removing the dash pad to get to it, but isn't hard, just time consuming. I'm not sure about the cluster not working, except check the fuse panel in the Passenger floor footwell to make sure the fuse isn't blown.
I have a vid on fixing that yourself. Takes a few mins and only $15 if you don't have a soldering iron. If you have or know someone who has a soldering iron, then it's free. Not hard to try on your own, just don't be heavy handed when soldering. Thanks for watching.
Are you able to access the hyper flash bypass by just removing the console? I have to replace my yaw rate sensor and need to remove the dash for that. I thought possibly I might be able to reach the plug for the hyper flash through the console instead of taking the piece off under the steering wheel. I also watched your video for that as well. Thanks for the video's they are a lot of help.
I like that....it was good....Thank you....do you have a video how to change the transmission leather boot..?? Also because I have a 99 convertible ...How to remove the waterfall unit..???
I did not replace the shift boot or ebrake boot. There's 4 T15 screws that hold the waterfall in, 2 on top and 1 near the bottom on each side. After removing those, I think you just slide it up and off. I only removed it once, so I'm going by shotty memory lol.
Thanks for the great video I have a convertible and the notes below let me also know what to do. Now if you could just find the new sifter cable. on GM back order for four years?? go figure
Thanks for watching and glad the vid and instructions helped. If you can't find it new, there are used corvette websites that probably have it. Only problem is it's used so who knows how long it'll last. I think Corvette Mods has them, but they suck to deal with sometimes. Good luck
The ash tray and ash tray lidpulls out easily. The larger lid that covers the 12V and ash tray area is attached to the console. I haven't had to replace this large lid so I'm not sure. Looks like you would need to remove the console. Good luck
Nice Vid !!...thought you might have been having some ignition switch issues (common on C5's). I've waiting for a magnetic monopod for my iPhone and will do some diagnostic videos the next couple weeks before it gets to cold...also had to buy a video editor !!
Thanks Rob. No switch issues with mine but my father inlaw is having issues with his. I still use my phone for all editing and use PowerDirector. Free but it's limited so I upgraded for $5. I have a Galaxy so it's easy to swap SD cards between my phone and go pro.

Not always but sometimes he'll try and start it and gets nothing. Security light pops up and he gets some codes, not sure what those are so I'll tell him to write them down. He clears the codes and it usually starts after but not always. I'll have a talk with him and find out exactly what's going on.
If his is a C5 when he turns the key on "ON" the security light should go out....if not he might have an issue with the key...have him clean the key pellet with some alcohol first...it has a little resistor in the key that the BCM has to read correctly or the car won't start !!...and get the codes before he turns the engine off and see if they are "current" or "history" !! !!ua-cam.com/video/SviRjIsy9G4/v-deo.html

Will then send in for repair to a service listed on Ebay. You mention that you also have to remove the waterfall in a convertible model and was wondering if you have any video of that process? Thanks much, Steve
