Thank you all for the suggestions to 3D print or buy the body! I was fully aware that I could do this before I started the build, but I thought that sculpting the body would be more fun and challenging :)
My absolute favorite videos are people sculpting miniatures(or parts of them) from scratch, its so inspiring and always looks sooo good. Awesome video man, it looks incredible
Thank you for all the suggestions to use a ball of aluminium foil instead of the infestation node to fill space in the torso, I honestly never realised I could do that! :) That being said, I'm still only down 2 infestation nodes so I feel pretty ok about that cos I'm not using those anyway! 😂
I could have but by the time I realised I wanted to make a second tyrant my first one was already fully built and painted so I didn't wanna wreck the paint job by using it to make a mould!
looks great! One thing I'd recommend if you were going to do a nid again is to make fleshy bits first, roll some greenstuff and layer pieces of carapace on the body. This way you can have much better looking armor. Also, you could add some scratches on the top of the chimney
this is why house rules rock, like me and my dad use outdated models and stuff but since we don't care about playing traditionally, we just follow almost all 9th edition rules and make or break other rules
@@boneman-calciumenjoyer8290 Singapore! And to clarify, I guess I could get a 3D printer but I've worked with them before and I know they're a hassle to maintain. Also I don't think I can feature warhammer related 3D printing content on the channel without running into serious legal issues 😂
@@TrevorGoesMeep Well, looking at GW most recent actions, warhammer related channels might be in trouble regardless... Anyways, I can understand that you don't want to get a printer, I'm a giant fan of printers tho. These things saved my behind so many times, when I needed a specific bit. All that said, keep doing what you're doing, your nids stuff is great!
Just starter thinking about kit bashing and experimenting with the sculptures and damn does yours look good xD I don't think I could do the same but Rome wasn't build in a day so someday I hope to reach that skill :D Thanks for the video !
@@TrevorGoesMeep I spent a week making a squad of 4 custodian terminators from blue stuff molds and milliput. They tuned out well apart from the spacing of the torso (the midriff was always too large).
@@TrevorGoesMeep Where I'm from it's not that easy to come by GW stuff so I learned to use all I have creatively. That's why I melt extra sprue like the Miniature Hobbyist and then make panels for vehicles. Also Franky D Crafter gave me the aluminum foil idea of a cheap, light weight, common and easy to work with material for crafting figures. But I must say your clear wings idea is genius.
I’m going to try my best to do this as well for up coming UA-cam project. If it’s okay with you I would like to shout you out and link your video as the inspiration and guide for me to follow. The channel is called Play N Trade 40K and will be starting up at the end of Jan
I apologise if you found the title to be slightly misleading, I guess if you want to be particular it should be "Make 2 Hive Tyrants from 1 Kit and some spare parts". That being said, kitbashing using leftover bits from other kits is a common practice in wargaming and most Tyranids players are likely to have these bits leftover (Trygon and Genestealers are in the start collecting box and you get extras of all the bits I used). So honestly I feel that it's not too big an issue :) if you're not of the same opinion that's fine though! :)
Ah yes a lot of people have been telling me to use a ball of aluminum foil! I honestly didn't think of doing it but I was probably never gonna use those infestation nodes anyway so I'm still feeling ok about it 😁
Thank you for your feedback, the title of this video has been changed to "Make 2 Hive Tyrants from 1 Kit (and some spare parts)" to more accurately represent the use of spare parts in kitbashing :)

You did pretty well! Though I’m gonna stick with just keeping the pieces in my bits box for now lol.

Not the best looking around dude it looks awesome imo especially for something done by hand great work
Thanks man I'm glad you think so! 😁
I was thinking the same thing my god if i was only a fraction this talented 🤣
"I'm going to fill the gaping void in his crotch" Yeah i feel that.... Awesome job, dude! Gonna watch some more of your stuff
HAHA thanks man 😁 don't know what I was thinking when I recorded that line 😂
Oh hell yes, i have everything for this kit, thank you so much for this

Yoo, i just got my first mini and its this, glad i saw your comment. Any advice on where to start researching for making the mould?
Honestly looks really good. Good job man
Oh hey thanks so much man! I think he's slightly wonky but good enough for me 😬
wow thats amazing! of course people will be okay with you using that you used some serious talent to create that bug leader!

Thanks I'll look into it! :)
Does one need to use a specific glue to get the plastic pieces attached longterm to the milliput?
I just use super glue :)
Awesome work! I agree it is not perfet, but getting 2 HQs out of this kit is worth it! Very nice!

Cool approach! I'll be honest, I just 3D-printed another torso.
Yeah that's way simpler but I don't have easy access to a quality 3D printer so I thought I'd try this instead 😁

Same here
Looks good to me, if I didn't know what a swarm lord looked lime already I'd assume it was an official model nice work
Does anyone know where we can find a tyrannofex torso STL?
How to make a hive tyrant from spare parts? "Just sculpt like a pro dude" nice skills bro.
You learned good grasshopper
great work! you have inspired me to buy milliputt and green stuff
Hips don't lie my friend! Outstanding work!
Thanks man 😁 I do love hips 😂

GOTTA CATCH EM ALL
Awesome sculpt dude :) you wouldn't know when he is on the table top surrounded by his minions! :) well done! :)

I'm going to try do this but for a flying version
Great STuff!
What is the clay you are using? Milapod?
Milliput! :)
@@TrevorGoesMeep Thanks!
Great video! Thanks for the idea, can you recomend another carachter kit to make a free model whit bits from the kit and milliput?
I'll look into it :)
Amazing job!
I bet buying the hip and body on a bit site would be like twice the price of the millaput and 3 hours less work.
I bet you wouldn't watch a video of me doing that 🙃
@@TrevorGoesMeep I bet i woulndt watch anything from you unless it pops up on my feed.
Fair enough!
Could you do this for the Trygon/Mawloc?
Honestly possible but unfortunately I've been using up the Trygon/Mawloc spare parts for a lot of my other conversions HAHA
Solid material
I got a good laugh outta this. Great job on the conversion!
Thank you! Glad you had fun too 😁
Even if not the best, but the model's pose is still sick
Awesome job
That's where blue stuff is so useful! You lose a bit of detail, but for larger models it does a good job. Also, "gaping void"...
That's interesting, I'll check it out!

Ppl on Etsy print the torso. Got mine with shipping for 11$.
Ah yes I know but I thought this would be more fun to make!
ouch why didn't you use an aluminum ball Instead of the bit 1,13min
But it looks good
Haha I think it might have been too heavy!
Sorry I meant a ball made of aluminum foil
@@pfennigzeit2520 ahhh! Well I never considered it and I wasn't using those bits I used anyway!
You can 3D print the body
I think it’s on thingy verse.

Amazing, good job
Thanks man, glad you like it!
Did the same thing in vice versus order with a body from Etsy to make a tyrant for $8
Sick! Glad you got a free guy too!
OMG about died when you named him
ASH KETCHUM WAS ALWAYS A TRYANT
This is awesome!
Thank you! :) I'm quite pleased with it 😁
I love the idea of using extra parts for conversions and kitbashing, but couldn't you have just used aluminum foil instead of the infestation nodes?

What a waste of plastic/money if all of that is extra in the kit and GW wonder why people try and recast odd parts for themselves.
Yeah it does seem like a waste if you don't use it to make another guy!
