Kirk Franklin has been the most open book gospel artist in history. He speaks my language. Young people, old people, and kids enjoy his art. He's just real. He doesn't shy away from the people. You can judge him, attack him, and he's still him. He keeps the pulse on the people. His catalog of music is legendary!! Kirk stays on my playlist! I grew up spiritually when Kirk was coming on the scene. His new take on gospel music was liberating and freeing for me as a young Christian in College. I thank God for Kirk’s ministry!
He’s really easy to talk to like that. I remember meeting him when I was 14 he was talking to the youth giving his testimony and I don’t think I ever seen that many young people come to Christ. Kirk is definitely a man of God
I was hoping Kirk would have offered to pray, but the fact that Shannon asked for the prayer makes it more powerful. The Holy Spirit was sure in this place.

You do not need to be a Christian to listen to his message. He talks about life. So transparent, so real. Just beautiful moments. Well done Shannon. You’re a great host, and Kirk Franklin was a great guest 💕
Man, he will never see this but I remember being at Air Force Basic Training and the Chapel played Kirk Franklins song, “Smile” and it meant so much to me. Really uplifted me during those difficult weeks. Thanks man.

can we all just give it up for Mr. Sharpe for the genius that he is and the wonderful approach he took with this conversation by starting from the present to the beginning...it not only showcased his hard work and preparation, a fresh take for us viewers on the guest's story, but it made Mr. Franklin so comfortable and at ease to open up graciously with his story. I am a fan of both and job well done!
He is so right about the limitations within the church and trying to balance that perception with opportunities. I grew up in C.O.G.I.C., and their idea of success is only reserved for the pastor. They believe everyone needs to stay on God's path, struggle, and miss opportunities. As soon. as I was older.....I realized that a relationship with GOD is a personal journey, not what others think it should be.
The comedy and realness of this episode is EPIC! I absolutely love it. Kirk being able to joke and keep a straight face and Shannon trying NOT to laugh is too funny. 😂😂😂😂

Man did yall feel that? The shift when they started speaking about Kirk’s biological family. I think they might of even forgot they were being recorded. This was beautiful! When men drop and check their egos and allow vulnerability to permeate. Bet they become Life long friends. Kirk spoke freely and honestly about his pain. Which allowed Unc to not chastise or provoke, but lovingly and empathetically encourage. To make a sacred space where he still called him up higher but held space for his pain. I could go on all day about what those kind of convos do not only in us, but to those around us. Thank you for your humanity kings! Thank you for your vulnerable masculinity. I’m better for having witnessed it.
This interview was hilarious. I love and admire Kirk Franklin. I remember him changing the sound of gospel music. And to this day...he doesn't disappoint. Love him. And Shay Shay too. I love his interviews. He's so nosey...just like me. Lol
This interview is sooooo Good. Kirk Franklin was so transparent about everything himself, the church, his vulnerability, trying to connect with his dad. Wow!!!!
Shannon's heart about Kirk speaking with his mother is genuine but being in a similar situation as Kirk, sometimes you just have to let relationships go with parents who can't meet you halfway. It hurts but you also have to protect your emotions and not continue to put yourself in that position with that parent to be hurt. Sometimes love from a distance is best until that person can really see the issue. Kirk has a lot of grace for his mother, but he still has to protect his sanity and heart ❤
Im only 15 mins in, but this is the best description of some of the problems in the church. Taking a personal feeling & trying to force someone to believe your feeling. Most of problems in today's society. I get what Unc was saying about some of the newer gospel artist as it took me a minute to start listening to some of the new gospel artist. I loved the old school gospel artists. But I have definitely heard "Take me to the King," so don't fuss at me😂
Best interview to date. This interview touch my heart in so many ways because it allows me to look at my own life and my upbringing to know that God hasn’t given up on me and never will.

When Kirk came on the scene, he opened up a whole new audience to gospel music. Thanks bro. We could still dress cool and slick and still love the Lord.
The Steve Harvey interview was my favorite until I watched Kirk Franklin's. If I wasn't already a believer, I would definitely wanna know who God is! Excellent interview!

Thank you,Kirk, for starting Shannon on a gospel music journey- each time he said he didn’t know an artist I fainted a little! Come on over,Shannon-you’ll love it here! 💕
I absolutely love this conversation. It's an open, honest, and needed conversation. We all have our flaws and we all need Jesus. I so agree with what he said about how as christians, it's our job to let others know that God has them and loves them. It truly isn't our job to "police" anyone's process. I am grateful for Kirk's honesty and transparency to let the world know that we all struggle with things. Thank you, Shannon, for allowing people to open up and share their truth on your platform. God bless.

Man did yall feel that? The shift when they started speaking about Kirk’s biological family. I think they might of even forgot they were being recorded. This was beautiful! When men drop and check their egos and allow vulnerability to permeate. Bet they become
Life long friends.
Take Me to the King is one of the greatest gospel records ever. ❤
How has he never heard this !!! That’s crazy lol
Shannon, we need you to report back once you've heard Tamela Mann and John P. Kee!
This interview was hilarious. I love and admire Kirk Franklin. I remember him changing the sound of gospel music. And to this day...he doesn't disappoint. Love him. And Shay Shay too. I love his interviews. He's so nosey...just like me. Lol
This was powerful & for you to close in prayer brought me to tears, the Holy Spirit definitely moved ……… you are doing a great job Unc 💯🙏🏼💪🏼
This interview is sooooo Good. Kirk Franklin was so transparent about everything himself, the church, his vulnerability, trying to connect with his dad. Wow!!!!
Shannon when you were in Ms. Styles English class at Savanna State College you are doing what you were dreaming back then!
I second this.
Same! I had to do the same with my father.
But I have definitely heard "Take me to the King," so don't fuss at me😂
😂😂😂😂
Unc what kinda church u go to bro. U never heard of fred hammond r john p kee.....
This is the only platform giving men more space to express themselves. I love this podcast.
Listen to Nighcap with Him and Ocho. When they get past sports the talk is real deep, last night with Gil Arenas was epic!
The ONLY? 🤔
"Shirley Cesar is 137 yrs old"...
Took me all the way out 😂😂😂💀
😂riiiight
Two of my favorite people there real god bless both of them
Best interview to date. This interview touch my heart in so many ways because it allows me to look at my own life and my upbringing to know that God hasn’t given up on me and never will.
Yesss I love how Kirk is educating him on the history of his genre. There are some amazing gospel artists out then and now! 🙌🏽
Wow,
I was moved! This wasn't an interview but a meeting of hearts!
Thank You for allowing Us to be a part of this great dialog between 2 Brilliant Men of God! Continue to Grow in Grace! Mr. Shannon and Mr. Kirk are Humble Giants 💪🏾
Shannon, I was so shock you didn't know these gospel artists that I wanted to slap you.😂😂😂 I didn't realize that people didn't know these, in my opinion, very blessed and talented people.
He need to hear their versus
Here y'all Christians go judging people 😂
We need Unc to just take a whole week and let him listen to the gospel classics.. so much he's missed
When Kirk came on the scene, he opened up a whole new audience to gospel music. Thanks bro. We could still dress cool and slick and still love the Lord.
Somebody get Shannon Fred's "Pages of Life" 1 & 2 because.. whew!

Take me to the king is an awesome song! Tamela has a beautiful voice! 💕💕💕💕

I agree totally,, You're beautiful also Queen.. 👌🏾🔥
The Steve Harvey interview was my favorite until I watched Kirk Franklin's. If I wasn't already a believer, I would definitely wanna know who God is! Excellent interview!
"It's not my job to police your process"...now that was a mic-drop moment!!!
WAAAAAAAAT!?!? AINT HEARD OF TAMELA MANN!?!? NO FRED HAMMOND, JOHN P KEY!?&?!! LIKE…DRAAAAAKE!?!?!? 🤯🤯🤯
Awesome to see Kirk Franklin on here speaking the truth. Love the show Unc
When he said he’s never Co-Written with nobody I almost cried because those songs Omg just help me heal me and get close to God ❤ That’s how you can learn how to write verses on your heart tattoo them on your soul 🥹
I love all of Shannon's content but this was epic in my opinion. This interview is what my spirit needed. Thanks to Shannon and Kirk for their openes and honesty.
Thank you,Kirk, for starting Shannon on a gospel music journey- each time he said he didn’t know an artist I fainted a little! Come on over,Shannon-you’ll love it here! 💕
Right😂😂😂 I was like is he joking😅
💯, when he said he didn’t know Fred Hammond!! 🤯😵
God bless.
Shannon Sharpe is hands down one of the best interviewers in the entertainment industry today. He's a special talent.
I’m stuck that UNC never heard of John P Kee nor Fred Hammond. 💀
This interview was EVERYTHING. E.VER.Y.THING! Thanks you so much to both of you for being so open, vulnerable, informative, educational, wise, loving, kind and caring to each other. Appreciate being able to listen to each of you and leave feeling motivated to be a better human who loves GOD. So good!
