- My first mini bike! Nothing flashy, just the bare essentials.
Baja Doodlebug Chassis, from Craigslist: $30
Predator 212cc 6.5hp Motor, from Harbor Freight Tools: $100
Max Torque 3/4" clutch and #35 chain, from OMB Warehouse: $48 (I got 10 feet of chain, you can save money by getting less)
Miscellaneous nuts and bolts: Couple bucks
Total: ~$180
Fun: Priceless

rage redface I agree always happens to me but recently i found a go kart frame for $20 its missing a drive wheel and thats the most expensive part asides from the engine which I got free. then I had this chainsaw it was brand new never used and I traded it for a mini bike frame (not like one in vid), with engine, another engine a honda gx200 and a couple of extra parts. All you have to do is put an ad on CL and say you can trade something because you have any money. Thats what I did. Seems to work. also if any one has a cheap go kart/mini bike drive wheel hmu lol
Seriously. The cheapest in my area that I saw was $75 and it went quick. After that I haven't seen one under 150
That use to be normal price now all the Yankees got these thing for that price and it will cost the price of a new running mini from Walmart

I bought 2 baja doodle bugs for 50 bucks a piece all original and complete. Got them both running for under 20 bucks. Doodle bugs are the best. Now it's time to swap them put for bigger motors

Great job! I had an original Wren Mini Bike with a 2 and a 1/2 HP Tecumseh motor in 1969 when I was 10 years old! I always like mini bikes from the 1960's! They are a lot of fun! These days they are hard to find! Have fun on yours and once again, a nice project well built!
+Hemi Vic Hey Hemi, I just purchased a new kit from 909bikes for $299 and Harbour freight has Two different versions of the 212cc Predator and one is a HEMI head LOL I'm 52 and plan on getting several friends to purchase these to just race in a lot and drink beer and grill out.
I remember as a kid in Chicago in the late 60's that a lot of kids had mini bikes and rode them illegally on the street! Some states actually allow them to be driven on the street but their are restrictions. Yours is a very nice one! I'd say just by looking at it, it's most likely from 1969-72. I may get one for my nephew as I'm guiding him to be a Motorcycle rider when he gets to be a teen. But right now, a mini bike would be perfect for him! There are some nice mini bikes for sale on eBay. Northern Tool in Minnesota has one too. I'll keep you posted!
Nice build. My son and I both have minibikes with Predator engines. His has the 79cc and mine is the 212cc.
I also have the 79 cc! (Technically 79.5), made by a wintec yr 11 student many many years ago.
PVC is for plumbing, buy some steel spacers or use steel washers.
PVC will not last as wheel spacers- very dangerous!

They see no heat.
reliability of pvc as a spacer for a axel spacer, Can get you killed! Seen it before DON'T USE IT.
i would have put a Tillotson 212 hemi on it and a stage one kit and a torque converter but I only really want a cheap roller frame
I bought a doodle bug for $150 for my daughter painted it put another $50 in parts for hers. I’m getting one tomorrow for me for $50 and plan on a 212 with torque converter for mine.

Yup. Not today junior. Those frames are around $200-300 in 2020! I love these, I have 2 of them. I wish they'd make the frames again. These are the quintessential mini bike to have.

Where did you manage to get a frame for $30? You can't get a bare frame (no wheels, seat, axles) for under $150 where I live.
I bought the newer version of his mini bike with the stock motor and I perfect running order for $70

You lucked out on a $30 chassis chief. Running or not those bad boys are around $200 nowadays. I used an engine plate, tensioner, chain, clutch, pads, 212....$500 all day in 2020 unfortunately. Still worth it!!

This video has been a long time from now and you already probably found this out but the master link key is on backwards so that when the master link hits the sproket it will pop it off just so you know for other builds or whatever

Use steel spacers .pvc could break or melt.
Hey what size springs did you use for the engine return? And did you use rubber washers in between the motor and base plate?
I used a lawn mower throttle cable because the one on my dirt bug snapped

Nice build, but the only thing is that you paid a little to much for the chain, it would've cost you 10$ on eBay...48$ for that much chain was kinda to much $
how did you mount the engine? i have the frame but the mounting bracits dont line up, just drilled them?
I got the same frame for ten bucks but doesn't have throttle or tires what size tires are you using and what's the size for the throttle

Depends on where you live. Most places it's under 50cc is ok. But where I live in PA everything needs to be registered and insured that runs off anything other than your own power.
Also where I live, (check your local laws.) if your caught riding on the road with one, it's a huge amount of traffic violations from driving an unlicensed vehicle to driving without insurance or registration.
It's not legal,but shoot i still ride it on the sidewalk i don't go crazy fast of course.

Nah its not road legal unless you put a 49cc engine but if it's higher you have to add turning signals and lights and get it registered in the dmv
