Boy, this video brings back memories. Those 900-series 1981 GMC fishbowls used to take me and my mom to places all over San Diego back in the late 1980s and early 1990s. I used to love riding those 1981 fishbowls because of the way they sounded when they were driving away.
Thanks 6000beachboy for getting the sound of that fishbowl sitting at the light and then pulling away within the 0:42 to 1:00 mark. That 18-second sound clip brought back memories from my childhood. Thank you sooooooo much for this video, especially them 18 seconds.
Those 900 series fishbowls had the same engine sound when they were sitting idle or still (in the clip between the 0:40 to 0:49 mark) like that of the 1981 GMC RTS buses that SCRTD had back in the 1980s and most of the 1990s.
I also wanted to say the 900 series, those beloved 1981 GM Canada New Looks (fishbowls) were the last SDT buses to be delivered in the old light blue paint scheme; the 500 series Gillig Phantoms built in 1983 were the first to use the newer red and blue livery.
That bus that passed by in which the fans were blowing loudly all the time, was that a Gillig (301-332, 501-545 or 1201-1280) or an Ikarus U.S.A. 416 (201-225)?

904 ran as Niagara Transit 8174 from mid-1997 til her retirement in August 2004
She was the last of NF's x- san diego units to retire

That first NABI 416.01 take off was awesome! And that Canadian New Look sounded great with that 6V92TA.
I'd love seeing them in service today in San Diego or L.A.
For sure!
Niagara Falls still has 3 of these in service. I saw them over the summer and the driver told me they were ex San Diego transit.

All 65 of these buses returned to their motherland, that is, except for units 916 and 942.

Did Niagra Falls get all of the low numbered 900's? I remember they all went back to Canada.
Nf got 904, 909, 914,917, 918, 955 and 962
1996 wasn't 2011 when this was published...P
I guess they are still using them.
