It was originally delivered to Sweetwater Union High School District in July, 1967. It is still all original including the seats inside! It is in great mechanical condition. Truly a collector's item now!

Wow! That sound takes me back almost 70 years ago as our hometown used these buses as part of the transit system. I had a token from one of them for many years before I lost it.
Thank you for sharing this. I enjoyed the sound of that six cylinder two-stroke diesel engine. Saw this bus in service with RTD plenty of times while growing up in Arcadia. Every time I saw it, I was always happy, glad and smiling. I never got to ride it, though, but that's okay.

With that engine, the passengers can hear you 2 stops away at stop even before you arrive
Heave it
The only transit system that updated their fishbowls buses with electronic digital destination signs, and a little bit of marta Atlanta, here in NYC none of them updated
Damn this one had the best takeoff
Ha, I lived in this exact bus for 3 years. Crazy seeing it on here. Still got it right down the road, my brothers working on it.
Wow! We had this same type of GM Old look and the small version in Cuba! They arrived in Cuba in the 1950's and were already in use! Excellent air suspension, they were automatic and super comfortable! Applause for GM designers!!! ❤️❤️👋👋👋👋👋👋
No sound?
Sound like GMC RTS 6V92
Bomb on bus¿
I can't stand it. Please take me back to the old days. Take me back to the 90s. I hate it here in the millennium. These new EPA Cummins buses and electric buses are just straight trash! Like, I literally can't stand it!
Is this bus still for sale or is it sold
That’s a 5309A
Nice great video
SPEED! :)
Am guessing that bus has a three speed automatic transmission. It sounds like the engine is a Detroit 6v71.
It has a Detroit 6V71 with a VH automatic two speed transmission.
I remember this bus😊
Can someone actually activate the crossovers?
It looks a lot like a Wayne bus from around 1970. It would make a fantastic conversion.
GOOD TO SEE #2150 , I DROVE THAT BUS OUT OF S.C.R.T.D DIV . 5 IN THE 70'S AND 80'S ON THE OLD RTD 5 LINE , NOW THE METRO /L.A.C.M.T.A # 40 LINE !

@@johnrobertfox7775 🤣🤣🤣 Yes indeed
Damn, 0:20 to 0:26, the lovely sound of the engine of a Gillig Phantom sitting idle.
Man, 0:18 to 0:27 was the best part of this video. Detroit made some bomb ass bus engines back in the day!!!
Man, it's been years and years since I heard the sound of these 1983 or 1984 Gillig Phantoms. Thanks for this video 6000beachboy, just brought back memories and damn near tears to my eyes.
When I was a kid growing up in San Diego in the 1990s, I used to be in love ❤️ with the 1983/1984 Gillig Phantoms. I used to stand immobile, like I didn't even move when they drove away because I wanted to hear the sound of that Detroit Diesel 6V92TA engine.
Those 900 series fishbowls had the same engine sound when they were sitting idle or still (in the clip between the 0:40 to 0:49 mark) like that of the 1981 GMC RTS buses that SCRTD had back in the 1980s and most of the 1990s.
Thanks 6000beachboy for getting the sound of that fishbowl sitting at the light and then pulling away within the 0:42 to 1:00 mark. That 18-second sound clip brought back memories from my childhood. Thank you sooooooo much for this video, especially them 18 seconds.
Boy, this video brings back memories. Those 900-series 1981 GMC fishbowls used to take me and my mom to places all over San Diego back in the late 1980s and early 1990s. I used to love riding those 1981 fishbowls because of the way they sounded when they were driving away.
904 ran as Niagara Transit 8174 from mid-1997 til her retirement in August 2004
She was the last of NF's x- san diego units to retire
🎼Come ride on the RTD with us, we’ve got a better way to get you there. 🎼 Great memories of growing up in L.A. in the 60’s. 👍
A SPECIAL CAR DRIVEN WITH SPECIAL CARE C'MON AND RIDE , RIDE WITH US ! I DROVE THAT BUS IN THE 70'S AND THE 80'S OUT OF S.C.R.T.D DIV 5 ON THE # 5 LINE ( NOW L.A.C.M.T.A / METRO # 40 LINE !
Wow!! I was friends with the original owner, Steve. Steve bought it from the SCRTD. He would let me drive that bus around LA. Tragically, Steve was murdered and I never knew what happened to his buses. He was storing the 2150 at his friend's bus yard in North Hollywood.
Cummins 220 didn't have a turbo.
It could be an nt262 Cummins which was just an nh220 with a turbo
That poor bus!
Isn’t that the rts that was or is for sale
the headsign is called a flipdot sign! :D
And at the end there’s also a 1980 ford fairmont wagon
Hey there man is there any chance I could ask you a few questions about that 1967 MCI 5A You used to have?
How much would one of these cost nowadays?
What was the V8 turbodiesel that came in these? We had an identical one but with a different motor.
3208 Cat?
Yes, 3208T.
Is it for sale
Any idea as to what # this bus is?
3037.
@@6000beachboy Thanks, is this bus still around?
I want one to do an rv conversion..
There is a more rare site than the crowns, I've never seen one of these in person before.
i m looking for a crown bus
i m looking for a crown bus
Was this bus originally #19?
Yes it was. From Oxnard.
I thought that bus looked familiar....the dent on the rear crossover gave it away...it looks good
i like to have one of this but manual
I recall riding this particular model fishbowl to and from school daily in the early to late '70's on D.C.Transit...
Is this still for sale? How much? Where's it located?
