    I am a music major in college and I was diagnosed with TMJ dysfunction. It causes severe ear aches, headaches, and general pain in my jaw to the point that I can't even eat. Finding a way to work through that and still be able to sing has been quite the challenge. Whenever I have a flare up of pain, I end up not even being able to hear notes right and singing whatever I'm singing entire steps up or down. It's frustrating and I wish it would go away.

      Are you able to see a physiotherapist for your TMJ dysfunction pain, Aryia?

      I’m a music major too and my TMJD diagnose has made it almost impossible for me to envision a future career in singing, my biggest passion. It’s a silent fight and in the competitive environment music brings it can become very detrimental to your mental health.

      I have tmjd too and I love to sing - it seems to effect my upper range mostly. I’m trying to do massage etc but I grind at night so I don’t know if I’ll ever get rid of jaw / neck tension. Have You found anything to help?

    I have TMJ because I have a connective tissue disorder (Loeys-Dietz Syndrome) and it makes singing so painful for me but it’s my biggest passion. I’m gonna try these tips 😌

    it hurts a bit but you can totally feel the release of tension, so pleasant!

    I have never noticed tention in my jaw-side area but I definitely feel lighter and feel blood flowing more in this area.

    OK....watching in 2022 and I'm actually kind of mad. LOL. I was a yoga instructor, had physical therapy for my TMJ after I had my daughter, had lots of massage therapy between then and now and NO ONE could help me find the right stretch, massage, excercise for my TMJ. It pops on the right, so everyone always worked on the right side. As a yoga instructor, I know that tension on one side of the body can cause misalignment on the opposite side. I had tried rubbing my left side before, just not quite like this. I really felt how tense the left side was so I focused on releasing that side by exerting consistent counterpressure towards the left from the right, but putting more pressure on the left. As my jaw opened, the right side popped in a different way than it usually does (it pops all the time when I'm chewing and it's SO incredibly frustrating!). I did it a few more times and could feel my left side lowering and getting into more alignment with my right. Now it is still catching a bit, but the popping is almost gone! That is nuts. Thank you!

    I dunno if I have TMJ (I hope it's not) but my jaw clenched up as I went higher up my scale during vocal exercise, as a result I am on a rest now. It's been messing with me psychologically and I am a professional singer. This has happened before but a week's rest was good enough to get me started again but yeah I am pretty sad. It seems like my brain is telling me you have pain even if I don't have it.

    heey! do you know any exercise to keep te larynx neutral? i usually sing with very low larynx and at the same time i lift my soft palate, but sometimes i get tired singing like that and i just don't know how to keep it in place ):

    No results sorry. Did this all through college as a warm up. Still do it now. Gives a little relief but not much
