About The Nanny:
Fran Drescher stars as Fran Fine, a street-smart young woman with a face out of Vogue and a voice out of Queens who stumbles onto the opportunity to become nanny to the children of a wealthy widower, Maxwell Sheffield. Probably the most iconic comedy scene on The Nanny. The live audience's intense laughter, and Charles Shaugnessy (Maxwell) struggling not to laugh, makes the scene even better.
Fran said it was their longest audience laugh 🤣
It still works cause he'd be drugged up, but still somewhat awake.
And of course, that legendary one-liner from Niles. XD
One of the most iconic scenes of TV. This show was so underrated and this scene was amazing. The Nanny cast and crew deserved better
@@kristagerry8505 where and when did she say that? Love interviews with her
The whole personality of the 4 main characters condensed in less than 5 minutes 👏🏼
wdym Maxwell is unconscious 😂😂
OH GOD THIS COMMENT IS GOD HIMSELF!!!
@@Silver-kw7eq he’s oblivious to fran’s feelings the whole show 😭
This scene was hilarious to begin with, but when, of all people, NILES walks in, you KNOW he's going to say something that'll make it even funnier! 🤣
I would have liked C.C walking in
@@karenjordan9607 now that would have taken this over the top in hilarity.
The face she makes at 2:59 totally reminds me of Lucille Ball's funny face gestures. Plus this whole scene truly showcases Fran Drescher's great comedic talent.
Jacob Fernandez yes totally a Lucy face maybe Fran was inspired by her I will have to google it
She was indeed inspired in Lucille Ball, she mentions it on her documentary:)
I always got Lucille Ball vibes from the show. I'd wager I Love Lucy was an influence on Fran Drescher's comedy routines. Hilarious ladies.
Niles's single line cracks me up. He is such a mood and his smirk is priceless.
I don’t know how they did that without laughing. That is the funniest episode I have ever seen of that show!
That’s what rehearsals are for. As someone with experience in acting (including comical scenes), I can say that in the beginning, even actors won’t be able to stay in character long enough without breaking to laugh at the script. But after performing the scene over and over again, the actors get used to it and it stops being hilarious. Also, Mark-Paul Gossellar mentioned before that while he was on Saved By The Bell, sometimes the scenes would be pre-recorded, then played later for the live audience, and the audience’s laughter would then be layered on top of the recording during editing of the scenes before release. It’s possible that this might’ve been done here, especially since Charles (Max) looks cleaned up in the scene that follows.
Look at and listen to Charles! He's trying not to break and he's making noises that sound like stifled laughter. Sometimes rehearsing it repeatedly doesn't matter and they'll laugh anyway. It makes the scene that much funnier!
Followed closely by the wasabi scene! :-)
@@SimoraCheeks1 He's got the giggles.
@@SimoraCheeks1 yeah I noticed him lol
Is there a scene in the ENTIRE SERIES that beats the shaving scene? Kudos to the writers. Very funny!
The sushi when she eats too much wasabi lol. 🤣
@@stevarino1989 Nah, good one but not even close.
@@SpliffieBee cluck like a chicken?
@@Charmedone9805 Also a good one, but in my opinion can't beat the shaving scene. In the end it all comes down to personal preference, I guess.
What about the one where she stuck in this tight shirt, and can’t get off. And Max has to help her and Niles appears. That one is my favorite scene its more hilarious then this scene 😂😂
obvs an absolutely iconic moment, but Sylvia calling Fran on a random hospital phone because of an emergecy (Mike Douglas disappearing from Channel 4) is one of my very fave bits also 🤣🤣🤣
also the magazines (Super Teen --- Seventeen --- Longetivity) are HILLARIOUS!!
Fran and Lucy are the most superior sitcom queens and no one can change my mind😌
Braydn Fran in my opinion is the 90s Lucille Ball yes total queens though I do like other sitcoms this one and that one was and is still gold classics
@@aprilgosa5779 period.
Let’s face it. The Nanny was pretty much the 90s version of I Love Lucy in some ways. Max/Ricky work in the entertainment industry, Fran/Lucy is always doing something that ends up getting them in trouble while sometimes assisted by a faithful sidekick (Val/Ethel), sometimes Fran/Lucy’s endeavors come back to bite Max/Ricky in their careers, they have guest star appearances, Fran/Lucy has jobs inside the home, Max/Ricky both have accents, Fran/Lucy have crazy moments from being star struck, Fran/Lucy are found doing comical things on their shows, Fran/Lucille were both executive producers behind the scenes, and there were times when both women were found wearing glamorous dresses on the show.
@@kristinbagani2811 this.
@@kristinbagani2811 I knew something was familiar about it, glad I’m not the only one who noticed or thought about it that way. I love both shows to, both had me laughing a lot.
The audience is going crazy, by far the most inspired scene of the show 🤣🤣
It took me a minute to figure it out who is the lady that came to fran in the beginning. It's Monicas and Ross mother 😂
OH MY GOD I WAS TRYING TO FIGURE IT OUT TOO
Judy Geller
I recognized her voice immediately
@@lalalalalalwlla me too 👍
yep and monica and ross father is Barbra's ex husband lol
I would pay ludicrous sums of money to see the bloopers from this scene.
Her entire personality in this scene was completely 100% Lucy, and boy did she nail it. 😂😂😂😂😂
2:54 Fran's "Ooooh" face cracks me up. And what happens after kept me laughing for hours. 😂
"Bucking for a raise?"
The minute Niles said that, I just bursted out with laughter!
I love Nile's cheeky facial expression and grin when he walks in. And then Fran looking like a naughty child who's got caught with her hands in the cookie jar lol. Perfect timing with his line too.
Cracked the shit out of me when she said ‘Well I have no idea’ 😂
My favorite parts, doctor: shave him for surgery, Fran: well, where do you want me to shave- 😲 and Niles: bucking for a raise. LoL🤣
I love Niles LOL
As a kid watching that, I don't think I understood what he meant. But now I do! :)
Fran: You know, I’ll be back a minute. I have a girl that does a bikini 👙 wax. 😆😂
Doctor: Now.
Me: He seemed chill now… well, almost. 😂
That has to be the longest time hearing the audience laughing! Plus, Niles adding to the scene was just too perfect!
"Bucking for a raise?" 😂😂🤣🤣
I don’t get it😂😂 Can someone elaborate?
@@Thermopylae66 'Bucking for a raise' means to try desperately to get an increase on your salary at work.
Trolling butler
Also the other ‘raise’😅
😂😂😂😂😂😂 @@shirropetto6169
The first nurse is Monica and Ross's mother in friends !
She also played Nurse Helen Rosenthal in St. Elsewhere. :)
And I wonderd where I saw her 😁🙈
@@rising_phoenix8159 No, that's actually Christina Pickles. There's definitely a resemblance, though. :)
It's really her, good remark! Good eyes 😁
yes i knew immediately from the voice!
Honestly, The Nanny was totally priceless. The perfect combination of “I Love Lucy” and “The Carol Burnett Show” with a dash of “Laverne and Shirley” and “Soap” thrown in for good measure. Perfect cast, perfect writing, perfect comedic timing, etc., etc. … It’s like a roller coaster ride. Exhilarating and so much fun. Need I say more? Again… Just priceless!!!
~ring ring~
🤨🤔
"MAAAAAA! HOW DID YOU FIND ME HERE?"
Ma, Mike Douglass isn't on channel 4 because they canceled him 22 years ago!
"Would you spring for a new TV Guide?!" 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
This is so funny you could tell the actor who plays Mr. Sheffield is trying not to laugh then Niles tops it by saying ”Bucking for a raise.”
I remember when I first watch this episode for the first time. I couldn't stop laughing, in fact I screamed and thought I'm gonna die. "Bucking for a raise", huh, just was the icing on the cake.
I can't decide what's funnier: the studio audience howling with laughter or Charles Shaughnessy struggling to keep a straight face. I'm gonna go with the latter.
The Nanny was seriously just a modern I Love Lucy, I swear to God.
NokoFace I just wrote a similar comment I totally agree and Mr Sheffield is a great partner for her comedy as Ricky was to Lucy though I do prefer British Sexy men over Spanish now LOL
@April*Cuban
right down to the eyeliner and iconic red lipstick ☺️
CC took her chance!!😂😂
this is such a wonderful, slightly racy, tribute to Lucy. I love it so much. And Niles gets props for waiting just long enough for his line.
Fran Dresher definitely deserved an Emmy for her comedic acting in this scene! This is by far one of the funniest moments on television ever! 😂
You know they only put shave cream on Max’ face to disguise his laughing 😂
Waiting for the audience to stop laughing just so Niles can pull off the one-liner makes the scene, along with everyone trying to not laugh.
The pause for the laughter (likely unintended) made the scene more hysterical to watch.
@jacquimaes5701 it was unintended. Both Fran and Daniel have said in interviews it was them hust waiting on the crowd
@@dwp139 HA even better!
in my opinion this is the funniest scene in the nanny it makes me cry with laughter every single time 😂😂😂
Still one of the funniest moments on TV ... it's right up there with the Gone With Wind parody involving a curtain rod on Carol Burnett .... when she saw her dress "hanging in the window and just had to have it" 😁😁
This shaving cream part was funny, but so was the part earlier when C.C tells the doctor Maxwell is her husband and passionately kisses him when he’s unconscious
I busted out laughing hahaha 🤣🤣🤣
Oh but he wasn't completely out, even under heavy anesthesia he wouldn't want C.C's kisses😆
I think that was the only time she got to kiss him lol
@@Devin3Anthologie he remembered both C.C. kissing him and Fran shaving him because he brings it up to Fran later on in the episode and thought he was dreaming then realizes it really happened 🤣
@@Devin3Anthologie She needs a breath mint.
Niles: Bucking for a raise?
LOOOOOL!
This scene is still laugh-out-loud funny today!! 🤣
Fran was like the 90s version of Lucille Ball lol
This scene with Fran brings back memories of Lucille Ball's shananigans!
One of the BEST scenes EVER!!!!!! 😂
I don’t know HOW but the actor playing Maxwell must had done this a thousand and one times to NOT laugh 😂
Charles Shaungnessy.
Sylvia will find you no matter what 😂🤣
especially in an emergency like Mike Douglas disappearing from Channel 4 🤣🤣🤣
You can hear Charles laughing when Fran started spraying the shaving cream on him.
He knew it'd be funny.
3:40 - 3:59 when people complain about the laugh track , or just straight up tin-foil hat about the fact that the studio audience never existed... this scene right here. Almost 20 seconds of dead air because they had to wait for the audience to settle down, before Daniel could deliver the punchline.
Another notable moment was in Friends, when Brad Pitt cameo-d on the show. When he walked through that door, the studio audience wouldn't settle down for a reported 2 entire minutes. In this episode, luckily it was only less than 20 seconds. But you can't broadcast 2 minutes of people laughing/cheering. The show needs to go own, shows after it need to come on, and commercials in between. And so that's where you use a recorded short duration laugh/cheer.
The inverse is also true, for when they think there should've been a bigger response. Not necessarily to make unfunny look funny or anything, but like when a particular scene took multiple takes, and only on the say 19th take did it work. The audience is obviously not gonna laugh at a joke 19 times the same way. Thus, laugh track.
This scene is hilarious! Fran reminds me so much of Lucile Ball. Fran Drescher is simply great! Love her ❤😂
Classic. I watched this when it originally aired in 1995 and was in my college dorm... Everyone else on the floor was watching it too and was in hysterics
For some reason this reminds me of I Love Lucy, it just seems like something she would do if put in that situation 😆. Oh poor Nanny Fine.
CLASSIC!! Classic scene. This will never not make me laugh til my sides are hurting.
This is one of the funniest scenes ever 😂😂
2:39 I dunno why but the way the doctor said that is totally hilarious 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Speechless beyond words. Bucking for a raise will always be favorite one-liner. 🤣🤣🤣
Probably one of the most iconic scenes from "The Nanny"! 😍👌🏻👑
« Bucking for a rise ? » haha, just pure gem😆
Omg, that series will always be a gem ❤❤❤
"Bucking for a raise"😅😅😅😅
Iconic!!!!
how this clip doesn’t have a million views is beyond me
Funniest moment in the entire series. 🤣 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
A great call back to many of the great scenes in *_I Love Lucy_* ....
Ive seen this so many times and it always makes me laugh, without fail
Same. It never ceases to amaze me that they were able to keep a straight face during all of that.
@@jacquimaes5701 Yes omg
Nanny's face on d ohhhwwwwww 😂😂😂
I'm just jaw drop all day
Bucking for raise - he's still the best.
This is my favorite scene in the show, I'm so glad it got uploaded! XD I wish the part with the kitchen was included, but this is perfect as is ^_^
Charles Shaungnessy sure got the giggles.
The nurse who asks Fran to stay is Christina Pickles who played Helen Rosenthal on St. Elsewhere and who would later play Ross and Monica’s mother Judy Geller on Friends.
Doctor: Are you the wife?
CC: *thinking a moment* YES.
CC positively LEAPT at that opportunity! XD
CC kisses Maxwell's face, and he's like "she needs a breath mint".
True humor...really...I can't stop laugh with Fran
OMG what I would have given to be there live and just lose it laughing with the whole audience.
Seen this so many time, but the first-time at 3:32 to 3:36 Maxwell eyebrows goes up lol, he's trying so hard to be still 😂
imagine his reaction when he found out
And...... following all the comments....Charles Shaughnessy struggling to keep a straight face... In a pandemic such as covid-19..........SO... Wonderful......Old skool laughs..... GREAT 👍
He tried not to laugh.
Ross and Monicas Mom .... fabulous 💋💋💋
What are you doing?!
Well, I have no idea. I mean, the man has a SLIGHT five o'clock shadow, but it's not like he's going to a bar-mitzvah!
Shave him for surgery!
Well, where do you want me to shave hi-OOOOHHHH!!!!
😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂
Poor Charles couldn't stop giggling
He's still kinda awake, not fully under yet. That's why he can still somewhat feel what she's doing.
LMAO at this scene, *especially* the scene where Fran had to shave Max ! ! ! ! ! ! ! 😄😆😂🤣
That said, I wonder if Max actually " out like a light " for that scene ? ! ? ! 🤔

The most crazy funny episode....😂😂😂😂😂
This scene cracked me up so much when I first saw it! 😂😂
ICONIC
The best scene ever !!!!
Excuse me, but Fran is way beyond funnier and great actress than Lucille Ball. She deserves her star and kennedy center honors for sure...
When she took off her mask at 1:45 I was like, "Noo! Covid!" And then I remembered what I was watching.
If this isn’t an I love Lucy moment I don’t know what is!
she actually handling it on the spot..
Just from the voice I could tell that's Judy geller
